Hope you guys are having fun in school. I am really hoping. Perhaps at this point, you're all sick of school, fantasizing about sem break, or waiting for the next long weekend to come. Join school orgs? Be part of something grand? Don't be a student, be the student! Hehe! Kill boredom!

Speaking of boredom, check out something we conjured up out of boredom! Haha! Well, love and boredom! Perfect combination…

Hope you have fun watching! We had loads of fun shooting and editing this, and we’ll be updating it regularly. Why don't you create something like this with friends? There doesn't have to be a debut or a graduation for someone to shoot and edit something like this! Haha! Take advantage of technology! As Melissa Joan Hart's character in Can't Hardly Wait said, "These are memories frozen in time, people!"

Well, in this case, they aren't exactly frozen. Enjoy!
Yael

PS: Watch the band on Ikon, Sundays at 7 pm on RPN 9.

Rakistas for a Night (Guest Bloggers #19-20)

Thursday, June 28th, 2007

Hi, Candy Girls!

ejana.jpg Ana and Ej here from the Council of Cool! Last Tuesday, we trooped to Hard Rock Café Makati to witness a night of fun and music. As part of the Council of Cool, one of our jobs is to cover events like this anti-drug concert “ROCK TO SAVE A LIFE,” which is inspired by The Fray’s “How To Save A Life.” It was organized by Sony BMG in partnership with the Philippines’ Dangerous Drugs Board, Music One, MTV Philippines, and Hard Rock Café. A rocking evening with top bands 6cyclemind, Callalily, Craeons, Moonstar 88, and Cueshe? This assignment doesn’t sound like a job for us at all! Other than the good seats (Ej chose the middle seats, so she really felt like being serenaded by the vocalists!), we also loved the press kits with The Fray’s “How To Save A Life” Special Asian Edition CD! :D

We knew it would be one memorable night as we spotted actor Dingdong Dantes, one of the advocates of the youth-against-drugs campaign, in the crowd before the show even started. Then the highlight of the night: All the participating bands were finally called onstage! Before the rock-and-roll started, each of our music-idols pledged to live a drug-free life. Very inspiring! ;)

Each band interpreted their versions of one of The Fray’s songs, and also played some of their popular hits! In between the drum beats and guitar chords, speakers, guests and even the band members gave the crowd youth empowerment messages, stressing that vices, especially drugs, do not go with music. Here are some of our favorite artists and their messages for the youth.

Callalily lead vocalist Kean Cipriano was truly a certified Candy Cutie when he said: “No to violence, no to drugs! Natural High is the best!”

kean_callalily.jpg

No wonder Ej fell head-over-heals with this “Stars” guy. Haha!

Cute and uber-fashionista Casper of Craeons, one of the newest and most promising bands in our country, said: “This event is very special for us. We even titled our album 'Non Toxic.' Get high on God not with Drugs!”

craeyons.jpg

Bobby of 6cyclemind gave a short yet direct message: “Life is too short. Why put it to waste?”

6cycle.jpg

And lastly, Moonstar88, (My favorite band since the time of “Sulat” and “Torete” —Ana), made a meaningful comeback in the music industry through this event, saying: “There are lots of other things that you can get addicted to, like music. We had friends who dealt with drug problems. That’s why we know that vices never do any good to anyone.”

moonstar88.jpg

And on a final note, here’s what we, Candy-Council-member-turned-rakistas, have to say: "It was a blast! I really had fun! I learned a lot and it’s nice to see how these rock bands agree that drugs aren’t friendly! Therefore, let's all Say ‘Yes to God, and no to drugs!’” —Ej

“We had a great time during the concert-for-a-cause even without drugs or alcohol. With good music and your best-est buds, you will surely have the time of your life filled with great memories of a night that you will never forget. Ever.” —Ana

Rock on, Candy Girls! :D

Ready for more (clean) fun,

Ana and Ej

Maggie Wilson—OST

Tuesday, June 26th, 2007

Hello, Candy girls!

I'm sure most of you have already seen the feature on our gorgeous cover girl, MTV VJ and Bb. Pilipinas-World, Maggie Wilson. I had a really great time interviewing her because she didn't give the typical showbiz answers (haha!), and she was so fun to talk to. In fact, I got so much nice material from the Soundtrack to Your Life interview that I still have some extra stuff which didn't make it into the magazine—and which I am now sharing with all of you. :) Enjoy!

Good Day: “Video” by India Arie
"The perfect day is when I can go to the mall with my friends, watch a movie, and just relax. I love hanging out with buddies because they keep me sane—we watch DVDs, tell stories, and pig out on junk food. When I don’t have work, I go out with my younger sister, who’s 16. We’re very close."

Bad Day: “Sugar, We’re Goin’ Down” by Fall Out Boy
"My pet peeves are plastic people and girls who walk around with plastic bra straps! Haha. I’m also very OC about my stuff, so I hate it when my sister goes through my closet. When I’m angry or upset, I just sit in my car and listen to music. Or, I bury my face in my pillow and scream. I used to hate my height (I’m 5’9”) and my dark complexion, but when I moved here, I realized that all my little insecurities actually worked to my advantage."

Girl Power: “More to Life” by Stacie Orrico

"I love how girls get pampered, how we can dress up and play with our hair. I love fashion shows and shoots. I also like the perks of being a model—free clothes and free salon services! I enjoy being a VJ because I love OPM rock, and I love interviewing bands and going to events. So far, the most fun interview I’ve had was with The Bloomfields. My dream interviews would be with Paramore and Chicosci."

Don't you just love her? We know we do! ;)

Big hugs,
Marla

Inner Child

Monday, June 25th, 2007

Lately, I've been finding that there's nothing like kiddie treats to brighten my day. Right now, I'm loving…

marga's mallows

1) Cutesy marshmallows. My niece Marga had her birthday breakfast yesterday, and she gave these to all the kids. When she and her sisters said I could have one too, it was the highlight of my day. Seriously!

key to my heart

2) Capsule toys. Mimi told me about these super cute toys you can get from token machines (check out Toys R Us), and I so wanted to get a doggie one. Call me babaw, but when Macy won this Dalmatian puppy for me, I felt like I won the lottery. No joke!

equestrian girl

equestrian girl's back

3) Happy Meal toys. This doll was part of the Madame Alexander batch of Happy Meal toys that came out last summer. I placed her (and her Sailor Girl friend) in my closet so I can see them every morning when I get dressed. I so love her blond ponytail and cute little tushie!

choco sherbet

4) Chocolate sherbet. Though chocolate ice cream will always have a special place in my tummy, its healthier cousin, chocolate sherbet is my current fave. Try the one in Je Suis Gourmand at the Fort!

ruby slipper

5) Ruby slippers. My tito is always telling me I used to beg him to buy me a pair of red shoes every time he'd visit, and I can't deny I do have a vague memory of wanting them so badly. So now, every time I buy a pair of red shoes, I feel I'm being good to the little kid in me. Check out the ones I'm wearing today!
