Day in the Life of Candy
Hooked on Harry
July 21st, 2009Because I still have a Half-Blood Prince hangover, here’s a quick questionnaire for all my fellow Potterheads out there.
1. What would amortentia smell like to you?
Vanilla and coconut, coffee and cinnamon, chicken soup, garlic rice and bacon frying in the morning, freshly-washed sheets, baby powder, citrus-scented car freshener.
2. If you looked into The Mirror of Erised, what would you see?
A husband I adore who can make me laugh on the worst days, smart, talented, beautiful kids (two boys and a girl), and a shelf full of teen lit and children’s books—all written by me.
3. Which particular memory would you focus on if you had to create a Patronus?
Watching the fireworks light up the sky with my family on New Year’s Eve 2008. We were all on the brink of a brand-new life—my brother was getting married in a couple of weeks, and we all had a feeling that the changes, though they came abruptly, were going to bring wonderful things. I was standing on a Makati sidewalk on a chilly evening in a sheer sleeveless dress, but I had never felt, in the words of Ned the Piemaker, so safe and warm and loved.
4. If it was possible to accio people, who would you summon right now?
My best friend since high school, Steph. She turned 24 last Saturday, and I wasn’t able to celebrate with her because she lives three and a half hours away. Also my sister Marcy, who I haven’t seen in more than two weeks, because I have a surprise for her.
5. Where would you like to apparate to?
New York, so I can stalk the Gossip Girl cast as they film for the next season.
6. What would your boggart look like?
Being stuck in a broken elevator with a cassowary, the world’s most dangerous bird. It has long, sharp claws that can literally gut you like a fish, and I wish I were exaggerating but I’m not.
7. If you drank a vial of felix felicis for breakfast, what would happen for the rest of the day?
I’d discover a pretty new top in my closet, my jeans would fit perfectly, and it would only take two minutes to curl my hair. While getting dressed, I’d hear Owl City’s “Fireflies” on the radio, or The Scene Aesthetic’s cover of “Love Story.” I’d come up with the wittiest titles and subheads for my sections and write a moving short story in a span of one hour. All the models and celebrities and photographers I try to book for a shoot would be free and willing. I’d get a Facebook message from my crush, and a friend would invite me to an impromptu dinner. Work would be called off for the following day, which means I can stay out as late as I want to. And then David Archuleta—clad in a tough leather jacket but smiling like the total sweetie he is—would show up on my doorstep, declaring his undying, unconditional age-and-distance-defying love for me.
Post your answers in the comments section! Have a magical week, everyone!
Big hugs,
Marla

I love this entry Marley!
Mine would be:
1) baby powder, vanilla, cinnamon, and shea butter by Body Shop.
2) me and my husband living happily ever after forever and ever. hahaha.
3) when i first slow-danced with a boy, and knew we would be together forever.
4) I’d accio my best friend, Barbie because she’s in China now.
5) Somewhere nice and cool (Baguio or Tagaytay would be nice)
6) Cockroaches, millions of cockroaches and rats. Yuck.
7) I would have a great day with NO stress, with a Tokidoki surprise, then a nice dinner with my guy to end the night.

It’s so hard to think of the answers to some of your questions, Marley! I need time to think about it.
The only one I could instantly think of is number 5. I’d love to Apparate to Calgary to visit the Belos. I miss bonding with my sister and hugging my honeybunch.

Okay, I didn’t realize it was hard to answer this pala.
1. Vanilla, honey, and butter. Roasted garlic and maple bacon. Baby powder and lavender.
2. A pretty white house with cookies in the oven. My beautiful children, one boy and one girl, giggling and running around the house with my husband smiling at me. I’d be in the kitchen happily baking. (:
3. Christmas of 2007. It was the happiest holiday I spent with family. We spent it in a broken down house-turned-hospital but I’ve never been happier. Nights were spent in one room, chatting up each other until we felt sleepy.
4. Maybe one of my good friends Mikko, because she’s all the way in Alaska. Oooor maybe she should accio me! Haha!
5. To Canada because I was supposed to spend my second summer there. I would’ve been in NYC, too, and stalk the Gossip Girl stars. d:
6. Me stuck in a very, very high tower with no railing. And with a strong gust of wind every five seconds. Eeek!
7. I’d wake up to a beautiful sunny day with “Everyday is a Holiday” by Esthero playing in the background. The moment I step out of my house, everything would magically transform into the prettiest beach and I’d have the love of my life waiting for me to jump into the clear, blue water. The day would end with a lovely sunset and a candle lit dinner by the beach.

Cool survey, Marley!!! Okay, I can’t think of all the answers right now, but I would definitely apparate back to Chicago to spend more time with my best friend and go back to that Harry Potter exhibit and take photos of all the stuff while no one is looking!
