Love At First Slurp

I’m a big ramen fan, which is why when I found out that Ippudo, Japan’s highly acclaimed ramen emporium, was coming to Manila, I got pretty excited. Even more so when I found out that they were giving me a sneak taste of the famous ramen place founded by Japan’s Ramen King Shigemi Kawahara. But before I fill you in on my Ippudo experience, you must know that I’m no food critic or official foodie. I basically discern food as your basic food lover–someone who knows how to appreciate good food, at least I think so!

The title basically sums up my feelings about the ramen at Ippudo. It really was love at first slurp and I almost couldn’t stop eating until I realized that I had to take a photo and document my delicious bowl. I got the Akamaru Shinaji which is served in a big red bowl with Ippudo’s original tonkotsu broth enhanced with special blended miso paste and fragrant garlic oil. It’s also served with thin noodles, pork belly, kikurage, and spring onions. It’s described as a refined, modern-style ramen and this is how it looks like! Btw I chose the hard noodles option.

They also serve two other ramen dishes, Shiromaru Classic and Karaka-men. Also, lots of really yummy side dishes to complement their ramen like Hakata-Style Gyoza, Dashimaki Tamago, Agadeshi Tofu, and more. My favorite is their pork buns!

Ippudo’s flagship store officially opens tiday at the 3rd level of the Mega Fashion Hall of SM Megamall! I highly recommend for you to go check it out ;)

’till next time!

I would definitely be the first to admit that I’ve developed quite the obsession with anything “brow-related” in the past year or so.  Not exactly sure what started it but I’m pretty sure that writing and researching for certain beauty stories have definitely contributed to it.

I’ve luckily never really had any problems with my brows growing up. I’ve always had pretty average eyebrows that didn’t really need to be shaped—just the regular cleaning which I learned to do on my own thanks to my army of girl cousins. But, this fact never stopped me from wanting to try all sorts of brow-products, mainly to achieve thicker and bolder brows, and not just because it’s whats hot right now.

So, when I was invited to try out The Brow Studio at Megamall (the first Filipino specialty salon to focus on eyebrows), I definitely did not hesitate one bit!

When I first got to the place, I was already greeted with really cute and relaxing interiors. The staff were very accommodating and friendly as well. Although I’ve never actually done anything to my brows except for tweezing, I was actually not so scared to try what the salon had to offer, which is a mix of  threading, tweezing, and cutting for truly clean and defined brows.

As soon as I was lying down comfortably on the purple grooming bed, a brow designer attended to me and asked what I wanted. I simply requested for a cleaning since I actually wanted to thicken my eyebrows. Using a Brow RX, she quickly drew my current brows and explained what she needed to do to make sure they were symmetrically shaped and I found this super cool (see how it looks like in my photo below). I was pleasantly surprised that the actual threading process was actually not so painful and really tolerable. Plus, Vina, my brow designer, was very attentive to my reactions. After about 15 minutes I was already done so I was able to squeeze in their eyelash perming service which only takes an hour.

After everything, I would honestly say I would come back again for multiple reasons. 1) Their services are very, very affordable especially in comparison to other brow-specialty salons. 2) They offer multiple other services that are not just brow-related and they sell a brow vitamin product. 3) Their technicians pay attention to your needs and are very meticulous with what they do. 4) They have 9 branches all over Manila so it won’t be hard to keep going back. 5) My brows now look better than ever!

‘Till next time!

This year, we wanted to try something new with the fashion videos on the site. That’s why for prom season, we came up with “lookbook-style” videos that didn’t only show off the cutest looks but could also make you extra giddy and maybe even feel a little kilig. Aslo, these videos are actually a first for me because we got to shoot it on location—at the Angelfields Farm in Tagaytay. Felt truly lucky to have such a pretty background for this first! Angelfields is such a serene, peaceful, and super picturesque place filled with lots of lush greens, making it the perfect location for our theme. Not only that, this place is actually perfect to go to for a romantic lunch with your date or even a weekend getaway with your family. And, speaking of prom, this farm would also make the such a sweet prom backdrop or even your dream debut venue! To show you just what I’m talking about, check out the behind-the-scenes photos of our shoot and see it all for yourself.

For more information on the place, be sure to check out Angelfields’ website.

That’s it for now, hope you’re all having a great week!

It’s extra hard not to get sad, discouraged, and even negative during times like these, especially with constant bad news circulating. Even after helping out with relief operations and giving back with donations, it’s definitely still normal to feel helpless and even down right depressed at the end of the day.

Since I know exactly where you’re coming from and what you could be feeling, I’m going to share with you my little secret (which actually isn’t much of a secret) to cheering myself up on those bad days or downward slumps—it all lies in my favorite Pinterest board filled with words of encouragement a.k.a. my Wise Words board. Every time I take a break or have nothing to do, I make it a point to scroll through Pinterest to find photos with text or typography with encouraging quotes and inspiring messages because it really does wonders! So, when I’m feeling pretty bad, I just visit my own board filled with tons of positivity and at least for an hour or a day, my spirits actually get lifted! This is mainly because words, the right ones, can really go a loooong way. That’s how this board of mine works, it uses the right words to spread a dose of hope and positivity, not only for me but hopefully for anyone else that comes across it.

Whether you’re feeling down or looking for a glimmer of hope, why don’t you check it out? I promise it won’t hurt and you won’t waste your time! It might even get you to start your own board filled with sunshine and positivity. Here’s a few examples and some of my favorites:

De-stressed Tresses

Every time my hair gets frizzy, I would always think that it’s my hair’s way of saying it’s stressed—probably because of the weather or because I’m not giving it enough TLC. Either way, frizz is something I definitely don’t like and it’s literally a daily battle of finding out how to get rid of it so that I can look somehow presentable. Which is why I was all giddy and excited to find out that I would get to try L’Oreal Professionnel’s Steam Care service which is basically a Keratin Steam Care treatment using their latest Steampod technology.

Wondering what this means and what it does? Basically, the treatment gives an anti-frizz smoothing effect that can last up to 3 days if used for normal to slightly sensitive hair. When used continuously , it will result to long-lasting hair reconstruction and deep nourishment.

Here’s the process of my treatment:

After drying my hair, the stylist first sectioned my hair. She then sprayed the X-Tenso Moisturist  treatment to the sections and strands.

Using this steampod straightener, the stylist was able to let the treatment sink into the strands without damaging my hair. It was pretty quick too!

Here’s how my hair looked as it was being straightened.

Afterwards, they evenly applied this mask all over my hair for protection and for added shine and smoothness.

This was the finished result. My hair become a lot straighter, smoother, and felt lighter!

The verdict?

It’s been a full week since I had this treatment and I’ve got to say, I’m pretty happy with it—my hair is not as straight but noticeably smoother and frizz-free! Find out more about this treatment by checking out
