Bands, Bands, and more Bands!
Wednesday, November 21st, 2007Yesterday, Macy and I went to Greenbelt 3 for the MTV Staying Alive Music Summit for HIV and AIDS press con. It was hosted by MTV VJs Sib Sibulo and Candy Mag’s October Cover Girl, Andi Manzano.
MTV Staying Alive Music Summit for HIV/AIDs is a massive concert that features the biggest names in the entertainment industry. The event serves as a call for everyone to take a united stand against the ignorance with regards to HIV/AIDS issues. It will be on December 12, 2007 at SM Mall of Asia Complex. Gates will open at 3pm, pre show begins at 4pm and main show starts at 6pm. Local artists are set to perform like Chicosci, Callalily, Sandwich, Barbie Almalbis, Hale, Hilera, Julianne, Kamikazee, Miguel Escueta, Moonstar88, Pupil, Parokya ni Edgar, Rivermaya, Up Dharma Down, Imago and a whole lot more!
Here's how you can get free tickets:
1. MTV will be giving away tickets at SM Malls. Just present any red item at the MTV Music Summit Booth during their mall tours to get a free ticket.

MTV has another surprise for all of us! The band behind the hits "Everything You Want," "You're A God" and "Best I Ever Had" is coming to Manila! Vertical Horizon will have a big concert at the Araneta Coliseum on December 7. Rivermaya will also play and have their first major performance with their new vocalist. What Made My Friday
Tuesday, November 20th, 2007I've always loved Fridays. Over the years, I've come to realize that the anticipation that comes before A Good Thing is sometimes as great as—if not better—than the Good Thing itself. Fridays prove this point perfectly; most of the time, my Fridays are waaay more eventful and exciting than my weekends!
Last Friday was no exception. When I got to the office, Macy (with her pretty outfit and Olive Snook hair) was waiting for the rest of the team with her homebaked choco-chip cookies. Yum! Nothing cheers me up better than chocolate does.
After lunch, Macy, Mimi, and I saw Superbad, which was hilarious. Watch it for a good laugh, but don't expect anything profound. Haha. Oh, and it's rated R so if you're under 18, you might have to wait a few more years. And speaking of waiting, we took this photo in the restroom before the movie started. Enchanted is showing tomorrow and I can't wait to see McDreamy in action!
Before Macy and I headed off to Eastwood for Miguel Escueta's album launch, a very cute lil' boy dropped by to visit—Mimi's nephew Jared! He usually hates me (he pushes me away when I try to hug him and answers all my questions with a resounding "NO!"), but he was in an exceptionally sunny mood that evening and allowed me to carry him. I even got not one, not two, but three kisses from him! When we gave him one of Macy's cookies, he took a bite and exclaimed, "Itshgood!" Isn't he adorable?
I know it's only Tuesday right now, but I'm curious: What do YOU love about Fridays, Candy girls? Let us know!
Looking forward to Friday,
Marla

Mia’s Il Pirata Night
Monday, November 19th, 2007If I could time travel, I'd transport myself into the past, no question. It would be cool to see the future, I'm sure, but I've always had a fascination with bygone eras. I've always been so enamored with history that history class never felt like work to me.
So you can imagine how happy my inner child was when my guy took me to Il Pirata, the Italian resto with a pirate theme. For starters, I looove Italian food. It's totally appetizing but not at all pretentious. I also love how Il Pirata's ambience is family-friendly yet still quite cozy and intimate. And of course, I love the little references here and there that remind you of another time, another world.
I loved their Parma Ham Pizza and Tenderloin Steak, and their Mango Float dessert was quite yummy too!
And an added bonus for canine lovers like myself? They were super nice about letting our chow chow "chaperone" Kelly Belly come inside and stay by our table. These are shots of her while we were lining up at the ATM, waiting for our orders to arrive. She was people-watching and hiding in between my feet!
Il Pirata is located at Eastwood Citywalk, Libis.

Special Pass
Friday, November 16th, 2007What happens when you’ve got a cute toddler by your side? You get VIP access!
My sister celebrated her birthday just this Monday, and after the usual family dinner, we trekked to Krispy Kreme for donuts and coffee. Imagine our surprise when the KK staff offered to let us in their kitchen so that we could make chocolate-sprinkled donuts. Jared needed a little persuasion to enter a strange place and design his own donut, but when I showed him how it was done, he got excited and tried it too.
That’s Jared with his free donut (think he could be a KK endorser some day?), KK’s Jaja and other kitchen hands after our donut adventure (thanks guys!), and me desperately trying to be a baker (think I fooled the customers?).
After we got home, the sugar-high two-year-old treated me to a lights show with his colorful ring lights. Obviously, the snap-happy spirit in me couldn’t resist taking his pictures! It felt like we were in Space Mountain or some dark, magical place where he controlled what I could see. The only thing missing were songs and this would have felt like another Coldplay concert. Haha!
As you can see, Jared is one of my favorite photo subjects. Aside from him, I love taking close-up shots of patterns. Recently, my brother and sister (who reside in Oz) sent us a box full of surprises. I got a bunch of totally rad shirts (YAY!) as well as two über-cute bags. (Thanks soooooo much, Men and Kai!) I couldn’t resist showing them to you guys ‘cause they’re just so Candy!
Excited to have more instant adventures with Jared,
Mimi
PS: YES! magazine's Candice says hi to everyone. She's munching on one of Macy's homebaked treats.

Thursday, November 15th, 2007What’s up Candy girls?
It’s me, Zel from COC7. I just want to share the fun my friend and I had last Saturday at the Nescafe Soundskool Grand Finals held in Ultra. I feel so privileged I got in with a press ID (thanks a lot, Angel!). As a member of the press, I had access to the backstage where all the bands got ready. While waiting for the show to start, we ate because there was a yummy spread prepared for the artists and the media. I couldn’t resist ‘cause everything looked yummeh! Haha! I had fun eating ‘cause the boys of Sponge Cola and Sugarfree were seated right next to us! “What a good start!” I thought.
My friend Dawn joined me in this super cool event! We really had fun!
After eating, we went downstairs to watch the bands perform, but there were no more available seats! We ended up watching from backstage. I watched every band arrive, go up onstage, and perform. It was so cool! You know what to do with situations like this…

“Lougee, can we take a picture?” Hahaha! That’s Lougee from Mojofly.

Aww! Doesn’t Yael look so adorable with his guitar?
![]()
Oh man. Champ is so adorable! I wanna hug him! Hahaha! ;p

Their song is stuck in my head! “Asahan moooo, mula ngayon, pag-ibig ko’y sayooooo.” That’s Aia of Imago.
I wasn’t able to get shots of the band finalists because we were backstage when they performed. They were all great! I promise, you’ll be able to hear their music soon.
Too bad we weren’t able to finish the show.
Whoever the winners are, I’m sure they deserve it!
We also had a press kit and goodies from this rockin’ event. Guess what? A one-year supply of coffee! Hahaha! Joke. After leaving Ultra, we headed to The Fort to watch our friend and his band perform at Mag:net and meet up with some friends.
Hoy, hoy! What tsismis is that? We saw Miggy of Chicosci and their former temporary drummer Macoy of April Morning Skies ;p
I REALLY HAD A BUH-LAAAASSSTT! I’m going to wrap up this blog by saying this: “LET’S ALL SUPPORT LOCAL MUSIC!”
Still kickin’ and rockin’,
Zel Ü
