Flip-flop Fever
Thursday, March 22nd, 2007Just this afternoon, Marla, Macy, and I trooped to Powerplant Mall for the "Make Your Own Havaianas" event. It was so much fun because we could choose our own rubber sole and straps, and even put cute pins or Swarovski crystals!
Check out that cool spinning glass table. You can mix and match the different-colored straps and soles to get the perfect color combo.
You can also try different combinations on this wall! Here's Macy looking for the perfect strap to go with her white sole.
After much deliberation (It was sooo hard to decide!), I finally settled on a dark brown sole with a gold strap. Macy also chose a gold strap for her white sole. Too bad there was no size that would fit Marla!
But she was happy for us anyway!

So to all Havaianas fanatics, rush over to the North Court of Powerplant Mall, Rockwell and make your own Havaianas! Hurry though, 'cause this is only happening till Monday, March 26, 2007!
If you were there, what colors would you pick? Would you put pins or Swarovski crystals? (Macy and I preferred the classic look.) Good luck!
Angel
P.S. We were so hungry after the tedious task of choosing the perfect color combo that we decided to drop by Bread Talk to have merienda. Check out our yummy treats!

Don’t think, just shoot!

About three years ago, my good friend, Mikko, bought a Supersampler for me. It only cost her about $20 then (it was a special deal, too, since she also bought one for herself) so I paid her only P1,000 for the toy camera. I had no idea how to use it but it looked so cute (my Supersampler is blue). Haha!
So I loaded the first roll (yes, you use regular 35mm film for this! I don't know but you probably stopped using film for a while now, right?) and took pictures at the beach. I lovelovelove how the pictures turned out! The pictures came out over-saturated, which made it look different from pictures taken with other film cameras. The supersampler has FOUR lenses, which takes pictures one after the other. So since there are four lenses, there are also four pictures, right? But all the shots come out on one frame. So you have four panels of simultaneous movement on one picture. It's pretty awesome if you ask me.
According to the company that produces these cameras (there are different kinds), here are the 10 Rules of Lomography:
- Take your LOMO everywhere you go and whenever you go.
- Use it any time – day or night.
- Lomography is not an interference in your life, but a part of it.
- Shoot from the hip.
- Approach the objects of your lomographic desire as close as possible.
- Don't think.
- Be fast.
- You don't have to know beforehand what you've captured on film.
- You don't have to know afterwards, either.
- Don't worry about the rules.
You can read more about Lomography here.
I have kept the camera in my room for about three years now (After three or four rolls the year I got it, I stopped using it. Mostly because it had to be super sunny for the pictures to come out nice.). And this year, I suddenly had the urge to bring it out and take pictures with it again.
Here are a couple of pictures I took when my friends and I went to Enchanted Kingdom last weekend:

That's the Carousel and part of the floor near the entrance.

This is the ride I probably will never go on. (You can see part of my finger in two of the panels! Haha!)

I loved taking pictures of the Wheel of Fate.

This was an experiment. We wanted to get one person per panel. Obviously, we failed. haha! But that's what I love about taking pictures with my Lomo! It's waiting for the film to get developed and see how the pictures came out because half the time, you're really not planning the shots. You don't really look through the view finder to frame your subject. You just shoot, shoot, shoot, and shoot!

This is one of my favorite shots from this roll. That's me and my good friend Kaich. We also have another picture of our shadows from when we went to the Hot Air Balloon Fiesta.
Have you ever tried taking pictures with a Lomo? I'd love to hear from you! Maybe you can even give me tips!
Feeling super,
Macy

Riding the Airwaves
Tuesday, March 20th, 2007Hello, Candy girls!
How was your weekend? Mine was fantastic! I got to spend it in an amazingly beautiful place far from the hustle and bustle of the city. I enjoyed the great company, but what's even better was that I had loads of time for myself—I lounged by the pool and wrote pages of journal entries, went on emo walks by the beach, and had breakfast alone while enjoying the wonderful ocean view. It was one the best weekends I've had this year, and I can't wait for my next getaway.
For now though, it's back to reality for me. And as promised, here are photos from last week's radio tour. Were you able to tune in while we were on air? We hope we made sense and didn't bore you to death. Haha.

