As soon as Raoul started singing these lines from “All I Ask of You” to Christine, tears started streaming down my face. It wasn’t a particularly sad or depressing scene, but since I had been really stressed out the last couple of days, I couldn’t help but be touched by these words. I felt as if Raoul’s reassuring lines had been written specifically for me.

And that is the power of a good musical. More than the elaborate sets, the intricately designed costumes, the amazing special effects, and the uber-talented cast (all of which The Phantom of the Opera score an A+ in!), a good musical has songs with beautifully written lyrics that touch the heart and soul.
