Day in the Life of Candy
Cruisin’ Through Chicago
August 6th, 2009Hi, Candy girls!
I just got back from a trip to the US. Did you miss me? ![]()
I was only there for two weeks (so bitin!) but the trip was a lot of fun and jam-packed with activities. First, we headed to California (near LA) for the double wedding of my aunts and uncles, and for a bunch of family gatherings with my relatives there. Then, we headed to Vegas! But my favorite part of the trip would definitely have to be going to Chicago. Here’s why:
1. One of my best-est friends is there.

Meet Camille! We were neighbors, carpool-mates, and schoolmates from grade school to college. Now she’s a hotshot lawyer. I was so happy I got the chance to bond with her in Chicago. In this photo, we were at a quaint little Italian place we discovered by accident after buying tickets for…

2. Harry Potter: The Exhibition

This traveling exhibit showcases original props, costumes, and sets from the six Harry Potter movies. I was thrilled to see it with Camille, who is also a huge HP fan. we were squealing the whole time we were there!

We weren’t allowed to take photos inside the exhibit but I managed to take a few stolen shots with my phone cam. These are the dress robes of Hermione, Harry, and Dumbledore as seen in HP4!

And this is the Flying Ford Anglia that Harry and Ron rode to school when they missed the Hogwarts Express in HP2! (This was outside the exhibit already so it was perfectly legal to take photos. Hehe.)

3. The Beautiful Architecture

One thing Chicago is known for is the unique architecture of the buildings. Unlike other cities where it’s boring to look at office buildings, each building in Chicago has an interesting character and history. The Marina City Complex is one of my favorites because they look like corn cobs!

The black building on the left is the Willis Tower (formerly Sears Tower), the tallest building in Chicago, and one of the top 10 tallest in the world. Think the pink building on the right is just as tall? Its real height is actually that of its shadow (as reflected in the Willis Tower). Cool optical illusion, huh?

This is Cloud Gate by British artist Anish Kapoor. (Personally, I like to call it the Magic Bean.) Located in Millennium Park, it’s designed to reflect the sky and the buildings around. Exquisite!

4. Chicago’s Deep Dish Pizza

I tried a lot of really good food in Chicago, but this Pesto Mozzarella deep dish pizza from Pizzeria Uno would definitely take the top spot!

The Pizzeria Uno special is a close second—my mouth is watering just thinking about it!

5. The Hershey Store

A chocolate lover’s trip to Chicago would not be complete without stopping by the Hershey store. I wish I could have taken home this 5-pound chocolate bar!

They also had a cafe filled with huge, yummy-looking treats like cupcakes, cookies, brownies and more! My sister and I finally settled on the Smores brownie and the Peppermint brownie.
-
6. And last but not the least… the shopping!

There is an area downtown called “The Magnificent Mile” filled with the best shops ever! My mom, my sister and I had to control ourselves from burning all our money. But we allowed ourselves treats from H&M and Nike Town (each store had several floors!).
I have so many more photos and stories to share, but it would take me forever to tell them all! I fell in love with Chicago and I can’t wait to go back! (Though my friend tells me I might change my mind if I go there during the winter. Hehe.) Do you feel the same way about other cities?
Missing Chicago,
Angel
