Gaming Frenzy

Friday, May 29th, 2009

The Disney Channel is launching a brand-new show tonight at 8 pm called Aaron Stone! It’s a tale about Charlie Landers, a seemingly ordinary guy who’s actually an awesome online gamer. His life changes forever when the billionaire who invented his favorite game (Hero Rising) enlists him to become his online avatar (named Aaron Stone) to save the world.

The question is: will he accept his mission? What will happen to the world if he doesn’t? Marla and I got to watch the show a few months back and we thought the lead actor (Kelly Blatz) looked like a cross between actor Shia LaBouf and singer Josh Groban. What do you think? The guy behind him is Stan, Charlie’s android sidekick, who is hilariously funny!

Now I totally understand Charlie’s obsession with Hero Rising. Recently, Macy and Steph told me about this PSP game called Patapon. I found it cute because the little creatures had to follow the beat while walking, attacking, and protecting their forces. (Plus, it’s amusing because it seems like some of game creators/designers are Filipino!) I didn’t expect to be so hooked on the game that I played it for six hours straight! I actually slept at 3 am (yawn!), and as I drifted off, I could still imagine little eyeballs bouncing along to the tribal-infused beats.

I found this Patapon poster inspired by the movie 300. So cute!

What games are you hooked on these days? I recommend playing Ravin’ Rabbids for Wii, and Rhythm Heaven for DS. Will you catch the premiere episode of Aaron Stone tonight? If you do, let me know what you think!

Hopelessly hooked,
Mimi 8-}

My Merry Month of May

Thursday, May 28th, 2009

Hi, guys!

Wow, I can’t believe another month has come and gone. I hope you’re all ready for the start of school. As for me, summer classes just ended. Woohoo! Despite being super busy with work and school, I still managed to have some fun and relaxing moments. Here’s a quick look at what went down this month!

1. Tagaytay with the Candy girls. Nothing beats a weekend of bonding with your best gal pals over yummy food and Wii marathons!

-

2. Mother’s Day at House of Wagyu. To celebrate Mother’s Day and my sister Liza’s 21st birthday, my dad treated us to a sumptuous lunch at House of Wagyu in The Podium.

This is the most tender and juicy slab of meat I’ve ever had!

My mom’s mom, Lola Glo and my sister Liza
-

3. Pahiyas Festival at Lucban, Quezon. In celebration of the feast of San Isidro and to thank God for a bountiful harvest, the residents of Lucban decorate their houses with a colorful assortment of fruits, vegetables, and flowers. It was truly a sight to behold!

-

4. David vs. David Concert. Listening to good music performed by two of my favorite artists together with two of my best girls is a great way to get a natural high!

-

5. Bonding with my guy’s nephew Aedrian. It was his first birthday last week. After his birthday party, their family went swimming at a nearby village. There was this fountain of water and Aedrian loved it! He was laughing and smiling the whole time we were there. Soooo cute!

-

6. TNF Trail Run at Sacobia, Clark. It was the most challenging 20-kilometer run ever. Though it took me almost four hours to finish (I actually just walked half the time), I had a blast! Unlike regular road runs, the trail was exciting (lahar-covered ground, rocky terrain, small streams, and uphill climbs) and the views were amazing!

Sunrise at the start of the race

We had to cross this shallow river and walk under that bridge.

Four hours later and still smiling!

What were your merriest moments of May?

Here’s wishing you a joyous June! ;)

Love,
Angel O:)

One’s Never Better Than Two (or Three)

Wednesday, May 27th, 2009

I’ve been listening to the Passion Pit for three days now. I was obsessing over “Little Secrets” because that was the first song I heard (my brother handed over his iPod and made me listen to it). Then, I listened to the other songs on their two albums. When I heard this song, I couldn’t help but think of my friends.

There’s a place in this world
Where people like me are found by people like you
So find a place as this forever divine

Oh yeah you’re the best damn friend that I’ll ever have
You’ll always smile upon me when the seasons bad
You’ll always make me feel best even when I’m blue
You’ll always smile upon me and I’ll smile upon you too

I dedicate this song to all my friends especially to my best-est ones.

Celebrating more than a decade of friendship! (:

What song would you sing to your best friends?

