When I was in grade school, missionaries from our sister school in Paris were teaching basic French after school. I begged my mom to let me attend the classes. I don’t remember how long they ran for, but I do remember learning how to sing Happy Birthday (Bon Anniversaire!) and Brother John (Frere Jacques, frere jacques, dormez-vous?). In college, I took a few units of French as my foreign language. I’m not fluent at all, haha, but I am still drawn to anything French.

I first heard of Ines de la Fressange when I saw people posting about her book Parisian Chic. Her daughter modeled some of the looks in the book (she’s totally chic!) that talked about French style. I eventually searched for more features on her and loved her philosophy on beauty and style.

I think what draws me to Parisian style is their simplicity.  You own a few basic pieces: a black dress, an oxford shirt, chinos, a Breton top, a midi skirt, ballet flats, basic pumps, canvas sneakers. And you just mix and match them to fit the occasion! Throwing on a dress with a flattering silhouette—tailored so you don’t look sloppy, cinched at the waist to show your femininity, mid-length so you don’t reveal too much—makes dressing up so effortless. One day, my closet will reflect just that. And lucky us, we get to stock up on these pieces from the Ines de la Fressange x Uniqlo collaboration to get started. You can check the collection out at the stores (the branch at the Mega Fashion Hall has the complete collection!) now.

Check out their website to find a branch near you.

by: kaye, 2014-10-26

Fun Fact: Halloween is my favorite not-holiday. Every year, my sisters and I veg out on the couch with a gratuitous amount of candy and junk food, and a queue of classic spooky-but-not-scary...