That day, Macy, Mimi, and I also dropped by Penny Brown near the Candy HQ. Can you tell how much we love their sinfully yummy Smackers? It's my ultimate comfort food! What's yours?

On a totally unrelated note, please watch Wazzup Wazzup tonight, 7PM on Studio 23. Host Toni Gonzaga has a special message just for you.
Big bear hugs,
Marla

Pain, Pain Go Away
Monday, March 19th, 2007It’s difficult to work and to think about what to blog when your whole back is throbbing from a combination of too much baby lifting (my nephew, who turned two last Saturday, weighs a ton!) and cramps from the dreadful monthly visitor.
The latter is such a gross topic to talk about, but I think it’s unfair that females are the only ones who go through this icky, uncomfortable feeling every single month. (Message to God: WHY US?) Sometimes, I wonder how life would be if GUYS were the ones who had it. Just imagine full-grown men looking bloated, or worse, with babies swimming in their tummies! Haha! They’ll finally understand why we get mood swings and feel so conscious about our bodies.
Don’t get me wrong. I relish the fact that I’m a woman (I love my curves and everything else being a woman entails!), but on days like this… Sigh! The silver lining to this dark cloud? I’ll be frolicking under Boracay’s hot sun with no worries. Yeeeeeees! I'm flying off to Kalibo tomorrow with Team Chillax. So excited to take a break!
See you in a week (hopefully with a tan),
Mimi
PS: Read Pam Pastor's blog and she mentioned she watched the concert and MET Rachael Yamagata. ACK! Lucky girl.

Hey, girls! This is Zee of COC3. School has been super busy! I can’t wait for summer vacation to start! I still have a couple of requirements left for this sem.
School has been über stressful somehow I’ve mastered the art of distracting myself from the tense situations that life brings.
Last year, my friends and I started Powernap Collective. It’s one of the things that has kept me sane (and somewhat productive) for the past months. We make shirts, cuffs, key chains, dolls and we custom design sneakers. But since January, ½ of the Powernap core group (Sam and Apol, the original makers of Powernap’s sub-brand, Drawings on the Shoes) flew off to Vietnam to pursue their careers, my boyfriend, Mike and I have been working hard to keep the Powernap boat afloat!

Though it’s quite a challenge squeezing in orders into our busy scheds (I have school and work on the side; my bf works full-time in an ad agency), we reap
rewards when we see the satisfied reactions of our customers! We already have a month long waiting list, so call out to Sam and Apol: come home! Here are some of the favorite shoes that we’ve done:

ANNE This is my favorite coz it’s one of the first shoes that we made. She gave us a list of things that she liked, and we interpreted that into the design.

NIKKI This was Mimi’s Christmas gift to her cousin Nikki. She like guitars, camo prints, oh and that’s Wee from Witch

Shoes for TARA. Our customer, Dennis, had these made for Tara. She likes Warhol, the colors pink and blue, and her cutie pooch, Rusty. Hehehe!

LUIS gave us the freedom to do anything we want with his shoe. We played around with patches of white, free-hand drawings, and pastel colors.

ZEE These are my shoes! Mike made them for me. I love the colors and dreamy lines, and the little angel wings on the side!We can’t wait for our friends to come home so we can finally bring to life our dreams of having our own studio! Next year! Yeah yeah yeah!

For now, Powernap will be consigning at Happy Andrada’s new store, FART. I’m quite excited about it coz the well-designed store is such a visual feast! The store’s opening on March 23, and you’re all invited! It’s located at 24 K-D corner K-1st, Kamuning. Do drop by and check out our Powernap stuff. For maps and more info, check www.happyfart.com.
Oh, and check out our other Powernap stuff at http://powernapcollective.multiply.com and http://powernapcollective.blogspot.com! More fun stuff coming up!
That’s all for this time! Now, let’s enjoy the summer!
Whoo!
Zee
