Ingredients to Stress-Free Days
Friday, June 19th, 2009Hey, Candy Girls!
Has school finally started? I’m sure some of you are bummed about it, but not to worry, I’m here to teach you how to live a stress-free life (or at least attempt to). I came up with these quick tips during my relaxing vacay in Boracay last weekend.
1) Touch
A quick back rub or foot massage instantly releases tension. Did you know you could cure a bad headache by pressing the right spot in your palm? (In case you’re wondering, this was what I saw while having my outdoor massage. Beautiful, huh?)

2) Taste
A fresh shake can help boost your immune system (choose fruits packed with vitamin C) or help you stay awake (mix some coffee
). I usually go for shakes with bananas, watermelons, or strawberries :strawberry: in it, but this lemon shake is quite refreshing!

3) See
You don’t need to go far away to beat stress, just keep a mental image of your favorite scene. We only managed to encounter one beautiful twilight in Bora, but the sunsets I see from my condo window are always aah-mazing!

4) Feel
Friends never fail to make a person feel special. I only discovered this circle of cool girls (that’s me with Nats, Kaye, and Blanche—Mel sadly didn’t get to join us) later in life, but I feel like we’ve known each other forever! They laugh at my jokes even when they’re downright mean, they constantly show their concern (they were bummed when I had a bum stomach and broke my lomo cam), and they are the best people to travel with because they’re so chill.

5) Hear
iPod playlists are the bomb! You can make one in a matter of seconds then play and edit it repeatedly. Why don’t you make one that would help you get up in the morning or help beat drowsiness while you burn the midnight oil? Try these ditties which were in my beach mix:
Metro Station – “Tell Me What to Do”
Marla, Macy, Koko, and I did our crazy (pointing) dance to the lines “I’m so in love with you, you, you! Uh-oh!” at the band’s TriNoma show. We lurve Metro Station, and I needed an excuse to post this cute collage of Trace, Blake, and me and my pals making heart signs. So there. Haha!

The Limousines – “Very Busy People”
Koko (the girl at the bottom left) gave me this song. I laughed out loud when I heard it because these lines describe me perfectly: “I’ve got an iPod like a pirate ship, I’ll sail the seas with 50,000 songs I’ve never heard.”
The Black Eyed Peas – “Rock That Body”
Their brand-new album The E.N.D. rocks the house. I love this track because it promotes body love no matter what your size is.
Craig David – “Insomnia”
This wasn’t originally included in my playlist, but I heard it about 5 to 10 times while I was in Bora, so it deserves an honorable mention.
Lady GaGa – “Just Dance”
I totally dig “Paparrazzi,” but I also love this song because of its carefree vibe. Perfect to play at the beach, or any time you feel like saying, “Oh well, no matter what happens, I’m going to be okay.” In GaGa-related news, Macy showed me this choir’s funky rendition of “Just Dance,” while Roch told me that Lady GaGa is coming to Manila for a concert. How awesome is that? We can’t wait to see her perform in crazy outfits!
Hope these tips work for you. Have a restful weekend, and Happy Father’s Day to your dads!
Mimi

Angel’s June Highs
Thursday, June 18th, 2009We’re only halfway through the month of June and already, a lot of good things have happened! Here’s a look at what I’m loving this month:
1. The search for Candy cuties!
We’ve had two shoots so far and the boys are looking cuter than ever. Sorry, girls, we can’t reveal who they are yet but voting will be up on the site very soon so watch out for it! Shooting the cuties is always fun, not only ’cause of the boys, but also because we get to bond as a team and we get a load of other special guests…

Like our makeup artist Tatin’s super cute doggie Tank! He’s the cuddliest dog ever and he’s so well-behaved (though Tatin claims he’s much naughtier at home!)

We also had fun shooting each other with Tatin’s Illusion Lenses. All you have to do is stick ‘em on your point and shoot to create instant effects like these! Super cool!

Guess who else dropped by at the second shoot? COC7′s Ej (bringing cuties) and Ana (bringing accessories)!

2. Radio Tour to promote the June issue

It was my first time to go alone but the very friendly DJs of Jam 88.3, Wave 89.1, and NU 107.5 made me feel right at home.
Did any of you happen to catch me on air? ![]()

3. Brothers Wagyu Burger

This is Brothers latest creation and… I am just speechless because it’s soooo good! It’s a soft, tender, juicy, sizzles-and-melts-in-your-mouth-at-the-same-time type of burger—just as a premium Wagyu beef should be. It’s at a very reasonable price of P350 with a side of fries and veggies. It will be available this Sunday so go get one at any Brothers Burgers branch and ask your dad to treat you!

4. The Pussycat Dolls Concert
I’m a big fan of PCD but I didn’t want to spend on concert tickets again so soon after David vs David. So imagine my excitement when MTV gave us free VIP tickets on the day itself! The other Candy girls were busy so I asked my guy to come along with me. It just so happened that it was our 39th monthsary that day (June 11) but we didn’t have anything special planned. Instant date!

The Dolls really rocked the grounds of SM MOA that night, singing their hits like “When I Grow Up,” “I Hate This Part,” and “Jai Ho” (which was my LSS for three days after the concert).

