Last night, I headed off to Hard Rock after work with Marla and Roch. We were there for the video launch of Pupil's new song "Set Me Apart." The good folks over at Animax invited us for dinner and a live performance of one of today's hottest bands, Pupil.

The hosts for the night were Dylan from Jack TV/NU107 and Einar, who's part of this month's Boy Panel! Marla was so proud of her styling skills because she was the one who suggested that Einar layer his shirts! As you can see in the picture, he's been following her advice. ;)

And guess who we saw at the event?

Marla and I were like paparazzi stalking Candy cover girl Rhian Ramos. Haha! Here's a shot of Marla waiting for our turn to interview Rhian:

Aside from those I've already mentioned, we also bumped into another familiar face. We asked him if he could pose with an old issue of Candy where he was featured along with his brother (who was also at the event but we weren't able to ask to pose for the picture). Here he is:

Can any of you tell me which issue this was? :)

Anyway, to find out more about the music video that was launched, you can go to the Animax site. Also, stay tuned for a show that Rhian's going to be hosting. She was launched as the official VJ for Animax. Just keep checking their site for the schedules.

xoxo,
Macy

P.S.
It's so lonely here in the office! Everyone's out at a shoot!

Pearl Ganzon of COC 7 here. Greetings from the land of milk and honey! And I mean that literally. Or so at least it felt that way during the oh-so-sweet time I spent at Enderun Colleges' truffle-making and wine and chocolate pairing—an event entitled “Faites du Chocolat.” The many perks of being a part of the Candy Council of Cool include attending fun events such as this. Blessed with a sweet tooth to rival all those who claim to have sweet tooths, I was ready for some choco-lovin time. Upon arrival, my sister and I were greeted lavishly and enthusiastically by the lovely people of Enderun Colleges. I was even surprised to see a friend from high school back in CSA, Trishna! I got the chance to chat with her for a while, and it was obvious that she was enjoying her stay there.

While waiting for the demo and lecture, we were fed with scrumptious breads and pastries. My favorites include some kind of tuna-filled pastry pie and the toasted wheat one with ham, cheese and tomato. Yummmm!

But of course, the highlight of the event was still the chocolate. And when we finally got inside the lecture room (that also smelled like delicious gourmet chocolate!) for the demo/lecture and met Chef Etiene Irazoqui, we were all enthralled and excited to learn and discover the world of chocolat. The entire event paid tribute to a brand that chocolate lovers, gourmet creators, and professionals rejoice all over the world with—Valrhona chocolates. Chef Etienne, the Shanghai-based pastry chef consultant for Valrhona HQ in France, did a wonderful job as a lecturer that day. It was both informative and interesting, and I also found his French ways both endearing and amusing. He started off with the history of chocolate and moved on to the process and evolution of various forms of chocolate. As a history buff, I found all this very interesting.

Outside the lecture room was a glorious spread of chocolates. It was a chocolate buffet that I was so eager to dive into. We got to take a little bit of everything so we could compare and enjoy most of the spread. And let me just say how amazed I am by everything laid out there! The initial bite of any of the sample desserts was an immediate explosion of unique flavors. It was exciting and unpredictable, and I'm just enthralled by the chef's creativity. I learned that manipulating chocolate is an art in itself. Thanks for having me there, Enderun!

What's your favorite sinfully chocolatey dessert? Let me know! :)

Spreading the choco-love,
Pearl

Dearest Candy Girls,

I'd just gotten back from a caffeine run (just iced tea, actually) with Cindy of Seventeen, when what should I see on my desk?

Oooh! A package from Enchong Dee!

I tore open the package and saw this nicely wrapped gift from Enchong. I just love getting presents! And this was in the middle of a work day!

Nice gift wrap! Check out Enchong's handwriting.

I read the card first. (I'm a sucker for sentimental notes. I even save my friends' doodles!) His note was super sweet—he said he'll never forget his Candy cover because it was his first magazine cover ever!

Angel, Marla and I getting kilig over the note!

Sigh. A cutie AND a sweetie. What a lethal combination! Oh, and in case you were wondering, his present turned out to be nice—a white shadowbox picture frame, perfect for a photo of my doggie!

Love,

Mia

Game Time

Friday, May 18th, 2007
by mimi

Hey, Candy girls!

The team was at a shoot yesterday for the July issue. While the model was being made up and we had nothing better to do (sorry Mia! Innocent), we started talking about old games we used to play in school. A paper folding game came up. I don’t really know what it’s called (is it really named COOTIE CATCHER?), but it gave us so many fun memories back then that we decided to play it.

To play, here’s what you should do:

1) Fold your paper into a square and cut out the excess part.

2) Fold it into a smaller square twice, flipping the whole paper to make the second smaller square.

3) Fill up the four small squares with your favorite colors, words, or whatever you want. [Example: Blue, Red, Yellow, and Green.]

