Changing Zip Codes
Friday, May 30th, 2008Beginning Monday, the Candy team as well as the other Summit titles you know and love (WITCH, Seventeen, Total Girl, K-Zone, etc.) will be residing in a totally new place a few blocks away from Robinsons Galleria. ;_;
Here’s Dra. Jennie (haha!) with her lemon-scented gloves and I (no gloves here. Lagot! Germs.) cleaning up and packing away stuff yesterday. Our office looks like a big storage room with all the boxes getting moved to the new area or the warehouse.
Margaux was the last person who celebrated her birthday in our old home. We’ll really miss staying in our secluded corner where we get to eat, make noise, and watch Gossip Girl on lunch breaks. I’ll also miss my favorite Galleria spots like Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf, Dorothy Perkins, Piadina, and Mr. Choi. (Good thing the last spot is also at Robinsons Pioneer!)
If you won a prize or have any Candy-related quessies, feel free to call our new trunk line at 451-8888. More importantly, please address all your letters to:
CANDY
c/o Summit Media
6/F Robinsons Cybergate Center Tower 3,
Robinsons Pioneer Complex, Pioneer St.,
Mandaluyong City 1550
Looking forward to dressing up my new area come Monday,
Mimi

The Click Five is Back!
Thursday, May 29th, 2008Last night, Marla, Macy, Mimi, Bea, and I got a chance to attend The Click Five’s press conference. It’s their second time here (Marla and I got a chance to meet them last year too!) and this time, they’re having a really big concert in Araneta!
Here are some of my fave snaps (from the many, many photos we took) from last night!

That’s Marla and Macy (with host Sam YG in the background), Mimi, me, and COC8/intern Bea. We were all eagerly anticipating the band’s arrival!

Meet The Click Five: Joe on lead guitars, cutie Kyle on vocals, Ben on Keyboards, Ethan on bass, and my love Joey on drums! <3

Here’s our photo “with the band”. Hehehe.
So, are you watching the concert this Friday, May 30, at the Araneta Coliseum? (You might just see Marla and her sister there!) Go, go, go!
For more band updates, check out their friendster site!
Psyched about TC5,
Angel

My Life in Lists
Wednesday, May 28th, 2008When I run out of things to write about, a surefire way to get my hands typing is to start a list. I love making lists—wish lists, favorites, to-do lists, any kind of list! So today, I shall give you a random list of things that happened to me the past few days.
- Got interviewed because of the exhibit at Team Manila. Steph was my dutiful buddy, documenting every single thing (I swear, I keep laughing when I watch the numerous video clips she took of me!). Thanks, Stephie!

- Went to the beach with my other department (I’m half-Candy, half-Digital, in case you didn’t already know!). It was an awesome two-day trip.
- Met up with my friends from my old workplace for dinner at one of our favorite places to eat in when we were still working there. Whenever I go back there, I wonder what did I ever see in that place that I liked so much? But when the sisig and the calamares come out, I remember why.

- Finished 4 rolls of film and I’m waiting for my CD from Digiprint. Can’t wait to see my pictures!
- Packed up all my stuff into a tiny box ready for transfer to our new office! We’ve been waiting for this for a month or so, and it’s actually happening. Next week, I will be seated in a brand new seat with a fancy new work space with magnetic boards!
- Watched the season finale of Grey’s Anatomy. I stopped being a fan after Burke left the show (it just wasn’t the same!), but in the middle of this season, things finally started picking up! And well, what do you know, I’m no MerDer fan, but the finale was one for the books.
Have you watched it? What did you think of the MerDer scene at the end?
- Looking forward to another beach trip this weekend, finishing the fourth and final book of the Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants (thanks for lending your book to me, Stephie!), and baking some muffins.
How about you? Why don’t you make a list, too?
Listaholic,
Macy :macy:

Chance Encounters
Tuesday, May 27th, 2008Dear Candy Girls,
I’ve always loved short stories. I love reading them because they leave so much room for mystery, and unlike most novels, they often leave you wondering what would happen after you take in the very last word. There are no concrete endings, and questions are often left unanswered. It is the fact that you are left hanging—that you spend hours thinking about the possibilities beyond the final chapter—that I find so beautiful. I love writing them too because working on novels often makes me too attached to my characters, and I often find myself worrying too much about the long-term consequences of their actions. Short stories give me more freedom to play around with the plot because what happens next is up to the readers’ imagination. The one I love most, “Friends Forever, and Other Cliches,” took place in a single day, and I’m quite proud of it. I wrote it for my college thesis, and every time I read it, my heart goes out the characters and I wonder how I conjured up that much emotion (or that much teenage angst) to write it. Remind me to share it with you girls someday.
In the meantime, let me point you to my favorite story of all time. It’s called “On Seeing the 100% Perfect Girl One Beautiful April Morning,” and it’s by one of my favorite writers, Haruki Murakami. I love how simple yet profound it is, and how it deals with something I’ve always been fascinated about—the romance that blossoms between total strangers (think Before Sunrise and Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist). There’s a line that goes, “Possibility knocks on the door to my heart,” and I think it’s pure genius. Read it here and let me know what you think. I hope you end up liking it as much as I do!
Big hugs,
Marla :penguin:

Mia Loves Topshop
Monday, May 26th, 2008The first thing I do when I get to my desk is to go through the day’s new stack of press invites and press kits. It’s usually pretty ho-hum—except this one time. A tiny white envelope caught my eye. It looked like a party invite from a friend, so I wasted no time in opening it. And upon seeing the first three words on top, my day was instantly brighter:
Topshop Shopping Party!
Woohoo! I’ve always been a fan of the brand because I love how they mix old with new, trendy with basic, and fancy with casual. But going on a Topshop shopping spree isn’t really something I can afford. But a Topshop Shopping Party!? Well, I can’t say no to that can I? It’s only right that I shop at a shopping party!
So that’s just what I did one heady, happy, and giddy Friday night at their newest branch in Greenbelt 3. I was able to whittle down my armful of pieces with potential to just 4. I got 3 dresses and a top—my faves are a black one-shoulder party dress with tiny Swiss dots in a creamy butter hue, and a navy dress with tiny multi-colored clovers dotted on it that look like flowers from afar.
Here are some of my fave looks from their new lineup…

What about you? Have you hit the Topshop Sale? Would love to hear about your finds!
