Gadget Stress

Friday, August 31st, 2007

This lunch, I lined up for the ATM and stood in the queue for about 20 minutes. Just as the person in front of me was about to withdraw money, the bank went offline. Waah! My wait was all for nothing. Glurps

Last night, when I was texting Macy, she said that my warped photo came popping out whenever she’d reply to my messages. Freaky! Here’s what she saw:

During the long weekend, my friend Koko went on a white water rafting adventure. Her digital camera ended up getting soaked despite the fact that she put it inside a protective case! It didn’t want to turn on for a while… but after she gave it a pep talk (haha!), it turned on again.

But the freakiest thing happened to my beloved iPod one late night this month. As I was going home, I put my iPod on shuffle mode, and as I was reviewing old pictures, my baby started turning on and off and on and off and on and off… Well, you get the picture. Frown It scared the hell out of me, like it was possessed or something. I tried resetting it, and turned it off eventually. The next time I used it, it pretended nothing happened.

I never could understand why these machines unexpectedly conk out. Why me, why it, and why now? But you know what I hate even more? It’s when your warranty expires and then your gadget goes cuckoo the day after. What luck!

Sometimes, I wish gadgets could warn us—like they would suddenly be granted the power to speak while you’re using them and say something like, “Hey dear, it’s been fun hanging with you. But our time is almost over.” It sounds lame, I know, but a techie girl can dream, right?

Still loving my gadgets to the bitter end,

Mimi

Behind the Scenes with Dino Imperial

Thursday, August 30th, 2007

Hi, Candy guys and gals!

Now that you all know who the mystery cover boy is for September, let me take you behind the scenes at our cover shoot! :D

Here's Dino being groomed by make-up artist Jigs Mayuga. All set, Dino? :)

Meanwhile, we eagerly dug into this super yummy banana cake that Mimi bought earlier that day. It's simply mouthwatering! We practically devoured the whole thing with just a few bites.

Even Dino loved it so much, he almost fainted with delight! (Contact Granny's Specialties at 890-0076 or 0906-3488970 to order.)

What To Do on a Long Weekend

Wednesday, August 29th, 2007

Its been a busy week for the Candy Team and there are some things that made me forget the stress I’ve gone through for the past 5 eventful days…

1. Going on a getaway trip to Tagaytay with my family. The house was full of little kids who just can’t stop eating and eating!

2. Pampering myself with a relaxing full body massage with calming music and the aroma of lavender candles.

3. Buying myself a new pair of Havaianas to replace my broken brown flippies.

4. Seeing my 2-year-old niece after a week of not seeing her. It was such a great feeling to hear her say “Hi Tita!” before I leave for work.

5. And lastly, watching Hairspray in Shangri-La Premiere Theater with a bucket of barbecue popcorn and large Iced Tea. Zac Efron is soooo hot!

How about you? What made your long weekend productive and relaxing?

On R&R mode,
Roch <3

Guess who?

Tuesday, August 28th, 2007

This is our September 2007 cover boy. Can you guess who he is under that skeleton hoodie? A few clues: He was a Candy cutie two years ago, he's under 20, he's on a teen show, and he's a really talented and funny guy. And, he's very cute (of course!).

We asked him why he deserves to be on the cover, and he gave us such an impressive anwser that I just have to share it with you girls:

"I wanna be on the cover because, first of all, Candy rocks! It inspires people, and it's a guide to life, especially with things you're too embarrassed to ask help for. Plus, it's cool. I've always wanted to be on the cover of a magazine, especially Candy. It's one of my dreams. If you put me on the cover, I will try to give the best advice I can about life, love, friends, parents, and all that. And hopefully, if I'm on the cover, it will be the best cover ever! Hehe. I, (insert September 2007 cover boy's name here), wish to be a Candy Cover Boy! Please? You won't regret it. Thank you! Yay! World peace!"

Start posting your guesses! ;)

Love,
Marla

In and Out

Friday, August 24th, 2007

Hey, Candy girls!

I just spent an amazing but tiring week traveling in and out of the country with my friends. Took an impromptu trip to Singapore to see the sights, eat yummy food, and watch Gwen Stefani (actually the main reason this trip was planned). Although we didn’t sit in front, we had so much fun! Her costumes were amazing, her dancers were fabulous, and her voice was so good to hear live and to sing along to. Even better, she ran to our area and sang “Cool” while hanging out with the audience. How cool is that?

Here’s the nicest shot I could get of her during the concert. We couldn’t believe how flat how tummy was despite the fact that she had already given birth. Wow!

Speaking of tummies, check out mine (haha!) in this high jump taken a few days after my Singapore sojourn. My aunt, my high school friends, and I went on an adventure to the northernmost part of the country: Ilocos! The rain wasn’t cooperating so our first few days were dreary, but we were still able to make it fun.

The highlights of our tour were admiring the awesome windmills in Bangui, visiting the heritage village in Vigan, eating yummy dishes such as Bagnet in Kapuluan Vista Resort (I just loved this homey vacay spot!), walking the shoreline of Pagudpud’s Blue Lagoon, and taking a dip in the freezing waters of Kaibigan Falls.

My friends weren’t able to take surfing lessons (the sea was so placid!), so we’re thinking of taking another trip there. Where are you off to this long weekend?

Still suffering from traveling hangover…

Mimi
