Waiting For You
Friday, September 21st, 20075… 4… 3… 2… 1…
*drumroll please!*
Recording Artist and American Idol Finalist Elliott Yamin is now in Manila!
Marla and I got a chance to attend his press conference at Glorietta today and we were so excited to meet this cool crooner!
Here are five things we were surprised to learn about Elliott:
1. He was diagnosed with Type II diabetes at the age of 16…
2. …and he is 90% deaf in his left ear. (But he never stopped these things from doing what he loved—singing!)
3. He used to sell sneakers and wash dishes at various restaurants and started singing in Karaoke bars just for fun whenever he was out with his friends.
4. He’s more of “a brunette kind of guy”—which means he likes dark-haired girls like us better than blondes!
Host Ryan Agoncillo cheers to that!
5. He has a huge fan base in the Philippines (though you probably knew that already since his song, "Wait For You," has consistently been on radio stations’ top 10 the past few weeks) called Yaminoys.
Catch him tonight in TriNoma at 7 pm, Glorietta on September 22 at 7 pm, Market! Market! on September 23 at 6 pm, Ayala Center Cebu on September 26 at 6 pm, and Alabang Town Center on September 28 at 630 pm.
And of course, don’t forget to drop by the Candy Fair tomorrow, 1-9 pm at the NBC tent! We—and the Candy cuties—are so excited to meet you all!

Fall Out Girl
Thursday, September 20th, 2007This is my lame attempt at trying to infuse two topics I’d like to blog about. Excuse my lack of creativity and just pretend it’s a way cool subject. Sige na, it’s my birthday naman eh. Haha! Actually, I don’t go to work on my birthday. It’s been a “custom” I’ve been following since I started working. I wasn’t so excited to wake up early, but Macy’s message made me kilig: “I have a birthday gift for you—Gossip Girl episode one.”
1) Gossip Girl
If you’ve read this month’s goss page, you’ll know what I’m talking about!
Thanks to Mia C’s Christmas gift years back, I got hooked on this novel. I continued buying and reading the books each time a new one came out, and I’m proud to say I have all 11 books. Now, The OC creator Josh Schwartz has turned this set of best-selling novels into a TV series. I’m predicting it’ll be as big, if not bigger, than The OC and One Tree Hill. This is THE hottest new teen show to watch out for this year. Mark my words. I just don’t know which channel will pick it up (Studio 23? ETC?), and when it’ll come out, but keep your eyes peeled.
Macy, Steph, and I attempted to watch the show at the office (research purposes, hehe!), but there were a bunch of minor booboos regarding the audio and speakers. But we soon prevailed and got to watch it in Macy’s cam. (Thanks for letting me squat, Mace! Sorry Steph for the power source scare. Haha!)
2) Fall Out Boy
Nope, I’m not a fan, but I attended the press con with Roch just this afternoon. The lights were hot, the venue was hotter, the photographers kept taking snapshots with flash, but somehow, the boys still managed to keep their cool and answer most of the questions.
Sad to say, I have no quotable quotes (the heat zapped my brain), but I did manage to get you Candy girls snaps of the band. Yay! Are you going to the concert tonight or tomorrow? You might bump into me or Marla. If you do, don’t forget to say hi!
Oh! See you all on Saturday at the NBC Tent for the second Candy Fair.
MWAH!

Hang loose
Wednesday, September 19th, 2007
Last night, I caught the first two episodes of Beyond the Break with Angel and her guy. Ever since I tried out surfing months ago, the Candy girls have labeled me "surfer girl." (Well, actually just Mia! Haha!) I don't want to sound like a poser, but I really am fascinated about this sport. Just a little over a month ago, I trooped to Zambales with my friends to watch a surf competition. My girls and I promised each other to really learn how to surf and not make it just a one-time thing.

Beyond the Break is a teen drama series about four girls who train to become world-class surfers. Their routine is basically this: wake up early in the morning, ride some awesome waves, have breakfast, the rest of the day breezes by, and the cycle repeats. Imagine that? Living on the beach and getting paid, too! But the show's not all about surfing. It also gives you a glimpse into the lives of these four girls—the problems they encounter, the boys that they like, and how similar or different they are from each other.
After the two episodes, I was so bitin! I can't wait to watch it on Star World. And more importantly, I can't wait for next weekend when my friends and I try our luck on the beach again. Wish me luck! Hope there are waves and I get to stand on the board.
Stoked,
Macy
Beyond the Break starts airing on September 25 on Star World every Tuesday nights at 8pm.

