Free Fallin’
Friday, August 28th, 2009Hi, Candy Girls!
Do you remember my blog about my BDG? Just wanted to share that I’ve finally fulfilled one of my lifelong dreams, and it surpassed all of my expectations!
The Spot: Macau Tower

Stands at 338 meters (1,109 feet!). Apparently, this location holds the title as the highest commercial bungee jump at 233 meters above ground.
The Partner in Crime: One of my best friends, Blanche

She was a little iffy about doing it originally. But since she’s a big thrill-seeker like me, she agreed to do it! (Can you see her scaredy-cat smile in the photo? She did the jump before I did so she was really nervous.)
The Support Group: Our high school kabarkadas, Tin and Leigh

These two were part of our reverse bungee posse in Singapore, but they could not imagine plunging headfirst down the tower. (Who could blame them?) During the actual jump, they took lots of videos and photos of us which I am eternally thankful for.
The Preparation

Unlike my friend who was aided by a friendly Pinoy, some sungit guy helped me with my equipment. I guess I should thank him for helping me forget about my pre-jump jitters (I was momentarily distracted by his crankiness). Plus, he was really concerned about keeping me alive, so safety—not niceties—came first.
The Ledge

I was crooning to Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers’ “Free Fallin’” weeks before the jump, so I tried humming it to clear my mind. However, the observation deck’s thumping music was so loud that I couldn’t complete the whole song. In hindsight, it was a wise tactic by the tower because the party music easily masked the screams of the spectators as the bungee jumpers took the leap (which made it less scary for us, haha!).
Outside I was all smiles, but when the cute Aussie guy started counting down “Five… four… three… two… one…” behind me, my heart nearly jumped off my chest!
The Jump

The fear lasted as quick as the scream I let out once I jumped off. (See my actual jump here.) It was instantly replaced by the bliss of floating in a silent abyss. I didn’t even close my eyes when I was descending down the tower because I wanted the moment to last. Of course, this experience lasted for only a couple of minutes, but the thrill lasted more than a week.
It was ultimately an awesome experience worth repeating. I wonder where I can do it next…

Candy Goes Bowling
Thursday, August 27th, 2009Hi, Candy Girls!
Last Thursday, the Candy Team—along with makeup artist Tatin, photographers Pat, Miguel, and Kai, Pat’s girlfriend Peachy, and their friend JV—went to Galleria for dinner and bowling.
Guess who we bumped into on the way there? Candy cover boy AJ Perez! Macy, Roch, and I actually saw him near Burgoo with his family while walking to Pancake House. He gladly walked us there so he could say hi to the rest of the gang. What a sweetie!
After dinner, we were off to the bowling lanes. We had the whole place to ourselves! Here we are getting ready to hit those pins with our multi-colored bowling balls.
Check out some of our signature moves! Can you tell who’s who?
Our top scorers: Mimi and Mia! Mimi oozes with confidence while Mia is prim and proper, as always. (It was Mia’s first time to bowl but she surprised us all by getting a really high score. Galing!)
Group shot after the game!
Dead Tired: Yes, girls, bowling is that exhausting!
That’s it for our fun bowling adventure! (Too bad I got the lowest score ’cause my balls kept going to the gutter. Can you say kulelat? Oops! Hehe.)
What sports do you guys play with your friends? Share them with us and we might just try ‘em too!
Striking out,
Angel

A Trip to the Land of the Chinky Eyed Mickey Mouse
Wednesday, August 26th, 2009One of my new year’s wishlist was fulfilled – an out of the country trip with my friends. My church friends and I took advantage of an airline seat sale months ago and booked ourselves a trip to Hong Kong. It was my first time to go on an out of the country trip without my family so it’s a whole new experience for me. Words can’t explain how fun the trip was. Let me share you the highlight of our trip.
- Waiting at the Airport so early in the morning to get to our plane to Hong Kong. I actually didn’t get to sleep much because I had last minute things to do before leaving. We all pretty much slept at the plane to give us energy for a long day when we get to HK.
- The moment we arrived in HK, we did our main goal – SHOPPING! We went shopping for 2 days straight and didn’t even care if our feet are hurting already after all the walking. What’s to complain if everything was on S-A-L-E!!!
- Other than shopping, all we did was to eat, eat, eat, eat and EAT! Oh wait, did I say eat?
- 11 people who went on an out of the country trip? This calls for a party! Since its our group’s second year anniversary, we all went out and celebrated our 2 years of friendship! Cheers!
- The highlight of it all – HONG KONG DISNEYLAND! We felt like kids enjoying the Mickey Mouse and friends in a theme park that’s just twice as big as Enchanted Kingdom. Even though it was scorching hot, I didn’t stop us from having fun.
- At the last day of our trip, I played as a tour guide for the people who went to Hong Kong for the first time. We headed to Victoria’s Peak and see the view of Hong Kong.
Even though some drama occurred during the trip, we didn’t let it get to us. It actually made our bond stronger. One hell of a trip I must say and I’m already looking forward to the next. (:
Still on Vacation Mode,
Roch <3

When September Starts
Tuesday, August 25th, 2009Next month will be a big one for me—I’ll be going on a much-awaited trip with my family, and some of my favorite girls will be celebrating their birthdays. But here are the other reasons why I can’t wait for September.
Our Candy Cuties issue is finally out! Yay! We’ve got hottie Rob Pattinson on the cover of the magazine and model Lance Christopher on the cover of the Cuties special. Plus, we’re having the Candy Fair on September 26 at the Megatent along Meralco Ave. IMPORTANT: Our ads says 12noon, but please be there by 11 AM because some VERY special guests (okay, very special and very cute GUYS) will be kicking off the event! I promise you wouldn’t want to miss that.

My three favorite shows will soon be back with a brand new season! What happens to the Upper East Siders after graduation? Will Robin and Barney stay together in How I Met Your Mother? And if Leonard and Penny become a couple in The Big Bang Theory, will Sheldon and the rest of the geeky gang be okay with it?

And last but not the least, Boys Like Girls (Mimi and I looove them) will be coming out with a new album on the 8th. I love the video for their single “Love Drunk” featuring Ashley Tisdale, and I’m pretty sure this new batch of songs will have me singing along for days. And of course, the boys are still as adorable as ever (I even got to chat with one of them over the phone a few weeks ago!)

Hope you have a smashing September too, Candy Girls!
Big hugs,
Marla

Freeway <3 Art
Thursday, August 20th, 2009Dear Candy girls,
Last Tuesday, Marla and I attended the launch of Freeway’s newest collection which commemorates Filipino culture and talent. It’s called the Freeway National Artist Collector Series.
This collection honors National Artist and literary genius Nick Joaquin, who wrote classic stories such as The Woman Who had Two Navels, A Portrait of the Artist as Filipino, May Day Eve, and Summer Solstice. His magical words are merged with beautiful graphics in this eight piece pocket collection that includes graphic tees, hoodies, woven tops, shirt dresses, and for the first time, a graphic tee for men.
The collection also includes a Nick Joaquin Limited Edition Clutch. Each piece contains an authenticated Nick Joaquin National artist stamp and is wrapped in individual special packaging, so it makes for a great gift! Don’t you think this is such a great way to promote Philippine art AND honor deserving National Artists?
To see the entire collection, visit Freeway’s website at www.freeway.net.ph. Grab yourself a piece from the collection at any Freeway branch and show your pride for Philippine art and culture!
Loving art,
Angel
