Mia Loves Mickey
Monday, June 28th, 2010
Every week, I try my best to post an entry every Candy Girl can relate to. But this week I can’t help but blog about something a little self-centered. As most of you know, I’m crazy about my dog Mickey (a.k.a. Mick or Mickeyangelo). And today I can’t help but worry about him.
We went to the vet a couple of weeks ago, and his doctor found that his eyes aren’t in the best shape. In fact, if things get much worse, Mickey could get glaucoma later on. Doggie Momma that I am, I know I can be a bit melodramatic when it comes to my fur kid. But I couldn’t help but tear up at the thought that my Tzu puppy could possibly go blind. It kills me when I think of how much he loves to look out the car window, or go exploring when we head out.
So I became a total zealot over the eyedrop regimen the vet prescribed. I’d forget to take my own vitamins, but God forbid I’d forget his eyedrops. And now, at the end of the period the vet specified, I’m itching to go back for Mick’s follow-up appointment and hear whether the drops worked. But I had no ride after work today. And the Candy team has a work event tomorrow night, so it looks like I’ll have to wait till Wednesday to get the verdict. Am still praying and hoping it all works out…

This is Mick with his current fave toy, Mr. Carrot (like in the flick Bolt).

Mick loves hitting Coffee Bean because the staff lets him stay in the airconditioned area. That’s my dad beside him (yeah, he loves camo, hehe).

7 Questions for Eclipse fans
Monday, June 28th, 2010While I do enjoy shrieking over the shirtless hotness overload in the Twilight movies, I don’t think it would be fair to all you Twilight fans to call myself a Twi-hard. After all, I only read the first book, constantly mistake Rosalie for Victoria (and vice versa), keep forgetting the names of Bella’s friends, and probably only know as much about the series as this Lucy Knisley comic strip right here:
So before I watch the Eclipse premiere with the Candy team tomorrow night, I have more than a few questions—some hypothetical, some stupid (because I might have been too busy ogling Taylor Lautner and not paying enough attention to the movies), and some valid—all of which, when answered, might be able to shed light on my hopeless confusion.
1. My new crush Xavier Samuel plays Riley in this movie, and I read in an interview that he was literally given just one sentence in the book. What exactly was written about him, and how will they stretch that for the movie?
2. When Jacob transforms into a wolf, where do his clothes go?
3. On a related note, when he goes back to human form, do those shorts and tank tops automatically appear on his body?
4. That tattoo on Jacob’s arm—what’s the story behind it? Do the wolf boys have an official tattoo artist, or is that like a DIY thing?
5. Please explain to me again why Edward sparkles. Did Stephenie Meyer ever delve into that in the books; is there some sort of scientific reaction that takes place when his skin comes into contact with direct sunlight? I’m not being sarcastic; I’m just curious.
6. Why does Emmett like Rosalie? She seems like the type who’d be a moody, selfish, super high-maintenance girlfriend. Does she have any redeeming qualities?
7. And finally, what is the deal with Bella’s indecision?! Is she really torn between Edward and Jacob, or does she know deep down who she loves but just wants to keep both boys around for fun? Did Jacob ever offer her some sort of ultimatum—that they’re either a couple or nothing at all, no showbiz just-friends middle ground?
So excited to see Riley and Seth on the big screen! Happy Monday!
Big hugs,
Marla

Pass the Message
Friday, June 25th, 2010Hi Candy Girls!
One of the things I loved most about going to school was getting to hang out with my friends while learning new things in the classroom (I’m a geek that way). There were admittedly some times when things got so boring (blame the dull topics or snooze-inducing teachers) that I ended up writing a quick message or two (okay, I wrote A LOT of silly/kilig/funny/clueless notes through the years!). Thankfully, I’ve never been caught passing notes by my teachers.
These days, you won’t get caught if you use this: the awesome Secret Pen!