(Almost) Everything I Need to Know in Life…
Tuesday, September 18th, 2007…I learned from my little siblings, Marcy and Macu!
1. A big kiss and a great bear hug are instant bad day repellents.
2. BFFs come in all shapes and sizes.
3. Chocolate cake and gooey cream puffs always taste better when shared with someone you love.
4. Wisdom doesn't always come from grown-ups. (Quote from cover boy Dino Imperial, who's reading over my shoulder right now and forcing me to type this—"Maturity does not come by age; it comes by experience.")
5. There's no place like home.
Belated happy 12th birthday to my only sister! Mwah!
Love,
Marla

Mia’s Good Scents
Monday, September 17th, 2007Lately, I’ve been finding that I’m extra attached to my stash of fragrances. In the past, I’d always have to make a conscious effort to remember to spritz some cologne on. I’d be dashing out my bedroom door before I remember that I have to double back to my perfume shelf. It was kind of a chore for me.
But now it seems I’m all about fragrances. These days, I can stand in front of my perfume shelf for long periods of time, taking a sniff of this, testing a spritz of that. It sounds like a waste of time, I know, but somehow it helps me a lot. If I can find the perfect scent to match my mood for the day, then I’m just that much more prepared to face the world.
I think my newfound obsession has to do with the fact that I’m finally wearing fragrance for ME, and not for whomever I’ll be interacting with in the course of my day. I’m choosing what I want to smell all day—not how I want to smell to others. It’s so much more meaningful this way…
Like when I’m feeling upbeat and I spritz on Durance’s Pamplemousse (Beauty Bar has this). It’s a citrus-y scent, and I bought my bottle the very first day of sem break, to celebrate the fact that my most harrowing and stressful semester was now over.
Or when I’m feeling all luxe and sophisticated, getting ready for a fancy dinner, and I tote my bottle of Hypnose (Rustan’s has this) along. It was a present from my best friend Nash, who’s one of those globetrotting girls who always seem just a bit more mature and sophisticated than everyone her age. I think she chose a great woman-of-the-world scent—it smells totally clean and elegant.
Or when I’m feeling nostalgic and missing my girl friends, and I reach for Ralph, the very same bottle Mia F. gave me when we were both still in Candy. It has such a fresh, sweet and young vibe, and a whiff of it always puts a smile on my face.
Or when I’m all excited for a date with my guy, and I know without a doubt I’ll be wearing my Prom Night scent (yes, the caps are necessary), Tartine et Chocolat. I bought my very first bottle for my prom (Rustan's has this), and now, years and years (and 3 bottles) later, I’m still hooked on that same chocolate-y scent, and that same prom date. (I’m happy to report that even though my scents sense has stayed the same, my fashion sense has improved since that night, and so has my prom date’s hair.)
So maybe my aromatherapy has more to do with my favorite people and milestones than with the scents themselves. I think it’s that positive vibe, that lovely message in a bottle, that I want to catch a whiff of all day.
Here’s what I have on heavy rotation now:
1) Penshoppe’s Smells Like Baby. I love the marshmallow-like scent and the pastel bottle. Groceries have this.
2) Island Life’s Vanilla. This always calms me when I’m frazzled or have a headache. Island Life has branches in Galleria and Glorietta.
3) Bayo’s Solid Perfume in Rice and Shea. Lasts long, smells good enough to eat, but not in a sickly sweet kind of way. I imagine crème brulee and tapioca sort of smell like this.

And here’s my current fave:
Mimi No. 4
Nice bottle, but totally inexpensive (Mimi has branches in Galleria, Power Plant, and Shangri-La among others). It’s a clean, soapy scent similar to my all-time fave, Banana Republic’s Classic, but with a dash of cherries, similar to Bath and Body Works’s Cherry Blossoms.
How about you, what good scents (and good times to go with them) do you have?