Half-Pinay beauty Nicole Scherzinger sends her love to all of PCD’s Filipino fans.

5. And finally… Dairy Queen’s Chips Ahoy Ice Cream Cake

I bought this for my mom and dad’s anniversary and for Father’s day. Trust me, its sweetness is enough for two occasions! Hehe. Layers of DQ ice cream with gooey chocolate in between and crushed cookies for the crust… HEAVEN!

So that’s it for my June so far… I wonder what the rest of the month will bring?
Here’s hoping it’ll be just as sweet!
Love,
Angel

Dance for the Lord
Wednesday, June 17th, 2009Dancing has been my passion ever since. It’s actually my favorite kind of exercise. The adrenaline rush is just incomparable to anything. I sometimes see myself dancing in the shower. Whenever there’s a routine I have to learn, I try to practice every day in my room just to get the hang of it.
It’s been 2 years since I’ve joined SE and it was just this year I got to audition for the Dance Ministry. I wasn’t able to join last year due to uncontrollable circumstances but now, I’m glad I’m already part of the group and dance for the Lord. It will be a bit different compared to the other routines I’ve done before. This time, we’re doing this for the one up there. Practices would be held twice a week before the next SE weekend and I’m so excited for it. There’s no other way give thanks but to offer your passion to Him. (:
This was during the SE weekend held last year (I wasn’t part of the team yet d:)
In Him,
Roch <3

Questions & Answers
Tuesday, June 16th, 2009How was your long weekend, Candy Girls? Mine was packed with all sorts of awesome stuff such as sitting front and center at the Metro Station mall show in Trinoma, sleeping until noon and cooking a yummy chicken and pasta lunch for myself, shooting this year’s Candy Cuties, finally meeting my friend Chezca’s boyfriend, Daniel (watch for him in a future issue!), hanging out with different sets of friends until the wee hours of the morning for three nights straight, watching my nephew take baby steps across their living room, and going shopping for pretty dresses and tops with my Mom.
My weekend was also amazing because I was finally able to answer three very important questions I’ve always wanted to answer:
What’s the most embarrassing thing you’ve ever said?
My friend Maris introduced me to one of the bosses in her office, and we started talking about young celebrities teens like. We were talking about local bands and the Jonas Brothers when he goes, “Kids like Zac Efron, right? Isn’t he gay?” I answer, a little too loudly and a bit too violently, “Hindi siya bading!!!” And then everyone turned to stare at me as an awkward silence descended over the table. This definitely beats all the boo-boos I make during radio tours and TV guestings.
You’re not a teenager anymore. Why do you still act like one?
Because it’s fun! You get to scream along to songs about being so in love with someone while trying to take proper photos and dodge tattooed musician’s sweaty shirt bombs. You also get to make impromptu fangirl signs out of bond paper and purple markers, and hold it up hopefully while jumping and down to catch the drummer’s attention. Besides, I don’t act like a teen ALL the time. I am utterly manang about certain things, like…trying to stick to my bedtime. And, and…I can’t think of anything else right now, but let me get back to you when I do.
Why are you always talking about your nephew Cisco?
Because he’s cute. And the things that he does, I won’t find cute on anyone else. Think about it—would YOU find it cute when anyone over eighteen months crawls around the room in a sando and shorts, or sits on his rocking horse and says “hosh!” or grabs your necklace and drools all over your hair? Nope, didn’t think so.
There should be more long weekends. They bring so much enlightenment into my life.
Big hugs,
Marla

Are You Having A Good Day?
Monday, June 15th, 2009We always talk about having good days or bad days, but we rarely list what exactly would make us say, “Hey, am having a good day today!” I figure if we jot it down, we’re one step closer to making it happen. Let me start with a simple, attainable list.
I know I’m having a good weekday when:
1)I know exactly what outfit to slip into, before I even shower.
2)My hair is on its best behavior, no flat iron needed.
3)Art Director Steph texts me she has a surprise for me, and when I get to my cube, I find a super cute Hello Kitty item. Today it was a pretty notepad with strawberries all over!
4)There’s only one proof on my desk waiting for my approval, as opposed to a mountain of proofs (which happens more often than it should).
5)Krispy Kreme sends a box of their newest donuts, and the Candy eds and I have a food party in our office pantry.
6)My guy finishes early at work and picks me up for an impromptu date. There’s something so exhilarating about seeing your favorite person when you had no idea you’d be seeing them that day at all.
7)Or I finish early at work and I make it home in time for CSI or any good TV show. I’m so starved for TV time like you won’t believe! I even like seeing commercials, because I rarely get to park myself on the couch. What a weirdo, right?
8)I get to catch up with my parents. I find it slightly disconcerting when I get home so late and I don’t get to see them at all for one whole day.
9)I get to play with my dogs, shower them with treats, and practice their commands.
10)I get to read whatever book is currently on my nightstand.
How about you, Candy Girls? What would be on your “I know I’m having a good day” List? Would love to hear about it! Drop me a line here or at mia@candymag.com!
Lots of Love,
Mia
