The Doctor Is In

Jim Parsons won an Emmy! After eons (okay, three years) of playing Dr. Sheldon Cooper on Big Bang Theory, he finally brought home an Emmy! And made an acceptance speech in a suit Barney Stinson will be proud of! There is a God! I can’t stop using exclamation points!
Everything Sheldon does cracks me up (I swear, even the the way he blinks is funny!), but here are my favorite Sheldon quotes:
1. “Someone call the Oxford English Dictionary. The definition of ‘plenty’ has been changed to ‘two’.”
2. “There’s always the possibility that alcohol and poor judgment on her part might lead to a nice romantic evening.”
3. “I’m sorry, I don’t understand what social situation this is. Could you give me some guidance in how to proceed?”
4 “There’s an economic concept known as a positioning good, in which an object only has value to those who don’t have it. It was coined in 1976 by economist Fred Hirsch to replace the more colloquial but less precise term ‘neener-neener’.”
5. “It’s very simple. Scissors cuts paper. Paper covers rock. Rock crushes lizard. Lizard poisons Spock. Spock smashes scissors. Scissors decapitates lizard. Lizard eats paper. Paper disproves Spock. Spock vaporizes rock. And as it always has, rock crushes scissors. Rock, paper, scissors, lizard, Spock!”
6. “Captain Hook’s hand was eaten by a crocodile, not an alligator. If you’re going to insult me, at least get your facts straight.”
7. “Was that sarcasm? …Was THAT sarcasm?”
Of course, Sheldon will argue that this list does not in any way paint a clear portrait of who he is, and that these scattered selections are mere fragments of the genius that makes up his entire being. He will also tell me that I should have written these quotes in chronological order, or in order of which one I found the funniest, or in any sort of specific order that doesn’t suggest haphazard, thoroughly unscientific copy-pasting off IMDb. He will tell me that an Emmy is no reason for bad punctuation.
And if/when I take offense, he will tell me to go home to my mee-maw. Bazinga.

No Ordinary Wall
Friday, August 27th, 2010Hi Candy Girls!
I was contemplating on making a lomo heart for the white wall beside my bed, but when I saw this sticker design on Nu Dekor‘s website, I instantly fell in love!!!

In a span of two days, I asked my friends what they thought (they all adored it!), inquired about the price (P950—not bad!), and bought the sticker set at a nearby construction depot store. That same night, I excitedly whipped out these sticker sheets, and thought of how I’d lay them out.
I decided to start with the branches, alternate the pink and dark hued flowers, and leave a space for the lovebirds (I made them kiss to up the sweetness level). See how I transformed this blank wall into the cutest thing ever:

Here are before and after shots of my room. Don’t you think it looks extra kawaii now? (Oh, excuse the messy bed!)

If you’re thinking of ways to instantly brighten up your room, consider going through the Nu Dekor website. You just might find a design that matches your unique spirit!
Have a great long weekend everyone,
Mimi

The Real Life Ironman
Thursday, August 26th, 2010When you hear the word “Ironman,” I bet the first thing that comes to your mind is the comic book superhero or the rich, iron clad guy played by Robert Downey Jr. in the Ironman movie. That character is fictional of course—but did you know that there are real life Ironmen and Ironwomen all around us?
I had the privilege to hang out with these cool guys and gals at the Cobra Ironman 70.3 Philippines event held at the Camsur Watersports Complex last weekend. The Ironman triathlon is a prestigious event held in different parts of the world. In the Camsur race, participants must complete a 1.9 km swim, a 90-km bike, and a 21-km run within a time limit of 8 hours. (You can also do it as part of a relay team with one person doing different legs of the race.) Can you imagine that?! The athletes did all these things with the mighty Mt. Isarog in the background.
Though I didn’t join the race, I had a blast supporting my friends who participated and spotting celebrities! I was thrilled when I got up close and personal with actors-turned-athletes Piolo Pascual and Drew Arellano.
Who knows? Someday, you might just see me sporting the Ironman suit as well—a triathlon suit, that is!

On My Way to Being Shredded
Wednesday, August 25th, 2010For the past few months, I’ve been feeling a little weird. I feel bloated all the time, I feel weak, and there are times I’m lazy to do strenuous activities. I was out of shape. I would eat fast food for lunch every day and would always have an excuse to eat junk at home while watching TV. After stepping on to the weighing scale last week, I know I had to do something.
The Candy team and I discovered the 30 Day Shred by Jillian Michaels. She was one of the trainers from the reality show, The Biggest Loser. It’s a combination of cardio and weights exercise that you have to do for 30 minutes a day. It is designed in 3 levels to be done for 30 days. It assures positive results and changes if you follow the routine properly, do it every single day, and maintain a well balanced diet.
I’m just on my third day but I can already feel the difference in my stamina. The first day was a pain! My limbs were hurting and my whole body was sore. I couldn’t even walk straight and walk down the stairs without holding the railings. My body just needs to get used to the pressure and adjust to the routine and I’m good to go. I’m just hoping I could do it ’til Day 30. It’s time to watch what I eat and exercise more. Here’s to making myself look better and making feel good about myself. I’ll give you an update for sure. Good luck to me!:D
Trying to Get Fit,
Roch <3

Who do you run to when life gets you down?
Tuesday, August 24th, 2010Our former intern/present contributor/K-Pop go-to girl Reese is one of the most talented young girls I know (and I’m not just saying this because she’s our former intern/present contributor/K-Pop go-to girl). She’s a great writer, a quirky dresser, a funny fashion blogger, and as I recently discovered, a fantastic musician. Watch this video for proof:
If you liked what you heard (and I’m sure you did!), Reese and her friend Vica are launching their EP next Friday, September 3, 7pm at Club Dredd, Eastwood—and you’re welcome to drop by to witness the unveiling of their musical masterpiece. You can also visit their Facebook page and YouTube channel for updates.
Happy listening!
Big hugs,
Marla
