The stories pictures tell

A picture paints a thousand words.

So imagine my thrill when my pictures got included in an exhibit at Team Manila for lomographers? I take pictures because it makes me happy, but never in this lifetime had I imagined I’d actually be part of an exhibit!

Awesome Sunny Happiness
Tuesday, April 29th, 2008Hi, Candy Girls!
Last week, I soaked up the Boracay sun for NESTEA Beach 2008. It was so much fun—NESTEA made sure the games, events, and performances kept everyone on their toes—and I have so much kwento about the whole experience, but photos of my trip’s highlights will just have to do for this blog post.

I stayed at the beautiful Boracay Mandarin. My bed had a fit-for-a-princess canopy and the bathroom was made mostly of glass!

Here I am watching the volleyball games with other Summit girls Iza and Alona.

Mia’s Damaso Day
Monday, April 28th, 2008I hit Greenbelt 5 with the Candy Crew a few weeks ago, and Roch and Angel were pointing out all the cool restos. Among them, it was Damaso that quickly piqued my interest. And that’s where I went one recent Sunday afternoon.
Love:
-The Filipiniana Noli and El Fili theme. The dishes’ names are playful riffs on the novels’ characters, and the decor is a nice mix of Now and Then.
-The pasta. The one I had was quite filling (good serving) and pretty tasty.
-The desserts. I had a hard time choosing just one (I wanted 3!), but I am trying to be more healthy after all, so I settled on the Wicked Simoun. I’ve said this about my dog and I’ll say it about this dessert: Bad boys can be oh-so good!
Delight:
-The toasted ensaimada and hot chocolate. Never has a plain-sounding dish tasted this gooooood. I singed my tongue trying to down the hot choc because I wanted all of it right away. Greedy? Yup. Worth it? Definitely.
Could be better:
-Tubig ni Maria Clara. It was quite refreshing—water with cucumber and ginger—but it had a strange aftertaste I wasn’t too crazy about. But that’s just me.
-The prices. The place is comfy and cozy, but the food’s a bit pricey. Not for pigging out then

Fresh Water and Pizza Treats
Friday, April 25th, 2008Hey there, girls! Your friendly interns Jenny and Amanda here. What a busy two days we’ve had! We attended two events and had loads of fun. Here’s what happened:
Day 5
UNICEF & SM’s Drink for 2 Campaign
It’s a hot summer day, and you are sweating like a pig. The heat is rising from the floor, and your mouth is just so dry. What you would like most is a glass of clean, fresh, ice-cold water. So you walk the few steps to your fridge and grab yourself a glass.
Miles away, two children are experiencing the same summer heat. They’re sweating all over, just like you. Their mouths are dry, just like yours. But unlike you, it takes more than a few steps for them to get their glass of water. And when they do get it, it isn’t even clean!
Surely, if you had a chance to give those kids some of your water to drink, you would. Well, now you do have a chance. Thanks to SM and UNICEF’s Drink for 2 campaign.
Last Tuesday, we attended their event, which launched the project that would benefit many children in Masbate. There, we learned about the situations of these kids . It’s pretty ironic that an island surrounded by water on all sides would have a hard time finding fresh, clean water to drink and bathe in! This is the situation that SM and UNICEF would like to address with the Drink for 2 campaign.
Basically, the campaign gives the children fresh, clean water. For every bottle of SM drinking water sold, two children get clean water for one day. So there you go girls, there’s your chance to help. It takes just that one bottle of water to save two kids. Let’s all do our part and help any way we can!

Drink for 2!

10 Things I Hate About Men
Thursday, April 24th, 2008Allow me to share 10 special reasons why I would love to hate MEN… but I just can’t!
1) He eats faster than I do (1 pizza slice for me = 2 slices for him). But then again, that means fewer calories for me.
2) I’m quite a techie, but I hate to admit he’s super smarter than me when it comes to gadgets and computers. I turn to him when I need answers on how to crack a code or what have you.
3) He cries whenever he feels like it, even if it means sobbing while driving (and secretly scaring me to death!).
4) Mush is secretly his middle name. He loves cheesy ‘80s love songs and even has compiled CDs of them! His fave female artists are Sade and Mariah Carey.
5) He has extra warm arms and hands. But they’re the right temperature when I’m feeling cold in the cinema.
6) Horror movies are never the same when viewed with him. His sudden shock-inducing movements add spice to an otherwise cliché gory flick.
7) He’s up for anything. Anything includes turning into a makeup model (aka my little cousin’s guinea pig) then proceeding to Mini Stop to show off his glamorous new look!
8) Sports is not exactly his area of expertise, but he makes up for it by giving 101%… even if it means falling across a slippery lane while shadow bowling!
9) He knows which buttons to push to annoy me, but he’s even better at making me laugh out loud when he’s in a silly state.
10) The fact that he lives a continent away. Despite the time difference and the long busy days, he still manages to stay in touch.
If you’ve noticed, I haven’t used the plural form in my blog entry. That’s because I’m only talking about one special person in particular, my brother Men.

Then and Now: An old tattered picture of my siblings having fun at Tagaytay’s Picnic Grove. Fast forward to Men’s birthday party last year.
From the Candy team and the peeps at home who love you soooooooo, soooooooo much: Happy birthday! May God shower you with all the gifts you need, and may our love travel the distance and envelope you in a big, squishy bear hug.
Hope to see you and Kai in a couple of months…
MWAH!
Mimi
