A Quick Hello
Tuesday, June 22nd, 2010Hi, Candy Girls!
I’m hard at work researching, scouting for photos, and deciphering really bad guy handwriting for your Candy Cuties pages at the moment—your all-time favorites will be there, plus several pleasant surprises—but I just thought I’d drop you a quick, efficient note to tell you three things:
a) …that I hope you’re having a great school year so far! Whatever your resolutions—to listen better, speak up more, be more active in organizations, or gain new friends—I hope you’re sticking to them. I hope you’re excited for all the fun stuff you’ll be learning, both inside and outside the classroom. And I hope you tell yourself (with enough passion to believe it) that this will be your best school year EVER!
b) …that I’d like to greet your dads a belated Happy Father’s Day! Whether you’ve got a serious, whip-smart one; a jolly, endearing one; or a wise, sensitive one (I think mine is a wonderful combination of all three types), I hope you give him a big bear hug as often as you can. I hope you laugh at his jokes (even when they’re not funny), and I hope you listen to his stories about his childhood (even when you’ve heard them a billion times), and I hope you know how incredibly lucky you are to have a man in your life who will always love you and never break your heart.
c) …that you should watch Toy Story 3! Haha, I know, I know, so random, but this is one of the best animated movies I’ve seen in a very long time, and I just thought I should make sure everyone gets to experience it. This movie will have you laughing for more than hour, then sobbing beneath your 3D glasses for about the last 15 minutes. It’s hilarious and heartwarming at the same time, and you won’t regret paying a bit more than usual for the 3D price. Go watch it, please! And bring lots of popcorn and tissue!
Big hugs,
Marla

Worth Every Cent
Friday, June 18th, 2010Hi Candy Girls!
I’ve been on a spending streak recently, but I don’t feel so guilty about it because all my purchases have been great deals.
If you’ve got P300 to spare, why don’t you try buying a pair of Trüsole sandals at SM? I couldn’t resist getting the same design in two different shades because they looked so pretty and comfy!

If you’ve got P400 to spare, why not try the rich, chocolate fondue at Chocolate Fire (PDCP Building, Rufino cor. Leviste St., Salcedo Village, Makati)? To be honest, I only spent P100 for a taste of the milk and dark chocolate fondue because I split it with three other friends. The strawberries dipped in dark chocolate were so good!

If you’ve got P1000 to spare, head out to Accessorize and check out their bags on sale! They’re waiting for their new stocks to arrive, that’s why most of the bag tags are marked with 1/2 off stickers. Hooray! I’m lovin’ this chocolate brown bag with zipper details.

Speaking of so-worth-it purchases, Twilight fans can get a copy of the Eclipse Special for only P150. It’s finally out in the newsstands!

Any good buys lately? Why don’t you share your fab purchases with us? ![]()

Bonding in Bohol
Thursday, June 17th, 2010The Visayan island of Bohol is famous for its Chocolate Hills, tarsiers, and beautiful beaches. I’m glad I got to see a different side of the island on my trip there last summer.
To see the tarsiers, tourists normally go to an area near the Loboc river, where they can closely observe and sometimes even pet the small creatures. But all this stress is bad for tarsiers, making them have a shorter lifespan. So instead of going there, my family went to the Tarsier Sanctuary in Corella to see them in their natural habitat.

I never thought I’d see the day my whole family would go hiking together (even if it was for less than an hour)! We saw a mother and baby tarsier sound asleep.

My sister Liz does her best tarsier imitation. Haha!

I’d heard a lot about the great food in Bohol Bee Farm so I was really excited to go there. I enjoyed the spicy flower salad, and of course, the halo-halo. Yum!

Another highlight of the trip was seeing the dolphins. We were so happy to watch them swimming and jumping by our boat. I wanted to jump in and swim with them but the boatmen warned me that there might be sharks around. They’re the natural enemies of dolphins. Yikes!

After dolphin watching, we went snorkeling in the fish sanctuary near Pamilacan island. That’s me feeding the fish! Can you find Nemo in the second photo?

For most of the trip, we just stayed at our resort, The Peacock Garden. They don’t have a beach, but there’s an infinity pool and an awesome view of the sea—it’s the perfect place to relax and meditate!

The best part of the trip was simply being able to bond with my family and Roland (our certified photographer!).
What trips did you go on last summer? Hope you had a blast!

Macy Loves Nail Polish!
Thursday, June 10th, 2010I started out as a young girl painting my nails pink and red with Tinkerbell peel-off polish. I’d paint my nails pink in the morning and end up with red tips by the time I go to bed.
I was always curious looking at my mom’s nail polish in the fridge. I used to think you could peel off all kinds of polish. I learned the hard way when my mom’s polish would not come off no matter how much I rubbed! Haha!
Fast forward to today, I have collected a small amount of polish—some I bought, some were given to me (thanks, Mia for my Revlon bottles and Steph for my newest one from The Face Shop). I have them stashed in an old lunch box with my mani-pedi paraphernalia (I can clean my own nails!). Here are some of my bottles:
I have yet to try Revlon’s Silver Screen and the bright, bright orange from Etude House.
About a week ago, Mia and I got to visit this new nail spa Beauty & Butter. It was not your usual nail spa—the walls were bold and bright with color, there were LCD screens playing Hannah Montana, there was an iPad you could use (!!!), and they had an artist who could do nail art (you can get your nails done in different Twilight covers!). Too bad we had to rush to Eastwood for the Candymag.com Correspondents go-see so we weren’t able to try it out.
You can also buy products from their line: they have polish (they only use their own brand at the store!), soap (smells like butter!), perfume, face creams, and more!
If you’re interested, you should head over to Beauty & Butter at the 5F of Megamall’s The Atrium. They also have branches in SM Mall of Asia and SM San Lazaro.

4 Things I Love
Wednesday, June 9th, 2010Hi, Candy Girls!
I’m Steph and I’m your Associate Art Director. My job is to make Candy‘s pages look pretty and fun…I hope I’m succeeding! Since this is my first blog post, I’d like to introduce myself by sharing some things I love with you.
1. Lipbalm
Everyone who knows me well knows this already. I can’t live without lipbalm. I especially love collecting the ones with cute packaging like this one. I got this from my friend Abby.
Hello Kitty + Lipbalm = I need to have it.
2. Young Adult Books
I love reading and my favorite books are young adult novels. Some of my favorite authors are Judy Blume and Melissa Dela Cruz (of the Blue Bloods novels fame).
3. Gadgets
My favorite gadget would be the Samsung Corby Pro. It keeps me connected through wifi, and I can access Twitter or Facebook almost anytime.
4. TV Shows
I’ve been watching too many shows lately that’s why I don’t get enough sleep! My current favorites are Glee, Dexter, Gossip Girl, American Idol, and of course, The Vampire Diaries! Who doesn’t love Stefan and Damon?
So what are YOUR favorites? Share them with me!
Steph :star:
