Certified Stage Aunt
Thursday, October 23rd, 2008I know I’ve talked about my nephew Jared so many times before, but could you indulge me and let me brag about him again?
You see, last week, I had the pleasure of seeing him portray a Spanish boy for their United Nations’ Day celebration. I was so excited because it was the first time I was going to see him perform in school.
I love how the outfit turned out because I helped my sister look for different Spanish costumes online. I was leaning towards the Zorro or El Matador get-up, but we decided this would be easier to make. (See photos.) Jared’s outfit became a group project because my mom and aunt helped sew the trimmings on the collar, sleeve, and pants. As for the funky gold-trimmed hat, my sister made it from scratch. Don’t you think it looks awesome?

Jared with his teachers and classmates

Jared and E-e (a name I came up with so that he could say it as a baby; it’s short for Auntie Mimi)
When the program started, my sister was a little worried because all the other kids didn’t want to speak in front of the audience. Jared was the sixth in line so she was nervous whether Jared would suddenly copy the others. In the end, he impressed us all by delivering his speech flawlessly. Mukhang mana sa tita. Haha! See the video for yourself…
Ola! Soy Jare
Aside from sharing facts about his country, the class also danced to the beat of two songs. At one point, Jared even got carried away and started wiggling his butt. Haha, so cute!
Top of the World
When I’m sad or mad, going through old photos or videos of Jared would instantly lift my spirits. The best picker-upper would be dropping by my sister’s house and playing with Jared. Being on the receiving end of a big hug and a sloppy kiss is something that’s hard to beat!
Before I go, let me share two more silly snaps I took recently.

Pretending to be a turtle getting a tan (we even had a peg! Haha!)
Always proud to be Jared’s tita,
Mimi
PS: See the LOMOGRAPHICS exhibit beginning tomorrow, October 24, 7 pm at Team Manila (Jupiter St., Makati).

Film School
Wednesday, October 22nd, 2008Have you ever dreamed of getting behind a camera and directing an Oscar-winning movie? Have you ever thought of writing your very own screen play or grabbing the lead role in a major motion picture?
Those dreams can become a reality at the International Academy of Film and Television in Cebu! Here are five reasons why you should go:
1. You can choose from a variety of programs (both long-term and short-term) to hone your skills in filmmaking, performance acting, and more!
2. Because it’s Asia’s Premier Film School, you’ll have classmates and teachers from around the world.

Do cute babies make you smile?
Tuesday, October 21st, 2008If you answered yes, then I think you’ll like this entry. I’m feeling a bit under the weather today (my eyes are tearing up as I write this, I have a bottle of water and a pack of tissues on my desk, and I sneeze every five minutes or so—not very attractive), so let me make this post quick. Just wanted to share with you photos of my nephew Cisco that I took over the weekend. He’s four and a half months old now, and I love how he’s such a cheerful little boy. He smiles at you the minute he wakes up from a nap, and I like how I can make him laugh by making silly faces and kissy sounds and saying, “What’s wrong, baby?” over and over again when he gets cranky (he laughs just like Ernie from Sesame Street!). He’s mostly well-behaved in public (we can bring him to mass and to the mall, and he likes being driven around in the family van), except when it’s crowded and noisy. And, he looks adorable in everything he wears! I can’t wait for him to grow up and start talking and running around!

Outside Sta. Teresita Church last Saturday, after my parents’ renewal of vows for their 25th wedding anniversary.

Starting to get stressed. We were having dinner, and he didn’t like the crowded place and noisy people.

Sunday morning swimming with his Daddy at the pool in Legend Villas.

Trying to get out of the high chair in C2 in Power Plant. Haha!
Big hugs,
Marla

Mia Still Loves Buon Giorno!
Monday, October 20th, 2008
Ever since I had dinner in Buon Giorno! in Tagaytay, I’ve been craving their yummy risotto. Good thing Candy Girl K commented on my blog and tipped me off about a nearby branch, along Shaw. I wasn’t expecting it to be as lovely as their Tagaytay branch, so I was delighted when I saw that it was pretty and cozy in its own right. It’s located in a park-like area called Liberty Center, and has just the right blend of casual posh. (the photo above is a detail from the mural behind my booth)

We sat in a plush corner booth, and I wasted no time in ordering the veggie risotto, while my guy had the chicken counterpart. Creamy, buttery, yummy, warm and absolutely delicious—both were better than I remembered.

Double Delight
Friday, October 17th, 2008I’m not a big fan of Rihanna nor am I crazy about Chris Brown, but when I found out this explosive R&B couple (are they or aren’t they?) are heading to Manila, I knew I just had to watch them live!
The biggest concert of the year (well, maybe second to the E-heads bash!) is set to happen on Sunday, November 16, 8 pm at the Fort Open Grounds, Taguig. This gives you about a month to save up for the tickets, but if you have the moolah to buy your tickets early, then that’s even better! Ticketworld is offering early bird promo tickets until October 31! Check out the original prices and the discounted prices below. My friends and I bought the gold tickets, while lucky Roch snagged platinum tickets from her mom.