4) Flip the paper and then put random number on the eight slots. (Don't make the numbers too high though or else it might take you all day!)

5) Open the paper and then put your random names depending on your category. [Example: If your game is all about your dream guy, put eight different guy names. Channing, Milo, Adam...]

OH! Macy found a site which explained how to do it better. Check it out at: http://www.girlpower.gov/GIRLAREA/gamespuz/cootiecatcher.htm

How we played the game…
For our first try, our category was plastic surgery (don’t ask why! Really long story I don’t want to get into). Whatever you get means that’s what you should have done. Macy was our official paper flicker. I chose the color Pitch Black from that, Periwinkle Blue, Immaculate White, and Turquoise Green.

Macy spelled out the letters and gave me four number options. I chose 2 (from 2, 1, 6, and 5) then it went back to the same set and I picked 1. When Macy opened the flap, it revealed I had to get a NOSE LIFT. Hahaha! I was hoping I’d get “JUST THE WAY YOU ARE” which Angel got. Our photographer Pat Dy—who’s a guy!—apparently needed a TUMMY TUCK. It was super funny!

For the second round, we decided to make it your past life or secret identity. Instead of colors for the primary round, we put Miss Universe countries like Trinidad and Tobago, Slovenia (to honor PBB's Tina), Cayman Islands, and Papua New Guinea. Then we added an option of writing down two names per section—so instead of just 8 choices, there were 16 choices. Then Macy would ask if you wanted IN or OUT. While I got Jar-Jar Binks (haha!) then Katrina Halili (from beast to beauty!), the funniest results were:

SECOND RUNNER-UP is Angel as the freaky Marilyn Manson

FIRST RUNNER-UP is makeup artist Jigs Mayuga as Akon (teehee!)

And our DEFENDING CHAMP is Roch who is the Hunchback from 300 by day, then Mahal at night (bwahaha!)

Do you want to play as well? Pick a number 1 to 8 and let me know if you want IN or OUT. I’ll get back to you with your secret identity… Disclaimer: Not all of the answers are nice, so I hope no one gets hurt. Remember, it’s just a game. Wink

MWAH!

Mimi

PS: I’m currently crazy about skulls! I don’t know if it’s because of Pirates and the Carribean 3, but skull prints have been sprouting up everywhere. Jigs brought this funky bag to the shoot and inspired me to finally buy the David & Goliath camouflage-inspired case I’ve been eyeing for weeks (I'll let my LeSportsac heart iPod case take a break). It’s so cute!

Candy On Air!

Hi, Candy Girls!

Were any of you able to catch us on the radio yesterday? As Macy mentioned in her earlier post, we hopped to three different stations to promote the May issue with cutie Enchong Dee on the cover!

It was just me, Macy, and Marla since Mia was sick and the others were busy. We still had a blast though chatting with DJs old and new! :D

Our first stop was Hit 99.5 with DJs Josh and Tracy. It was our first time to guest on their show and I was so surprised because when I saw Tracy in person, I realized she was my classmate in high school! Wow! Talk about a blast from the past. I haven't seen her in ages! We had a fun time reminiscing about our high school days and talking about old schoolmates. Aside from that, she grilled us about Enchong and the different boys in the issue. (Hmm, I think Josh was a bit left out, being the only guy there! Haha!)

Here's a shot of Marla, me, Macy, Josh, and my high school pal Tracy.

Right next door was Magic 89.9, our second stop on the tour. It was good to see DJ Boom again 'cause we always have a hoot when we guest on his show. Want to know what was the first thing he said when he saw us? He asks, "Where's Mimi?" Yihee! Looks like they have a special connection. ;) During the interview. he asked us a lot of questions about the articles written by the boys. He even asks Marla, "Personally, is there anything about boys that surprises you?" She ended up sharing a bit of juicy kuwento… but I won't tell you what it is. That's between us… and the million listeners who probably heard it! Haha!

That's the three of us with Boom. He teases us and says we probably won't come back after that grilling session, but don't worry Boom, you haven't seen the last of us yet!

After having a hearty lunch at Coffee Bean, we proceeded to our last stop: Wave 89.1 with DJ Pam. (Incidentally, DJ Marv from the boy panel is from Wave too!) Anyway, the first thing she tells us is: "Everyone's making fun of my dress! They say it looks like a mantelpiece." We all thought it was super cute though! Don't listen to those naysayers, Pam. Trust the Candy girls!

Here we are with Pam and her pretty brown dress. Don't you think so? :)

Whew! That was a busy day. On the ride home, Macy reveals that she's always wanted to be a DJ. Hmm, maybe someday we'll have Candy Radio and you'll hear her voice on air! Watcha  think?

So that's it for now. Have you all read the May ish already? Do grab a copy if you don't have one yet. We promise it'll be worth it! :D

Signing off,

Angel