Just grab a regular piece of paper and write your note using the invisible-ink pen. When you’re done, pass the note and ask your friend to read your message using her Secret Pen (she has to switch on the light on the pen’s cap).
Here’s a sample of how a letter looks when you switch on the light:

Steph actually gave me this pen as a gift, so I’m trying to surprise her by leaving seemingly blank notes on her desk.
Be sure to get some Secret Pens for you and your friends! That way, you can send each other confidential notes without fear of being caught or your letters being read by nosy people.

Heaven in a Tub
Thursday, June 24th, 2010It’s not a secret that I’m a self-confessed ice cream lover. If it doesn’t make a person gain so much weight, I would probably eat ice cream every single day. I love ice cream so much that I even sacrificed it for Lent last year. I remember I sobbed when McDonald’s had the Oreo Hot Fudge at that time. Two of my favorites in one concoction! Imagine how tempting that was!
I was able to try the new Nestle Heaven and it made me feel I was floating in air and I even saw angels around me. Ok I’m over exaggerating but it’s actually really good. It comes in 4 flavors and Macy and I got to taste all of them.
Butter Pecan is like Sebastian‘s Butter Pecan only less creamier. It’s buttery and sweet. The Chocolate Belgian Bliss had real chocolate bits which I really like. It’s not too sweet and the texture is really smooth.
The Strawberry Cream is our favorite! The mix of berries and cream complimented each other. It was sweet in the palate and it’s actually refreshing, too. Perfect for a hot day. The Vanilla Almond was also good, too. The vanilla flavor doesn’t taste artificial and the almonds are chunky.
Macy and I didn’t get to enjoy the Nestle Heaven to the fullest so we decided to hit the grocery to get us a tub of Strawberry Cream to share with the rest of the Candy Team. Too bad they don’t have it yet but look at what we found…
Candy bar in a jar of ice cream!!! It’s sooo good! It has a lot of caramel and real Babyruth pieces. They also have Kitkat and Crunch ice cream. We’ll try that for sure!
What’s your favorite ice cream flavor? Tell me about it!
<3,
Roch

Angel’s Dog Day
Wednesday, June 23rd, 2010Last weekend, my guy and I drove to Angeles to visit his family—and his new puppy! :dog:

Meet Sheldon, a four-month old American cocker spaniel. We named him that ’cause we’re both fans of The Big Bang Theory.
I’ve always wanted a dog, but my dad would never allow it so I’ve had to settle for playing with my friends’ adorable dogs (I love Mia’s and Tatin’s cute fur kids!). Though I’ve always pined for a dog of my own, I had no idea how challenging it would be to actually have one!
Roland and I took Sheldon to the Parade Grounds in Clark so we could all run together. On the way there, Sheldon was so hyper and malikot. I figured he was just excited. After awhile though, he started whimpering—and just as we pulled into the parking lot, he pooped in my car!!! We had to spend the next half hour cleaning up his mess. (Well, Roland cleaned it up while I handed him tissue and wet wipes! Hehe.)
After that, it was time for his walk. We tied a leash around him and thought everything would be fine now but after taking just a few steps, Sheldon would stop and sit, refusing to budge. We tried to bribe him with food, but the whole stop-sit-feed-walk routine got tiring after awhile so we decided to just go back to the car and give him a proper meal.

Turns out, the little guy was just hungry and thirsty. After that, he became hyper again and ready to run!

I love this shot of “man and his best friend.” It was so nice to see Roland and Sheldon finally running together—it almost made me forget about the pooping incident. Hehe.
So I think it will take awhile for me to be a true dog lover—to take all the good stuff (the unwavering loyalty and love) with the bad (the pooping, biting, and other naughtiness). But I’m glad I got to spend time with Sheldon. Despite what happened, I felt bad when it was time to say goodbye.
So what do you love about dogs? What are your favorite breeds? I’d love to hear stories about your pets!
Still wishing for my own dog,
Angel
P.S. If you need tips on taking care of your dog or helping him/her become more obedient, watch Dog Whisperer with Cesar Millan on the National Geographic Channel. He’s really amazing—I learned so much from watching him deal with different kinds of dogs on his show.
