But of course, we live in the real world and we can’t actually imagine The One and pull them out of thin air like magic. Luckily, we also live in a world where movies turn our dreams into reality. Calvin (Paul Dano) is a novelist who had a breakthrough bestseller novel in his late teens. He sees a therapist to figure out how to get over his writer’s block. Eventually, he dreams up Ruby Sparks. “The more he writes about her, the realer she becomes to him,” shares Zoe Kazan (who plays Ruby and wrote the screenplay). Miracle?
