Oodles of Goodles
Wednesday, December 9th, 2009I love eating. And I love eating with the Candy Girls. It’s just so much fun to sit down with friends and have an awesome time while stuffing your face. Even better when the food is good. So when Shar, former Candy editor (and Council of Cool member, too!), opened Goodles, it was but natural for us to head over there to catch up, have a good laugh, and try her pasta creations.
So when you’re in Galleria, drop by Goodles. We’re sure you’ll love everything they have to offer. What’s great about it is you can eat at the store, or take it to go (maybe your next cinema snack?). It’s super budget-friendly, too, with prices ranging from P125-P170.
Can’t wait to bring my friends there and try the rest of the menu.
Goodles is at the 4th Level, Robinsons Galleria, Ortigas Avenue corner EDSA.

Mia Loves Girlfriends
Monday, December 7th, 2009Hi, Candy Girls!
I just wanted to say a quick goodbye since I’ll be going on vacay for the rest of December and part of January (so you won’t be hearing from me for some time). I’m getting married this month, and the Candy team and my college friends surprised me with the sweetest bridal shower ever! They thought of everything and knocked themselves out even down to the last detail. It was also so overwhelming in a really, really nice way to have all my favorite females packed into one room—think surprise-birthday-party happy vibes times one hundred! Managing Ed Mimi and former Candy EIC Mia Fausto Cruz really hammed it up playing MCs, and the Candy Girls and my barkada super went all out during the games and gift-giving. Our Team Publisher Koko even scared me into thinking there was a stripper behind me! If there’s one thing you learn when getting ready to get hitched, it’s how much love you have in your life—not just from your hubby-to-be but from all the people around you. ![]()

All my favorite girls in one room!

Sweets are the way to my heart! Loved these scrumptious baked goods from Pastry Princess. Check out their store on Multiply, as well as at The World Trade Center Bazaar.

Sharing milestones with your friends is the best. Mimi recently got engaged, Ivy’s daughter recently celebrated her third birthday, and Nash and her hubby are expecting their first baby.

Universal Wishlist
Monday, December 7th, 2009I’m sure we all have things we’d like to get for Christmas. Most of the time, our wishlists consist of material stuff—maybe a new phone, or a pretty party dress, or tough studded sandals, or a pot of cherry cheesecake lip balm, or a pint of Butter Pecan ice cream, or a book of short stories, or a DVD of 17 Again. (Yes, these items are all on MY wishlist.) Most of the time, it is so easy for us to rattle off a list of things we’d like to receive because what we want is often tangible—something we can purchase at the mall, or order online, or ask our parents to buy for us.
But here’s something I realized recently: Next year, the stuff on my current wishlist won’t even matter. They’ll probably be at the back of my closet, or hidden in a box somewhere. Next year, I’ll want an entirely different set of material things, and the year after that, I’ll want something else, and so on and so forth. I’m willing to bet that this applies to you as well, Candy Girls. It’s not wrong to want a new laptop or new shoes; it’s normal to feel like you have to have that floral skirt or that leather-bound notebook. But beneath all that, there must be something deeper—something that money can’t buy and time can’t diminish.
So here’s my non-material list for this year, and I call it a Universal Wishlist because I believe everyone deserves these things. Have a happy December, guys and girls!
1. I wish you a fun weekend with awesome people who believe in you no matter what.

2. I wish you lots of laughter—on good days, on bad days, and on in-between days.
3. I wish you something to look forward to next month, next year, in the next ten years, and even when you’re 80!
4. I wish you lots of big dreams and crazy goals, and the strength and courage to pursue them.
5. I wish you a happy, healthy family.
6. I wish you one little life lesson every day. That’s 365 little life lessons in a year!
7. I wish you the ability to find beauty and inspiration in the smallest things.
8. I wish you the ability to trust in the goodness of other people.
9. I wish you peace of mind every night before you go to sleep, and hope and positivity when you wake up every morning.
10. I wish you love. Lots and lots of it.
Big hugs,
Marla

Happy Birthday, Mia!!!
Friday, December 4th, 2009It’s our sweetest/nicest editor-in-chief’s last birthday as a single lady (haha!), and we’re all excited to have lunch with her. We’re waiting for her to come and pick us up in her van, and we can’t wait to give her birthday gifts!
Show Mia how much you love her by posting your sweet birthday greetings below. I’m sure she’ll feel extremely grateful to know you guys love her as much as we do!
Mimi
UPDATE: After our super busawg lunch at Burgoo, we surprised Mia by singing for her and giving her cake. We didn’t get to try it anymore, but it looked really good!

A Trip to La-La Land
Wednesday, December 2nd, 2009During my US trip, I was able to visit some friends in the State where everyone is – California! It was 4 days of pure fun, bonding, and laughter. Let me list down the reasons why I love LA.
1. In-N-Out
This is the most famous burger joint in LA. It was my first stop as soon as I got there. The Animal Style Fries is sooooo good! It has melty cheese, grilled sweet garlic, and a load of their own Thousand Island Dressing. Their buger is a must-try, too! (:
2. Hollywood Blvd.
The highlight of Los Angeles – Hollywood Blvd. This is where all the stars go during premieres and awards nights. There’s Kodak Theater, Grauman’s Chinese Theater, and the ever famous Hollywood Walk of Fame. Here with me is Britney Spears’ star and at the Grauman’s Chinese Theater with my friend, Pat.
3. Forever 21
The biggest Forever 21 store in found in Old Pasadena in California. It’s so huge its like a mall only for Forever 21! It was my shopping haven wherever I went! I went gaga with all their accessories and tops. I love the thought the prices of their stuff is really reasonable and cheap. I hope we’ll have Forever 21 here in Manila soon.
4. Seeing my super close friend and 2007 Candy Cutie, Marc Dela Torre
It was great seeing a really close friend who’s staying in Glendale in California. It’s been a year since he visited Manila and now it’s my time to visit him and the rest of our friends in LA. It’s nice to know that I have true friends, who will always be there for you no matter what, even though they’re miles away. (:
5. Universal Studio’s Horror Night
This was the highlight of my trip. Halloween in the US is pretty a big deal so most theme parks have their own Halloween stints. My friends and I went to the one at Universal Studio and I swear, it was hella scary! There were Pig Face Monsters from Saw and other scary character in Universal movies. There are also Horror Mazes that I can’t wait to get out of. Even though I almost died, I had so much fun. (:
6. Pump my own gas!
I know it’s so shallow but I was so ecstatic when my friend let me pump the gas on our last day. d:
7. Bargain shopping!
This was another highlight! Went to Santee in Downtown LA for cheap shopping. It’s like Greenhills or 168. Their shoes and clothes are so nice and cheap! I actually didn’t have plans on shopping for anything but souvenir shirts for pasalubongs but I ended up buying a new pair of shades and a coat. I love them!
8. Manhattan Beach
I had to check out the beaches of California for my last stop. The sand was fine and clean. There were a lot of people fishing and chilling by the beach. I wanted to see some dudes surfing but the water is too cold to surf on. How I wish I own any of those houses by the beach. The view was just breathtaking. d:
I can say so many things I love about LA but it will take me forever. Share me your recent trips. I’d love to hear your stories.
Missin’ LA,
Roch <3
