What We’re Excited For: Summer Solstice 2013

I’m a big music fan in general. I basically like artists from all sorts of music genres so when I heard that there was an upcoming music festival here in the Philippines, I instantly got excited even before knowing who the acts were. I guess it stems from the fact that I would totally kill to attend famous music festivals like Coachella, Laneway, Ultra Music Fest, Tomorrowland, and tons more!

The Closeup Summer Solstice music festival is already tomorrow and I’m excited to all the acts, especially Dj’s Afrojack and Cedric Gervais! Since the festival will last for 12 hours, planning the perfect cute but functional outfit can be a bit tricky, which is why I need your help! Here are two looks I’m choosing from:

What outfit do you think I should wear?

Outfit #1: Cropped top, skater skirt, snapback, backpack, and sneakers

Outfit #2: Button down top, high-waist shorts, fedora, bucket bag, and booties

Would really love your help so just comment with what outfit you think would be the perfect one!

Are you going to the festival? What are you wearing? Share it with me!

‘Till next time!

I’ve always been a sucker for happy endings. Despite my more practical and realistic view of life, I honestly believe that there is a happily ever after for everyone, it all lies in how you see things! This romantic and cheesy side of me is the reason why I’m the token “crying lady” at weddings. I just can’t help but tear a little when the groom smiles as the bride enters, while the couple reads their vows, when they have their first kiss as a married couple, and the list goes on!

Being the 2nd to the youngest of about 16 cousins, I’ve attended quite a lot of weddings in the past years. The most recent wedding I attended was that of two people really close to my heart. I’ve known the couple for over 7 years and it was such a pleasure seeing their relationship grow. Also, it was pretty fun being able to help with little things for their wedding because, well, I just find weddings so romantic and fun! Seeing everything they planned unfold into one of the most beautiful weddings I’ve ever been to was really heartwarming. The wedding was exactly like the couple—fun, vibrant, and effortless!

The reception was even more breathtaking! It was as if they grabbed everything adorable and cute from Pinterest and made it happen! In social media terms, everything was so pretty, I couldn’t decide what to post on Instagram (oh what problems I have haha). They made a simple farm look like it came right out of a magazine, but not at all overdone. Since I don’t think I can describe everything, here are a few photos

The cool fan they gave us! The design was so cute.

Colorful plants hanging from this cool tree with photos of the couples in funky frames.

These colored lanterns looked gorgeous in the day and at night.

The photo wall had cool DIY paper flowers.

The photo booth had fun and very hipster props for my friends and I to play with!

All in all, the wedding was gorgeous and I had a blast. In a weird way, it kinda made me think of what cool stuff to do for my wedding a million years from now. What would your dream wedding be like? Share it with me by posting a comment.

‘Till next time!

When it comes to trying out something for the first time, I’m almost always excited, happy, anxious, and just a little nervous and I think most people have felt the same way at least once. In recent weeks I’ve been blessed enough to be able to do and try things for the very first time. Some of them seemed a little scary at first but I’m glad I never said no, not once. In fact, these firsts of mine have become my happy thoughts on not so good days. Before I blab on too much, here’s the reason I’ve been quite giddy lately…

photo 1

I was able to meet both Troian Bellisario and Partick Adams thanks to this oh-so-awesome job. The cherries on top of it all? I was able to take these photos with them and even work with one of them. How cool is that?

I got to style my very first fashion editorial! It was such a great experience and I can’t wait to share more of it! For now, just keep logging on to Candy to see what I’m talking about.

With the March issue out, I was able to see and feel my very first article on the magazine with Macy and Patty! It’s a definite bonus that I had loads of fun looking for really cool fashion and beauty sites. Want to see more of the web special? Make sure to grab a copy (forgive my shameless plugs hehe).

Speaking of Macy and Patty, here we are at the Candy Staff shoot—my first ever since I joined the team back in July of last year! It was super fun getting all dolled up with my favorite girls.

Lastly, I had the pleasure of contributing to one of the sites I constantly visit. What I liked about it was that I was able to write about something I’ve really been into lately—sneakers!

Those five are definitely on top of my list of happy thoughts lately and they keep me thinking positive. If you’re not having a good day, week, or month, try listing down all the things that make you happy and think about what you wanna do for the first time and go for it! I promise you, a smile will magically appear on your face.

What We’re Pondering On: A New Hairstyle

This will most likely sound really superficial of me but every so often I get this sudden urge to do something with my hair. Although, the most drastic things I’ve ever really done with it is cut 10 inches of it and dye it dark brown—drastic for me that is! I guess you can say this is me just being maarte but I can’t seem to pick how exactly to change up my current (boring) hairstyle which I can sum up in a phrase: long and coarse with 4 inches of my black roots showing.

Anyways, I should get to the point already….basically, I need help picking what to do with my current long hair! I’m definitely due for a trim but somehow I want to do something more. So that you could see exactly what I’m dealing with, this is a recent photo of myself (thanks Macy):

And with that, here are the different hairstyles I keep going back to and I just can’t seem to pick one.

Ombre (light brown and not blonde)

Dyeing it dark chocolate brown so my black hair can fade into it better

Perming it for loose waves

Cutting some bangs which I haven’t done in so many years

Chopping off lots of layers (which is most daring of all, for me that is)

So there goes my dilemma…what to do, what to do? I’m still stumped, which is why I would love it greatly if you could give me your two cents on what I should do! Feel free to dish out whatever advice you can give me, I’m ready for all your hair tips and I would appreciate every single one. So here goes nothing….HELP!

xoxo,
Erin

What We Played With: Pretty Makeup

Ever since I started to learn how to put on makeup (thanks to my oh-so-helpful and pretty cousins), I’ve been slowly but surely getting interested in the world of beauty…products. From all the cute makeup products to informative and pretty beauty blogs to fun hair tutorials, I’ve definitely been a sucker for anything that can help a girl look her best.

Which is why I was definitely excited to attend the BYS Spring and Summer collection launch because I would be able to feed my hunger for everything beauty! My favorite part of the event? We were able to play around with the entire collection first hand! We even had our own little makeup stations for us to apply and tinker around with all the lipsticks, eyeshadows, bronzers, and many more.

Here’s a few photos to sum up this fun-filled, makeup day!
