Yule Go Wild!

Thursday, November 29th, 2007

Hi, Candy Girls!

If you haven't done your Christmas shopping yet, I suggest you go to YULE GO WILD! It's a 3-day festivity that is not like your typical bazaar. The event will take place at Antel Lifestyle City’s A-VENUE EVENTS HALL along Makati Avenue, Makati City from December 14-16, 2007 from 10AM to 10PM.  In addition to the hundreds of concessionaires that will be at the event, there will also be a "safari village" where live, exotic breeds of animals will be exhibited. You can even interact with them! Cool, isn't it? :D There will also be a fireworks display, magic demonstrations, air castles, and other attractions that will surely create a great  bonding experience, whether you're with your family or your friends.

For an added treat, there will be an international band competition on December 15th, 2007 (Saturday) from 4-7pm. There will also be a fashion show by Limelight Fashion on December 14th.

It's the perfect event for the last minute shoppers! Hope you'll have a wild Christmas, Candy Girls! :D

Angel

Couch Potatoes, Unite!

Wednesday, November 28th, 2007

Hey, Candy girls! My friend posted this nice TV meme (a meme is something—a video, a link, a set of questions—that is passed from person to person online) and I thought I'd answer it here. If you like this meme, answer it on your blogs, too! ;)

  1. Name a TV show series in which you have seen every episode at least twice: Right now, probably Pushing Daisies. In fact, I might have seen some episodes thrice! Oh, and Veronica Mars!

  2. Name a show you can‘t miss: My list of shows is very long but I really can't miss Pushing Daisies, Gossip Girl, and Heroes. I used to obsess about Grey's Anatomy, but this season has been less than stellar. :( I'm also watching Chuck, Private Practice, House, and Reaper. :D

  3. Name an actor who would make you more inclined to watch a show: Lee Pace, Penn Badgley, Nicholas D'Agosto, Zachary Levi, and Chris Lowell. Can you guess which shows I love to watch? ;)
  4. Name an actor who would make you less likely to watch a show: I love Ellen Pompeo's voice-overs on Grey's Anatomy, but I can't stand Meredith Grey. Please, enough drama with you and Derek! After Season 3, I also don't like TR Knight and Katherine Heigl. Ugh.
  5. Name a show you can and do quote from: Not always right, but I remember lots of lines from Pushing Daisies. I absolutely love that show. It also helps that the show is so quotable! With Ned's "I just thought my world would be a better place with you in it" and Chuck's "You love secrets. You want to marry secrets and have half-human, half-secret babies!"
  6. Name a show you like that no one else enjoys: Not many people I know liked the short-lived Popular. I loved Mary Cherry! I also super love Gilmore Girls, but I don't think a lot of people on the Candy team really watched it. :P

  7. Name a TV show which you've been known to sing the theme song: Gilmore Girls (Wherever you lead, I will follow…), Veronica Mars (A long time ago, we used to be friends but I haven't thought of you lately at all), Wonderfalls (We're bobbing along in our barrel/Some of us tip right over the edge), One Tree Hill (I don't wanna be anything other than what I've been trying to be lately), The OC (Califoooorniaaaaaaaaa), Small Wonder (She's a… small wonder! Haha)

  8. Name a show you would recommend everyone to watch: Pushing Daisies! I hope they show this here soon. I also recently watched this defunct TV series courtesy of Mimi's DVD collection. I absolutely loved it! If you chance upon Wonderfalls, it's an awesome show! It reminds me a little bit of Joan of Arc and The Glass Menagerie combined. (The lead, Jaye, has inanimate objects in the shape of animals talking to her. Heh.) And of course, my favorite series of all time, Gilmore Girls!
  9. Name a TV series you own: Sadly, I have yet to buy DVD box sets of all my favorite series. I would love to own the entire Gilmore Girls collection, though. I love that show.

  10. Name an actor who launched his/her entertainment career in another medium but who has surprised you with his/her acting chops in television: I actually haven't seen Kristin Chenoweth on Broadway, but she's awesome on Pushing Daisies. If only Ned didn't love Chuck so much, I would so totally be rooting for Olive to get together with Ned!
  11. What is your favorite episode of your favorite series? Currently, Pushing Daisies episode three (The Fun In Funeral) the one where it ends with Ned telling Chuck that he's not sorry she's alive.♥ This episode is made of WIN! With the cling-wrap kissing, Emerson/Pooh Bear's hilarious one-liners, Olive and her general cuteness and Alfredo, the Espresso Boy.
  12. Name a show you keep meaning to watch but you just haven’t gotten around to yet: Ugly Betty, Moonlight, Prison Break, Dexter among other things.
  13. Ever quit watching a show because it was so bad? I haven't been watching PBB Celebrity Edition 2 for a while now because it hasn't been that entertaining. :( Too bad because I've been a really big fan of the show since the first edition/season.
  14. Name a show that‘s made you cry multiple times: Grey's Anatomy has made me cry loooots of times. I think Heroes, too.
  15. What do you eat when you watch TV? Usually, nothing. Hehe!
  16. How often do you watch TV? Every single day.
  17. What's the last TV show you watched? Heroes. I can't believe we're down to the finale next week. Whaaaaat. Where did the season go?

