Day in the Life of Candy
Simple Joys
As I turn a year older each year, I realize that it doesn’t take much to make me happy. When I was 16, I demanded a party every year so I could invite all of my friends. Hahaha! This year, I didn’t even plan anything!
Five Things I Love About Birthdays
- It’s a reason to celebrate. It doesn’t even have to be a big production. On my birthday, I had pizza for lunch with the Candy Girls. We tried out Shakey’s Angus Steakhouse pizza. Too bad they missed out on the crunchy potato strips. ):

After work, I headed to the mall to have dinner with my family. We had a filling meal at Recipes. My favorite: General’s Chicken! + White Chocolate Macadamia Cake from Secret Recipe, right next door. - It’s full of surprises. Of course you already expect some form of surprise—a greeting from a long, lost friend, cake from the restaurant you’re celebrating in, a postcard in the mailbox. But for some reason, there are still some things that you don’t expect.Marla and I are The Novembers (along with Koko, our publisher, and Jen, our former beauty editor), meaning we share November as our birth month. So, the Candy Girls gave us matching gifts (pretty Teneues Magneto Planners for 2010)!

- The sweet notes that come with the presents—or sweet notes, period. I love reading letters. I have a big box at home full of notecards, palanca letters, greeting cards, and more. So when I get gifts, I like reading the notes that come with them. (: I got two special ones that made me tear up. One from our former EIC Ines and another from our former web designer Beam. You girls are too sweet!

- The thoughtfulness of people. In this day of Facebook, I doubt if people would actually still forget about your special day. I did a screen cap of my profile page just to show you how many notifications I got that day, hahaha.

My phone is usually silent for most of the day, but I was surprised to get calls! Haha, and by the end of the day, two friends I hadn’t heard from for a very long time greeted me. That made me very happy. (: - The stars just simply align for you. I don’t know about you, but I find that if you start your day (maybe this works not just for birthdays) with the thought “this is my special day,” everything just might go your way. (:

Margaux was back in the office from her US trip so she handed out our pasalubong on my birthday. Tada! New Chocolate Chip lip balm for me. (:My brother told me that he had a gift for me but he didn’t say what it was. At dinner, he gave me this pink Coca Cola tumbler. I was so happy! I had been wanting it all week and would whine every time the commercial was on. (If you want one, too, read this!)
I’ve been looking for a comfy pair of flats for some time now. When Steph told me about these studded flats, I got excited! After dinner with my family, we passed by Bayo to check the shoes out (my aunt was going to buy them for me!) but unfortunately, the store was already closed. But because my uncle told the sales lady that it was my birthday, they let us in, anyway!
What do you love about birthdays?
Feeling happy and loved,
Macy
PS
You’re all invited to my birthday party this Saturday. I’ve invited Katy Perry and mae to perform. HAHAHA! (: I’m kidding about the birthday party part. But seriously, you shouldn’t miss this concert! Not only do you get to see Katy Perry and mae (plus Journey and Jed Madela) perform, you also get to help the victims of the typhoons. Go get your tickets now!
