Cruise Control
Thursday, August 21st, 2008It’s been a long time since I last cruised the streets on a bicycle, so when my aunt invited us to invade their village’s bike path, my text reply was: M SO THER!
The glitch? I had no bike.
So I ended up borrowing my driver’s rickety old bike that had no brakes at all. Other than navigating the streets brake-less, I also had to worry about biking alongside my three-year-old nephew. Imagine him trying to race me on a very concrete road (read: super gaspang) with his trusty Lightning McQueen bicycle.
The afternoon was filled with sun and smiles… until two casualties struck!

A Pretty Pink Package
Wednesday, August 20th, 2008As a kid, I remember looking forward to Christmas, because my Kuya and I would have stockings full of goodies. I also loved birthday parties, because there was always cake and ice cream. And of course, lots of gifts to open. (:
As I grew older, though, birthdays meant spaghetti, or sometimes, a cake. Haha! There was really not many gifts and usually, my parents would just give me money to spend for shopping, or to get whatever I liked. Christmas wasn’t really about opening gifts, either. My mom would just give us shopping money so we could buy each other “gifts.” d:
So whenever I get something for my birthday or for Christmas from other people, I seriously get thrilled. I love opening whatever it is. It makes me remember how much fun it was when I was a kid.
So just last week, a package arrived for me. I’ve been waiting for it for more than an a month, and I was scared that it might have gotten lost already. O: My mom’s sister in Canada heard that I’ve been pining for this beautiful pink mixer. I told her, one day, I’d save up enough money to give it to myself as a gift. Then she told me that she’d buy it for me. She said, “Consider it my investment in your business.” I couldn’t sit still! I WAS IN LOVE WITH THIS MIXER!

Top Threes
Tuesday, August 19th, 2008Hi, Candy Girls!
Here are three sets of three things that have been making me happy these days. Leave a comment and give me your top threes too!
Three current fave songs:
1. “Hit the Heartbrakes” by Black Kids
2. “Life After Love” by Low vs Diamond
3. “Crush” by David Archuleta (heehee!)

Three things I did over the long weekend:
1. Gave a workshop to the newsletter staff of Mount Carmel Montessori Center in Nueva Ecija. It was probably the most fun workshop I’ve given so far. We played a few rounds of Taboo, and the guesses were hilarious!
2. Caught the pilot episode of Lipgloss on TV 5. It was…interesting. Haha.
3. Watched Wall-E with my family. It wasn’t as touching as Finding Nemo, or as exciting as The Incredibles, but it’s definitely worth seeing.

Sense and Sydney-bilities
Friday, August 15th, 2008Common sense was absent when I decided to head to Australia in the dead of winter. Australia is all about the sun and the surf, but the considerably cheaper airfare, my aunt’s post-World Youth Day schedule, and my brother’s invite forced me to make a snap decision. And so, I applied for a visa, booked a flight, and flew to Sydney late July.

That’s my sis-in-law Kai, my Aunt Lilian, my bro Men, and I in front of the Opera House keeping warm in layers of clothing.
I haven’t seen my brother for over a year (my sis-in-law even longer). And during my stay, I discovered that I really missed hugging his bear-y big frame, laughing with him over the silliest things (watching Summer Heights High was a blast! “Am I hot?â€), beating him at video games (so long as it involved singing, he was dead), and enjoying a comfortable silence while he drove and I sat on the passenger’s seat.

My brother and I go crazy by the Luna Park entrance.

Underwater World
Thursday, August 14th, 2008Though I’ve been climbing mountains and reaching for higher ground for the past few years, I’ve always held a deep fascination for creatures that dwell in the sea. I love snorkeling and I’ve gone on a few intro dives before and it just amazes me how there’s a whole other world underwater.
Last year, I took you on my swimming adventure with the whale sharks of Donsol, Sorsogon. This time, allow me to show you the wonders of Moalboal, Cebu!
Here we have a bed of beautiful corals and sea anemone.
