Snaps from Baguio

Wednesday, January 23rd, 2008
by macy

A few months ago, Marla and I went up to Baguio to witness Sam's induction as DepEd's Role Model and Youth Spokesperson. If you have your January-February issue, you've probably read about the things we learned while we were there (if not, flip to page 90).

I just thought I'd share a few more snaps from the trip:

Tourist-y shots of Marla and Macy

When Marla and I were staying at the rustic Teachers Camp, we just had to take a picture. We always joke around about being grannies—not staying up late to party, we like staying at home instead, heh. We even took a pic on sepia setting. Ha ha! We have lots of non-tourist-y photos, but we won't pose those. :P

With Sam Concepcion at Oh My Gulay!

We got to hang out with Sam Concepcion in Oh My Gulay!, this artists' café along Session Road. The weather was just perfect while we were in Baguio. Look at how pretty that sky is!

Breakfast in Choco-late de Batirol

The highlight of this trip for me was… the food! This was during our last breakfast stop in Choco-late de Batirol. I super loved my Hot Choco Orange and the suman that Marla and I shared.

I can't wait to go back to Baguio and go to all the places that we "discovered" from our trip. How about you? Know of any secret haunts that you found unexpectedly when you went on vacation? Share them with us!

In need of a vacation,
Macy

Stay Tuned!

This morning, Angel, Mimi and I headed to Makati Shang for HBO's press briefing, where we were told about all the cool stuff this channel has in store for everyone in 2008.

After a scrumptious lunch (we loved the fried fish with pineapple chili sauce, the baked pudding, and the chocolate cake), Caroline of HBO Asia gave us first dibs on their program lineup for this year. Some of the movies we were excited to hear about were:

Oscar-acclaimed Happy Feet and The Prestige (I love Christian Bale!).

Big blockbusters Spider-Man 3, 300, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, and Transformers. These hits will all premiere on a Sunday night, and will be shown at various times within the same week.

Plus, I'm so glad two of my favorite movies are showing this year. I loved Stranger than Fiction because I have a soft spot for flicks about writing (the most recent one I saw was Shortcut to Happiness), while Music and Lyrics is special for the Candy Team because we all saw it together last Valentine's Day. :)

Aside from staying tuned to HBO, you guys should also check out the enchanced hboasia.com, where you can input movie sched reminders on your Yahoo! and Google calendars, update yourself on the movies for that day on their HBO Widget, and play the interactive Movie Buff game on Facebook.

Thank you, HBO, for bringing the best of Hollywood to the Philippines! ;)

Big hugs,
Marla

Mia’s Happy Anniversary

Monday, January 21st, 2008
by mia

Call me mushy, but I'm actually the sort of girl who has a list in her diary of all the anniversary dates she's had with her guy. I love looking back on each date and trying to remember all the little details—my worst fashion faux pas, his best shirt (I love pink on guys!), my bad makeup (really dark witchy-looking lipstick), and the food we had that day. I like to think each anniversary is better than the last, and it usually is. :)

Just a couple of weeks ago, we celebrated another anniversary, and I was over the moon with anticipation. I had just gotten back from out of town and was super looking forward to seeing him. I went all out and used my new hair treatment (Elséve—it's nice!), my Inner Grace body wash and shimmer lotion (pressies from my best friend, Nash…Beauty Bar has 'em), and a new dress (it's all sweet and girly with puffed sleeves, Swiss dots, and a blue bow). And I spritzed on some Tartine, of course. :)

I was so glad I made an effort to look nice—because we had dinner at this amazing place I fell in love with!

cliff house

It's called Fire Lake Grill and it has an amazing view of the water. It's part of a bunch of restos and cafés (I spied a Café Breton and FIC among others), with a central terrace looking out onto the water. There are flowers everywhere, and lots of lovely white lawn chairs. It was quite chilly that night, and I loved how the weather was so not Muggy Manila.

And the food! They have the yummiest bread ever, and just the kind of rice I like. My guy had steak and I had these really juicy kebabs and veggies. My favorite of course, was the flourless chocolate cake. It had this really delish yet subtle peanut butter filling—it's the perfect touch, really.

choco loco

I loved it so much that I wouldn't mind having next year's date at the exact same place. Actually, come to think of it, next year is way too far away, so I think I'll be dragging my guy there for Valentine's!

Fire Lake Grill is located at Cliff House Tagaytay, along General Emilio Aguinaldo Highway.

Girls’ Night Out

Friday, January 18th, 2008
by mimi

After a stressful but successful shoot out of town, the Candy girls were invited to watch a fun premiere last night. The special screening was held at Podium, so that only meant one thing: SEBASTIAN’S!

Macy and I were excited to eat some of our favorite flavors (her Macadamia White, me Butter Pecan), while the others held back and pretended they were on a diet. Haha! Imagine our surprise when we got to talk to Sebastian’s “maker” in the flesh.

The magical ice cream maker Ian even let us try a new concoction (sorry, the name escapes me at the moment) which involved a frozen cookie ice cream sandwich with fudge in the middle and an outer cocoa layer. Sinful but sooooo yummy! Of course, with that free treat, the others had no choice but to dig in.

Afterwards, we rushed to the cinema to save one whole row for the Candy team. I was so excited because Mae of 20th Century Fox gave me 9 tickets! (I shall forever be grateful, Mae!) Sadly, Margaux couldn’t go so my BFF Blanche took her place. Here’s a fuzzy pic of the team moments before the movie started.

I was really excited to watch this rom-com because: 1) I feel like I’ve known Katherine forever (she was part of one of my fave teen series, Roswell), and 2) I so wanted to see James Marsden finally get the girl. He so deserves it, don’t you think? See James below with his joker-like grin. Totally goofy but sexy at the same time!

The movie was absolutely adorable. I laughed a lot, and cried a bit towards the end. (Methinks Jennie was trying to hold back her tears. Haha! Jen, don’t deny!!!) The bar scene with James and Katherine was hilarious, but my other favorite scene would have to be Katherine showing off the 27 bridesmaid dresses (hence the title of the movie). I couldn’t find the funnier, LOL-inducing outfits to share with you girls (it's better if you see them for yourself), but I must say Katherine manages to look cute in all of them.

The verdict: go watch the movie when it comes out! It’s smart (the dialogue has an ironic edge), it’s entertaining (just looking at Kat's best bud made me giggle), and it’s so not cheesy (even the dance sequences weren’t painful to watch).

Excited to watch 27 Dresses 26 more times,

Mimi

Hey girls! Here are some pictures we took during Dino's celeb chat. We weren't able to take a lot of pics because it was a really busy day for all of us. Enjoy!

Dino gives the Candy team a big warm hug. >:D<

CoC 8 finally meets Dino during their meeting.

Was Dino able to answer all your questions?

He kept on making funny faces for the Candy Cam.

Dino really had fun chatting with all you girls. :P

See you on our next celeb chat!

Love Lots,