Grateful for great friends,
Macy :macy:

Mia’s Health Kick

Monday, May 25th, 2009

Lately I’ve been feeling the weight of all my junk on my shoulders. And I mean this literally and figuratively. I have piles of junk in the middle of my room and on my desk that have been stressing me out both physically (I find myself constantly having to move stuff around just to make room for more stuff I bring home from work) and mentally (I’m not used to going to sleep at night with a mound of irregular shapes as the last image in my mind’s eye). It doesn’t sound all that distressing, I know, but I’ve always been the type of girl who has everything in her room arranged perpendicularly, and those things that are positioned in angles (like my photo frames), I know exactly how they’re supposed to look, so I freak when the helpers move them a few centimeters. Well I used to. Now I wouldn’t even notice a bomb (or a canister of antimatter) on my desk. It’s that messy. And my closet! I can’t walk around without tripping on paper bags, or knocking down tubes of lip gloss and bottles of perfume.

And then of course there’s my other kind of junk. Junk food. Lots of it. But just recently, I’ve decided enough is enough. I want to make room in my bedroom, in my closet, and in my life for healthier things and healthier choices. Here’s what I’ve been doing so far to Say No to Junk and Yes to Health!
1) Gave away all my big bags of chips to my guy.
2) Gave away my chocolate stash to our handyman’s kids.
3) Cleaned out my closet yesterday (getting rid of shoes and makeup feels so good, it’s therapy!)
4) Started eating a healthy breakfast my mom taught me to make. You won’t believe how yummy it is!

5) Shopped less, worked out more. This is me after attempting to do one too many crunches and abdominal leg raises, hehe. Can you say Red in the Face?

I have yet to tackle the junk on my desk and in the middle of my room, but for now I’m starting to feel much, much better and healthier. Am finally getting it—that it’s all about the little choices you make every day that make a big diff in your life. :)

Sweaty bangs, big smile!

Filled With Glee

Friday, May 22nd, 2009

I’ll let you in on another secret of mine. I tried out for our High School Glee Club, but failed miserably and didn’t make the cut. To this day, I don’t know why I didn’t pass, but I have some theories:
1) I wasn’t confident enough during the tryouts (it seemed like the beating of my heart was louder than my voice!)
2) I didn’t have a big range then (I’m an alto through and through!)
3) I absolutely did NOT want to sing the Regine Velasquez song they requested. Would they have wanted to hear a Danny Gokey “Dream On” screech from me? I certainly did not and still do not know how to birit.

Why am I sharing my horrendous high school experience with you? This is actually my slick segue to a cool new show called Glee! (I write it with a ! because it’s THAT awesome.) I was able to watch the first episode last night and I was impressed.

To start off, the cast is amazing. They’re relatively fresh faces with voices that could give American Idol contestants a run for their money. Speaking of AI, one of the actresses actually auditioned for the show but didn’t make the cut. Also, two of the lead girls are from the hit Broadway show Spring Awakening, while two of the older actresses both appeared Heroes. (Just interesting bits of trivia for you.)

The show is intriguing because it reminds me of High School Musical minus the signature Disney saccharine sweetness (imagine the movie Election with song-and-dance numbers). Glee is all about ambitious high school stereotypes—the hot jock, the popular cheerleader, the gay fashionista, the talented outcast, etc.—trying to make their own marks in the world. Throw in a bunch of zany teachers and you’re in for a fun ride!

And then there are the songs… In the first episode alone, they managed to showcase Les Miserables’s “On My Own,” Grease’s “You’re the One That I Want,” and Amy Winehouse’s “Rehab.” A cast member says they’ll even be performing Beyonce’s “Single Ladies” in a future ep, and I honestly can’t wait to see that!

The only downside to seeing Glee is that the succeeding episodes will be airing in September pa. :(( I don’t know if I’ll be able to wait that long!

Aside from Glee, I’m actually looking forward to watching Vampire Diaries (which I wrote about in our May Gossip Girl page, so check that out!). Can’t wait to see Ian Somerhalder (left) playing a vampire baddie! I’m so looking forward to seeing his intense baby blues penetrate the screens once again…
