Transformations
Thursday, July 31st, 2008Hi, Candy girls!
I’ve been with Candy for more than three years now and I can say I’ve met and interviewed a lot of interesting people—from celebrities, athletes, and cuties, to amazing teens with heartbreaking stories. It never ceases to amaze me how some people have already accomplished so much at such a young age and how I can learn something from them, even if they are younger than me. Each of them has left an imprint in my heart. <3
One such person is this month’s cover girl, Maxene Magalona. As she and I talked, I realized what a simple and humble person she is, unlike some young actors and actresses in showbiz. When she became Candy’s cover girl in 2001, she was still starting out in the business and she still had so much to learn. But today, seven years later, she’s transformed into a young lady with so many important realizations (which you can read in the August ish!).

Fulfillment with Daughtry
Wednesday, July 30th, 2008For the past few weeks, I’ve been working my ass off for the Meet and Greet Daughtry promo. It wasn’t for Candymag.com alone but also for our sister sites as well. Eastwood City’s PR contacted me about the tie-up and the boss asked me to be in-charge. What a big responsibility it was! I have to follow up with the partners, discuss mechanics with the team, come up with the questions for the promo, draw winners and contact them one by one. The stress was overwhelming but thinking that the winners will get a chance to meet the band in the flesh makes me a little giddy.
A day before the concert, we were invited to the band’s press conference held at Shanghai Bistro in Eastwood City. We were asked to be there early since we have an exclusive one-on-one interview with Daughtry (check it out on Candy TV because we’ll be putting it up soon). Imagine? A one-on-one interview with a foreign band?! Wow! The thought of it just made me stutter. The press con started a bit late than expected so the interview was moved after the press con. Since I’m with 2 other people from our sister sites, I managed to take pictures, the other to take videos and the other to be the one to ask questions. I didn’t bother to volunteer and be the one to ask questions because I might just end up staring at them haha! Taking their pictures was more than enough for me. The interview was brief but they gave great answers. They were so nice and cheerful considering they just arrived that same day with so little time to rest.

So who hasn't heard of Ramon Bautista? When he pulls into the parking lot of the UP MassCom building and steps out of his car one rainy afternoon in May, Candy Girls Macy, Micah, and I take in his professor outfit (long-sleeved polo, slacks, black leather shoes) and goofy smile, look at each other and think, "OMG, it's really him."
He says hi to us, shakes our hands, apologizes for being a few minutes late, and sits down for the interview with summer intern Reggie. And although he is much less wacky and much more subdued in person than he is on MTV hit The Ramon Bautista Show, we find ourselves laughing the whole time, wishing all interviews can be as fun and breezy as this one. Before we head home, he grins at us and says, "Ang galing. Mukha talaga kayong Candy. Ako kasi mukhang National Geographic eh." Hahaha!
Some excerpts:
Why did you decide to become a teacher?
I want to return something to my school and to the Filipino youth. It’s not a choice, actually, it’s more like a responsibility. Nice. And all those cheesy stuff teachers say.
Did your students’ treatment of you change when you shot to national stardom?
No, I have always been famous. Some of them know me from Strangebrew, and they'd go, “Hey, you’re the sirena and the diwata!” And I'd say, “Yeah, and I’m your teacher, I have your class card, so don’t laugh. And listen to me while I talk.” But most of them, they don’t watch cable TV anyway, or at least they claim, “I’m too good for TV, I don’t watch TV. I just read books,” so they try to pretend that they haven’t heard of me.

Mia’s Kiddie High
Monday, July 28th, 2008I’ve always loved kiddie parties because of the festive atmosphere and the awesome treats. So when my best friend from high school threw a baptismal party for her first baby this weekend, I was delighted to see she went all out.
They had the cutest bunny cake from Marta’s, and super yummy chocolate cupcakes for us to bring home.

Express Yourself
Friday, July 25th, 2008Hi, Candy girls!
Yesterday, Mia, Marla, Steph, Macy, and I went to a pretty awesome event at Mag:net Cafe in Bonifacio High Street. It was the launch of JanSport's Graphic Remix line, which celebrates the Indie community's passion for creativity, originality and individuality.
As soon as we entered, we saw some guys doodling on a huge white canvas. Who knew that just a few minutes later, it would turn into this amazing work of art?
