What We Watched: Gossip Girl’s 100th Ep
Wednesday, February 1st, 2012Hey Candy Girl!
Believe me when I say you shouldn’t miss Gossip Girl‘s 100th episode tomorrow night at 8 pm on ETC! Here are just some jaw-dropping moments to expect:
5) The opening dance is an homage to Marilyn Monroe’s “Diamond’s are a Girl’s Best Friend.” It’s fun to see how Blake Lively pulls off this bombshell persona, and even more fun to see the GG boys put on their dancing shoes.

4) There are many little things that pay tribute to the classic scenes and lines of the show. You’ll love The Kooks’ rendition of Peter Bjorn and John’s “Young Folks” (the song that opened the pilot episode) as well as a “Not enough!” line at the wedding that made me tear up. Oh, and let’s not forget the beautiful sets and gowns from the wedding. Serena’s maid of honor dress was just divine!
3) Will they or won’t they? That’s the question on everyone’s mind about Louis and Blair’s wedding! But the bigger question is, will Chuck swoop in and take Blair away before it’s too late—or will he set her free for good? An episode is never complete with some Chair drama.

2) The return of Georgina will delight true-blue Gossip Girl fans! The sneakiest of GG characters, trouble must be her middle name.

1) For fans of both the books and the long-running TV show, I know how frustrating it can get to try to figure out who Gossip Girl is. So after making us wait for what seems like forever, the producers have finally decided to reveal his/her true identity!!! Any guesses on who he/she might be?
Feel free to gush or rant below after you’ve seen the ep. XOXO!

What We Enjoy Doing: Playing Games
Tuesday, January 24th, 2012Hi Candy Girls!
Happy Chinese new year!
What did you do over the mini-break? When my entire family gets together, we usually end up playing games such as Chinese mahjong (this can go on till the wee hours of the morning), BINGO (even the younger members of my family love this because you get a chance to win instant cash!), and Rock Band on Wii (I usually sing, but I also enjoy playing the bass guitar).
Over the past few years, we’ve bought and played some of the most engaging games on the planet. My family members are highly competitive, but I’m glad to say no one is extremely pikon. Here are some of our favorites:
1) Guesstures

You could say this is a quick-paced game of charades. The actor has to act out four different words in a fixed amount of time. Once his teammates get to answer one word, the actor has to pick up the card to claim the points. If the card falls into the clapper, the team won’t get it. Sounds tough, but it really is an exciting game!
2) Cranium

Cranium is an all-around game that tests your knowledge and creativity. I’m particularly fond of the Star Performer and Creative Cat cards (where you get to act, hum, sketch, or sculpt), but the Data Head and Word Worm cards produce some of the funniest answers as well (I remember laughing out loud to some words spelled backwards). I believe the makers when they say that Cranium is “outrageous fun for everyone.”
3) Monopoly Deal

Angel blogged about this card game a few months back, but it was only last Christmas when I started playing the game. We’ve spent countless hours playing Monopoly Deal over the Christmas holidays, before New Year came, and also during Chinese New Year’s Eve (is this a premonition that we’ll be playing this all year round?!). Roch even enticed me to buy the Monopoly Deal HK version which includes new cards like Go to Jail (you force another player to skip a turn), Speeding Ticket (two players of your choice say goodbye to one card each) and You Inherit (it lets you steal a card from someone’s hand). Last weekend, we even upped the ante by having an entrance fee for each round. I’m happy to report that I won twice that night.
What are your favorite games? Share them with us and so we can try and play them at the Candy HQ!

Where We Hung Out: Cafe Publico
Monday, January 16th, 2012Hi Candy Girls!
First off, I want to greet you all a belated happy 2012!
To honor the start of a wonderful new beginning, I wanted to share with you something new—an uber-cool spot that serves yummy gelato and snacks called
Cafe Publico!
The place looks like a rustic outdoor cafe found in Havana or some other equally exotic European town, but the difference lies in the details. There’s a water-spouting lion fountain (it tempted me to make a wish and throw in a coin, but I’m sure that’s not allowed!), a big-ass chess set (it reminded me of Harry, Hermione, and Ron from the first HP movie), and a mix of antique-looking tables and decors (simply gorgeous!).
The best part of visiting Cafe Publico is getting to sample the tastiest gelato. I must have tried a gazillion creamy flavors before settling on the Ferrero/Strawberries and Cream combo. Drool! I can’t wait to come back and try the Peanut Butter and Jelly, Lemon Pie, and Cream for the Gods. They even serve coffee and wine (for your parents and older relatives), so you can invite them to come with you and con them (haha!) into treating you to gelato cup or two (prices start from P105-up and they offer take out pints as well!).
Visit Cafe Publico at the 2/L of Greenhills Promenade, Greenhills Shopping Center, San Juan.
Hope to run into there!

What We’re Excited For: New Projects
Friday, December 23rd, 2011Hi Candy Girls!
Guess what I received just two days before Christmas…

The January-February 2012 issue of Disney Princess!!!
If you’re wondering why I’m so excited about this magazine, it’s because this is my newest “baby”! I’ve been meaning to share the good news with you girls, but I wanted to wait until the first issue came out.
But don’t worry, taking on the job of Disney Princess EIC doesn’t mean I’ll be neglecting my Candy Managing Editor duties. It just means I’ll have to manage my time effectively—not such a difficult task considering I did exactly that when I was doing both Candy and W.I.T.C.H. years ago. (Speaking of W.I.T.C.H., do any of you remember that comic book magazine? I must admit I miss Will, Irma, Taranee, Cornelia, and Hay Lin and wonder how they’re doing sometimes!)
If you have any younger sisters, cousins, or friends who are fans of the Disney Princesses, I urge you to get them a copy of the Jan-Feb 2012 issue in time for Christmas! It’s the perfect gift because it has got magical stories, coloring pages, and loads of fun activities for them to enjoy. Plus, they’ll get the chance to get to know more about the different princesses (this month, the spotlight’s on cover girl Rapunzel and Snow White), create wonderful crafts, and even learn how to be well-mannered girls.
What do you think about Disney Princess‘s new look? Sound off below!
A proud mama,
Mimi

What We Wear: Holiday Frocks
Thursday, December 15th, 2011Hi Candy Girls!
I’ve been looking for inspiration on how to dress for all my upcoming Christmas parties, and I think I found three awesome outfits to try with the help of Penshoppe. Take a look and see which one you like best!
Pink Riding Hood
I love how the color of this hoodie pops out and grabs your attention. This is perfect to wear at outdoor parties, where people can instantly spot where you are and you’re (partially) protected if it suddenly rain (haha!).
Rock Star Glam
This denim dress is so versatile! You can rough it up with silver bangles, sexy hair, and sultry lips for a night out with friends or wear it with sneaks and dainty accessories to an afternoon get-together with the family.

On a side note, can I just share how much I love Candy model Sam’s funky shoes?!
Color Coded Cutie
Red is one bold hue people associate with the holidays! I love the red scarf the model is wearing ( I have a thing for scarves!), and I also like the fact that the entire outfit is so versatile. I can imagine ditching the tights and inner shirt and wearing the belted top to the beach! The scarf can then be transformed into a turban or headband.

What are you wearing to parties this season? Be sure to share your looks with us!
