Day in the Life of Candy
Fallen Angels
January 10th, 2008Back in 2004, when I studied in Singapore, I met a girl named Angela Bong. Although she's from Malaysia and I'm from the Philippines, we clicked instantly because we had a lot of things in common. Aside from having the same name, we both loved to eat, laugh at the silliest things, sing, dance, jog, play tennis, and go to church. We called ourselves “The Fallen Angels” because we believed we were Angels sent down from heaven (or when we did something naughty, we would think that maybe we weren’t sent, but banished from heaven! Haha!). In fact, the church we used to attend together in Singapore was called “Church of St. Mary of the Angels.” It was destiny!
Here’s a shot of us then………….. and now!
The last time I saw her was a year ago, when I traveled to Malaysia, but it was only for a short period of time. That’s why I was so thrilled when she decided to visit the Philippines this year! She spent New Year’s Eve with my family and she was so amazed by how festive the Christmas season is here. She loved how people decorated their homes with plenty of colorful lights and scared bad spirits away with fireworks. (In Malaysia, fireworks are banned!)
Here we are watching the neighbors’ fireworks from our balcony.
The next day, we headed for Puerto Galera! The weather was cool, and since there weren’t too many people, we were able to relax at the beach. For two whole days and nights, we swam, snorkeled, ate, sunbathed, and talked till our throats were sore. Here are a few shots from our impromptu pictorial at the beach!
Angela left for Malaysia on Jan. 4 and I felt really sad to see her go. But at the same time, I look forward to the next time our paths will cross again. Besides, I know we can still communicate via e-mail, text, and chat, like we always do. It just goes to show that distance, culture, and race are not barriers for people who consider each other true friends.
And no matter how long it's been since we last saw each other…
Some things just never change.
Happy New Year, Candy girls! I hope the rest of the year will bring you more blessings and exciting surprises.
Love,
Angel

You have super sweet bonding moments with your Angela, Miss Angel. Woohoo!
I can’t agree more that distance (and even culture and race) can never be barriers for people who treat each other as true friends. I have been away from my barkada for two years now and we still have the same bond — which just got stronger. Cheers!
Happy new year, Miss Angel. Have a blast this year!