  18. What's your favorite/preferred genre of TV? I love sitcoms and of course, the dramas. You gotta balance it out, you know. Haha!
  19. What was the first TV show you were obsessed with? Ghostwriter on the iChannel! I looooved that show. I even pretended that I could "talk" to Ghostwriter. My friends and I would have our notebooks and pens and we'd draw Ghostwriter's symbol on the edge of the pages. Hahaha! "He's a ghost and he writes to us. Ghostwriter!"

  20. What TV show do you wish you never watched? Most of Grey's Anatomy Season 4. :( *sigh* I really had high hopes for it after the awesome Season 3 finale.
  21. What is the weirdest show you enjoyed? It's really not a show-show, but I really liked watching The Untalkative Bunny. My brothers always wanted to switch channels when it came on, but I genuinely liked it. Haha! Strange since nothing really happens in the short minute (or even less?) that it airs. Hahaha!
  22. What TV show scared you the most? I don't really watch it, but Ghost Whisperer kind of freaks me out now after I watched an interview with the cast (I think they were on Tyra or some other talk show.) and they said that they've had spirits visit the set. Eek!
  23. What is the funniest TV show you have ever watched? I thought Everybody Loves Raymond was hilarious. It's sad that they went off air. And of course, Friends. Also, recently Chuck has its LOL moments, too. I love TV!

Enchanted by Enchanted

Tuesday, November 27th, 2007

Since everyone's still talking about it (and quoting lines and bursting into song at random moments), here are the top 5 things I loved about Disney's Enchanted:

1. James Marsden as Prince Edward. He was hilarious! I couldn't stop laughing when he said, "Thank you for taking care of my bride, peasants!" Haha!
2. Patrick Dempsey in a bathrobe. Hehe. ;P

3. The little girl Morgan played by the adorable Rachel Covey. "You don't want to wear too much makeup… Boys are only after one thing." So cute!
4. The songs! I especially loved "So Close" by Jon McLaughlin—it's the one they danced to at the ball. I've been listening to it non-stop since yesterday, thanks to Macy.

5. The fact that Disney can poke fun at itself. I liked how this movie was wholesome enough for the kids but funny and engaging enough for the adults.

What did you like about Enchanted? :)

Singing a happy working song,
Marla

The Real Love Revolution

Friday, November 23rd, 2007

Hello Candy Girls and Boys,

Patricia here from the Candy’s Council of Cool 8! I'm very excited about this whole experience and being able to work on the magazine that we all love so much (that's right I'm a true-blue Candy girl)! This opportunity is a combination of many passions, so I am hoping to make the most of everything. Be sure to check out next month's December issue to meet the rest of the members. :)

What comes into your mind when you think about love? What is love? Is it something you share with a special person, is it a feeling (na nakakakilig), or is it motivation that makes you want to do anything for someone (parents and sibs included) no matter what? Yes, love is all those things, but there is something more to that. As teenagers in the modern world, we are confronted with matters concerning love more than we realize. Sometimes we are affected by the media and see a distorted view. So, I think it is our responsibility to learn more about this important aspect of our life.

Here I am making an entrance. =))

Last night, I attended "The Real Love Revolution," a variety show that was part of the Second International Congress on Education in Love, Sex, and Life. There were numbers by well-known performers like Christian Bautista, Barbie Almalbis, Julianne Tarroja, and Miguel Escueta, who not only sang about love, but gave their own perspective on the importance of "Keeping Love Real." What made the event livelier were the dance performances and talk show segments.

It really struck me how significant all these issues are in our  young lives and how they become more important as we grow. There are many people really concerned about chastity, purity, and social issues—more than we realize. Let's all keep love real, join the Real Love Revolution and stand up for what is good and right even if the rest think otherwise. ;) For more information on how to "Keep Love Real" you can check out these sites:

My schoolmates and I are all together to support the Real Love Revolution

Here I am with Migs Escueta! My friend, Nicole and I had a fun time asking for his picture! :D

I also got to hang out and chat with Julianne Tarroja! Check out her album, it's awesome!

XOXO,

Candy Girl [Patricia] :D

P.S. CTC (Care to ChitChat)? Have you checked out Candy’s new chat room? It is an awesome environment to talk to your peers about issues like love. Try to catch me there one time (my username is corteaus).

Soul of Seoul

Thursday, November 22nd, 2007

Hi everybody, it's been a real long while since I last blogged. I think it's because I don't really know how, the whole idea escapes me. But at the urging of Mimi and Angel, I've decided to write a little bit about my trip to Seoul last week (for a press junket for The Face Shop). Let me tell you, I wasn't too excited to go at first because it's winter in Korea now, and I haven't been in the cold for some years now, so I wasn't feeling prepared. Plus, my reclusive nature felt threatened by the idea of going to a strange country with strangers. Needless to say, I'm glad I went because Seoul was awesome! I never imagined Korea to be so clean, organized, and pretty! And my fellow editors (from Summit and other publishing houses) are a total hoot! The whole press experience was cool–attending a conference, going to a factory to see how makeup is made and packaged–and the whole foreign country thing was amazing! I was able to rustle up a small group to go sightseeing, and it was crazy, but fun. Here are some pics of my experience:

Me and some of the editors outside our hotel.

Sampling some of the goods in The Face Shop.

Traditional (formal) Korean dinner.

All suited up for factory tour. No pics allowed inside factory :(

Summit sistas: Vicky from Preview, Lyca from Seventeen, moi, and Arlene from Marie Claire.

The beautiful park at the Gyeongbogkung Palace. Pretty!

Cheers!

Jennie
