Mia Loves Red Mango Waffles
Monday, July 19th, 2010By now you must have noticed how I regularly obsess about one dish or another, and how I always have food on the brain. Well, today I’d like you to meet the breakfast food I’ve been eating at all times of the day. Lately, it’s my favorite snack. I know this because I’m always finding excuses to bring my dogs to the nearby mall, the very same mall that has a Red Mango. Which reminds me, it’s been a long time since my dogs have gone on a joyride, and if that joyride happens to involve a quick snack, then so be it. Where there’s a will, there’s a way, I say

Mia Loves Impromptu Dates
Monday, July 12th, 2010Hi, Candy Girls!
I meant to post a long entry today about a recent trip I took, but I had a lot of work deadlines today that just couldn’t be ignored (I know you can totally relate to that! Hope school’s going great for you this month and that you’re still finding time to chill despite the workload!).
Have had work on the brain more than usual lately, and I haven’t really been sleeping much. So I was totally thrilled when just ten minutes ago, my guy called to say he’s almost at Candy HQ to pick me up and take me out on a movie date
I can so use a break right now, have you ever felt that? Here’s to impromptu dates and breaks just when you need them. Drop me a line here and tell me about your favorite breaks and dates out of nowhere
Lots of Love,
Mia

Superhero Wannabes
Friday, July 9th, 2010Hi, guys!
Last week, Mimi and I got a chance to feel like superheroes for a day at the Zoom TreeTop Adventure at Circulo Verde—the first motorized zipline in the world!

Our mission: To climb up a tower 100 feet high and fly a length of 200 meters!

Here we are on top of the tower waiting for our turn to “fly.” There’s a nice view of the Ortigas skyline from here.

Here we are about to take off on the Superman ride. It only lasted about two minutes but, wow, what an adrenaline rush!

Next up: The Silver Surfer, where you stand on a metal bar and “surf” through the air. It was a bit scarier than the Superman ’cause I thought I was going to ram straight through that tree!
So if you want to feel the thrill of these rides right here in the metro, be sure to drop by Zoom at Circulo Verde, 70 Calle Industria St, Bgy Bagumbayan, Quezon City. The Superman is P400 and the Silver Surfer is P300. Plus, they have two more rides coming up (the Parachute ride and the Aero Musical ride) so be sure to watch out for those. Don’t worry, they’re all perfectly safe! (They’re the same group who operates the TreeTop Adventure in Subic too. Log on to www.treetopadventuresubic.com for more info.)
Zippin’ and zoomin’,

Easily Excited
Thursday, July 8th, 2010Here at the Candy HQ, we seriously get excited over the smallest things—sightings of Zac’s abs vacationing in Hawaii (lucky V!), cute but useful pasalubong from an editor who just came from abroad (thanks, Steph!), and four sets of earrings that cost less than P240 (Forever 21 is da bomb!!!).
This week, my mind almost exploded with all these random news.
1) Flipped, one of my favorite coming-of-age books, has been turned into a movie which will be shown this October. Even better, the guy who directed it also shot one of my favorite movies (The Princess Bride, another book turned film). Double yay!

2) Zoom Tree Top Adventure just opened in Circulo Verde (Calle Industria, Brgy. Bagumbayan, QC) where you can pretend to be Supergirl! I’ll let Angel share the all the deets in her blog tomorrow. ![]()

3) Sally Hansen invented an Insta-Dry Fast Dry Nail Polish that promises to deliver glossy, fast-drying color in just one coat. I’ve tried the Blue Streak and Blush Rush, and in 60 seconds, the polish was dry on my tips and toes.

4) “California Gurl” Katy Perry is releasing her second album next month! If her new anthem is a taste of what’s to come, I’m sure all her other tracks from Teenage Dream will be equally delightful. (Hopefully not too naughty though.)

5) I’m currently obsessed with all things pomegranate, so I’ve asked some loved ones vacationing abroad to get me the EOS lip balm and Dove body mist. I can’t wait to get these goodies when they come home, but I was ecstatic when I found out that a PX store in Greenhills carries all the Dove scents. Woohoo! No need to travel to the States to get these bottles next time.

6) Gossip Girl just started filming its third season in Paris. Although the season finale sucked, I’m hoping guest star Katie Cassidy (from Melrose Place—RIP!) will breathe new life into the show’s blah storylines. Her past characters have always been so bad-ass, I’m sure her GG persona will give Blair a run for her money.

7) Nine days to go and my family will be reunited with my brother and sister living in Oz!!! I’m counting down the days and thinking of what I can make them do (more like eat, hehe!) while they’re here.

What has made you excited this week?
Mimi

Spending vs Saving
Wednesday, July 7th, 2010This July, we’re talking about luxe for less, cheap and chic shops, stretching your allowance, and other bargain tips in the magazine. Although I won’t deny it, I haven’t exactly been practicing what I preach (with the sales here and there—which come to think of it still count as bargains, right?) lately.
But here’s one bargain tip I’d love to share with you gals. Lately, I’ve been finding a lot of things in my parents’ closets that I’ve been using.

This pair of brown pumps used to look so tacky to me as a kid. Hahaha. Years later, I unearthed it from a dusty shoebox and realized it goes with most of my clothes! And I love the tiny heel because I can wear it and not feel like my toes died. It also matches one of my fave shoulder bags (which I also snagged from my mom’s closet).

I also found a set of 7 bangles in one of my mom’s shoeboxes (not really sure what they were doing there). I didn’t even need to have them cleaned. They looked new! Then, these watches are my dad’s. I’m starting to like oversized watches so I borrow them whenever my dad’s not using them. I especially like the one with brown straps (had to have it cleaned because it wasn’t winding properly).
So before you think of splurging your week’s allowance on a skirt you’ll probably wear once (it’s happened before, admit it), why not take a peek at your mom’s or dad’s closet? You never know what treasure might be waiting to be discovered.
Trying my best to save,
Macy :macy:
