Happiness is…

Thursday, February 21st, 2008
by macy

The rules are easy, just post 10 things that recently made you happy! Then tag 10 people and force them to post this memo on their blogs.

  1. My daddy and his successful quest for new shoes.
  2. Spending time with my three brothers.
  3. Watching an awesome movie on Valentine's day with a few of my friends and a bucket of barbecue popcorn.
  4. Ordering stuff (skimmers, sandals, lomo cameras!) that will arrive in April. I bet I'll forget all about it and I'll be surprised to get them then.
  5. Cupcakes!!! <3
  6. Free film for my growing stash. My lomo cams will be happy.
  7. A cute pink tumbler from my best friend to replace my water bottle that was just a corporate giveaway. Ha ha!
  8. New music to listen to on my way to work, at work, and going home. Currently obsessing over Juno's OST and Kate Nash's "Merry Happy."
  9. Chatting with my cousins from Canada before they go to school just when I'm about to go home.
  10. Getting to talk to my mom any time of the day.

What about you, Candy girls? What has made you happy recently? I'm tagging all of you! ;)

Happiness is a choice,
Macy

P.S.
Don't forget to log on to ChitChat tomorrow at 7pm to get a chance to talk with our Jan-Feb 2008 cover girl Cheska Ortega! It's going to be fun!

Treats for the Sweets

Wednesday, February 20th, 2008

Last Monday, the Candy girls were given a special lunch buffet at Bocarino's in Renaissances Hotel in Makati. When Mia texted us about it last Friday, Macy and I were like "Wow! It's a lunch buffet!". I purposely didn't eat breakfast so I can eat a lot for lunch. Haha! The food was really good! I specially love their Salmon Sashimi. It was so fresh and yummy! Jennie and I even thought of getting some more of that yummy sashimi after the main course but we were too full to eat more. We just indulged ourselves with the desserts they have.  I got one of each dessert that has chocolate in it haha! I was too overwhelmed I wasn't able to finish my plate. Here are some snappies we took during our lunch.

Here's Macy's plate of desserts. Marble Cheesecake, Creme Brulee, Pistacio White Mousse and Tiramisu.

It's me by the sign. :P

By the elevator. :D

I think I ate too much that day I didn't bother eating dinner anymore. It was the first time after weeks of having no appetite to eat to just indulge myself with great food. Actually, the food was just a plus. The company of these girls is really the reason why this lunch was sumptuous. :D

Can't get enough sweets,
Roch <3

The Love Letter

Tuesday, February 19th, 2008
by marla

Have you ever received a letter so beautiful and so touching that you just want to share it with the whole world? I did, last week. :) The day after Hearts' Day, my friend Maris and I met up for our annual Valentine dinner. It's been our little tradition for years now, and we were really excited. We ate at Kimono Ken (we're always trying out new Japanese places together—she's half-Jap, and I'm…just a sucker for Jap food), where they serve the best Yakisoba and the biggest California maki ever. Before she dropped me off, she gave me my birthday/Christmas/Valentine presents: a book (it's called The Fourth Bear and looks really interesting), a rosary from France, and a card.

When I got home, I opened the envelope. In front, it says, "I know you so well that I see in you a strength you never even knew you had." Inside, it reads, "That's why I know that even when you get the worst of it, you can still make the best of it!" I found it very sweet. But what really made me cry was what she herself wrote:

"You have always been one of the first people I'd think of when I decide on things: 'What would Marley do if she were here?' And I guess that's partly because no matter how different our interests often are, the basic truth that we are almost sisters always lies in the background of our lives. I have always respected your opinion, and I think I always will. I do hope that in some small way I have let you know this before, and have done the same for you at one time or another. I don't know what I'd do if I didn't have you as my friend, Marley…I would probably have gone crazy by now."

I felt so loved after reading it, and I texted her immediately to tell her that our friendship is one of the most wonderful things in my life. And it truly is. :) So here I am, sharing her message with all you Candy girls out there. Because good friends—the ones who stick with you no matter what—make all the difference in the world. :)

Big hugs,
Marla

Mia’s Sad Goodbye

Monday, February 18th, 2008
by mia

I've been feeling pretty down this past week for two reasons: 1) I'm about to get my period and am feeling all hormonal and weepy; and 2) My bro was all set to leave on the 14th and won't be back till late December (he works on a cruise ship and leaves for months at a time). I started out having a hard time sleeping last Monday without knowing why, and then by the time Wednesday night rolled around, I knew full well, and all I could do was watch him pack and follow him all over the house like a puppy dog. Frown

I know I'm being a tad melodramatic, but here's the thing: all my other brothers have places of their own, and both my sisters don't even live in Manila, so it's really just Chip and me at home, with the 'rents. It's a lot like having a built-in boy bud who's there for you 24/7. Whenever we find new sweet treats to try, we can't wait to bring them home and split the stash with each other. Whenever I'm psyched for an all-out DVD Night, he's ready with the microwave popcorn and Haagen Dazs ice cream. New book shop that opened just around the corner? No prob, he'll drive me there and check out the shelves as well. Got a monster craving for Red Ribbon's lasagna? One text, and he'll buy it for me on his way home. He even calls sometimes just to ask what I want to eat. Dying to spend a Sunday at the mall? He'll take me there and make a day of it, complete with dinner and dessert. He loves playing with Bugsy and Mickey just as much as I do, and he stays up late almost as often as I do, too. So it's pretty depressing for me to think that for the rest of the year, I'll never wake up to a sweet surprise on my spot at the breakfast table, or have someone to bug right in the next room when I can't sleep.

Strangely enough, I didn't shed a single tear when we all piled out of the house and walked him to the car at 4 in the morning to say goodbye. I was sulking and trying very hard not to cry, and for the first time in my life, I actually succeeded in holding back my tears. But a lot of good that feat did me, because here I am right now, crying buckets. My dogs are actually bothered by how hard I'm crying, and Mickey keeps kissing me and looking at me with his huge eyes. Cry

So here's hoping this year will go by as quickly as last year, and before I know it, it'll be the holidays again, and I'll be busy welcoming home my sisters and my bro. Smile

Juno’s Fangirls

Friday, February 15th, 2008
by mimi

I had a V-Day date with Marla, Macy, and Steph last night. We watched Juno and we all enjoyed it immensely. The dialogue was witty yet sincere, there were so many touching moments, and the actors didn’t seem like they were acting at all. I’ve always liked Michael Cera because he always plays naive, dorky, but loveable characters (see Arrested Development and Superbad). I love how those tiny, golden yellow running shorts look on his lanky legs (haha!), and I totally agree with Juno that he’s a really cool guy. Smile I must say that Juno (played by the equally talented Ellen Page) is spunky with a sharp wit. I loved the way she ultimately handled her pregnancy (maybe finding out that unborn babies had fingernails freaked her out? Haha!) and the baby's adoption.

Another thing we loved about the movie were the songs. Very indie but quirky. There’s one in particular called “Anyone Else But You” that Bleeker and Juno sing at the end. It’s originally by The Moldy Peaches. Give it a spin if you find it. The lyrics below are based on the movie version.

Guy: You're a part-time lover and a full-time friend
The monkey on you're back is the latest trend
I don't see what anyone can see, in anyone else but you

Girl: Here is the church and here is the steeple
We sure are cute for two ugly people
I don't see what anyone can see, in anyone else but you

Guy: We both have shiny happy fits of rage
You want more fans, you want more stage
I don't see what anyone can see, in anyone else but you

Girl: You’re always trying to keep it real
And I'm in love with how you feel
I don't see what anyone can see, in anyone else but you

Guy: I kiss you on the brain in the shadow of a train
I kiss you all starry eyed, my body's swing from side to side
I don't see what anyone can see, in anyone else but you

Girl: The pebbles forgive me, the trees forgive me
So why can't you forgive me?
I don't see what anyone can see, in anyone else but you

Both:
Du du du du du du dudu
Du du du du du du dudu
Du du du du du du dudu du
I don't see what anyone can see, in anyone else but you

Go watch Juno with your gal pals. I’m sure you’ll like it!
Mimi

PS: Just want to give a shout-out to one of my best-est buddies, Blanche. Advance happy birthday, girl!!! Kiss
