Make a wish!
Wednesday, February 21st, 2007Last week, Angel, Mimi, and I went to Gateway Mall with a bunch of our officemates to have lunch and see a movie. What happened in between was a mini-tour in the mall. After lunch, we were brought to this pretty café in the middle of the mall.

Isn't it pretty? You can see the clouds! I think it's a wonderful idea for a café. Check it out when you're in Gateway.
There was some sort of pond there and you could throw a coin and make a wish! So, of course, we just had to do that, right?

I wonder what Mimi's wishing for. She seems pretty hopeful here.

Angel looks very happy with her wish.

I don't remember what I wished for. Haha! Oh no, that can't be good.

Here we are post-wishing. See that doggie bag I'm holding? Okay, you probably can't. Haha! But wait for Angel's and Mimi's blogs about our super duper yummy lunch and the awesome movie we saw.
Trying to be coherent,
Macy

Prom Flashbacks
Tuesday, February 20th, 2007Hey, Candy girls!
Prom season is almost over, and I'm sure you have lots of stories about That Big Night. I still remember mine: all the worrying about my dress and shoes, the fuss over my hair and makeup, and the pre-prom drama. (Good thing my school didn't require us to have formal dates, or that would've added to the long list of things I had to think about.)
Last Friday, my HS alma mater invited me over to help them pick out their prom king and queen. It was funny, because the night before that, my friend asked me what I was wearing and I couldn't even come up with an answer. Minutes before the event, I managed to throw on a dress, find some accessories, do my makeup, and attempt blow-drying my hair (which turned out to be a major disaster, so I had to make do with a ponytail). My brother volunteered to accompany me, and I'm glad he did, because although it was fun seeing my old teachers and being able to do prom all over again, I felt weird and out of place. It was strange and a bit sad that something I was so obsessed about five years ago no longer sparked the same amount of excitement in me.
Still, it was nice to be able to sit back and see all those lights and flowers and pretty dresses and watch the prom-goers laughing and dancing and having a great time. So even if I'm technically no longer a part of that world, I'm happy I somehow got to experience high school again—even for just one night.

Here I am with my reluctant escort. Haha.
How was YOUR prom? We'd love to hear all about it!
Still feels like a high school girl sometimes,
Marla

Wedding Bliss
Friday, February 16th, 2007Everyone I know is leaving town or getting married these days. (Signs of growing up, I guess!) I'm still the same—still in the same place/spot/status/job, but happy just the same.
Just last week, my good friend in the States surprised us by telling us she was getting married the next day! How shocking is that?
Aside from that, I had three weddings to attend last weekend (like I said in my previous post).
I had a fun time hosting the Sunday wedding reception for my buddy Tin and her hubby Willen's wedding. I just flubbed a little of the first part because my co-host and I had to rearrange the names/order of the entourage. I ended up reading some of the names intended for him after he read one of mine.
It didn't help that the waitress at our back accidentally spilled a drink onto the guest. Yikes! Tin says I did good though, so that makes me glad. I just feel a little bad that I didn't get to hang out with my kabarkadas as much since I kept going back to the podium, and I didn't get to taste much of the main course. It doesn't matter though, 'cause I still got to take loads of pictures! Here are some snaps we took that night…
With my co-host Winston and the happy newlyweds.
Our posing with flowers picture started a few years back during my other kabarkada's wedding. Not everyone's in the pic, but we had to keep the funny tradition going.
Cute and yummy wedding cake! They had a lot of it, so Tin made me bring home a whole box. Double YAY!
This is a silly comic strip I came up with after seeing the random shots we took with the bouquet of flowers. The only thing that's real there is that Willen really did approach us and asked us for the flowers. Apparently, it really belonged to his mom! We were so embarrassed, but couldn't stop laughing out loud.
In the car with my high school barkada bestie, Blanche.
I love attending parties in general… especially if it's to celebrate someone I care for's birthday. Speaking of birthdays, one of my besties is a year older today. Here's a shout-out to you, Blanche! I hope our friendship grows even stronger. May we be friends 29 more years from now. Haha!
Excited to eat more birthday cake this weekend,
Mimi

Post-Valentine Post
Thursday, February 15th, 2007Hello, Candy Girls!
Belated Happy Valentine's Day! So how did you spend the day of hearts?
As Marla told you on her last post, the Candy eds and I watched Music and Lyrics yesterday. It was such a cute movie! Something happened in the middle of the film though—it just stopped all of a sudden and we had to wait a few minutes before it started up again. Here we are looking pretty disgruntled.
Good thing the rest of the movie was so great that we forgot about that little incident soon after watching it!
The rest of the day at the office was fun too 'cause Shar brought us some of her yummy strawberrry cupcakes, while Marla passed around a bag of dark chocolate kisses. Now what could be better than that?
That day, I also received a surprise delivery—a bouquet of one dozen pink tulips from my boyfriend Roland! It was really unexpected because for the past few days, he’s been telling me that he won’t buy me flowers anymore. He said they’re too expensive and that he'd rather treat me to dinner. It was actually okay with me because personally, I’d rather he spent the money on good food! So I was very surprised when he went out and bought flowers for me anyway. Apparently, it was just a ploy so I wouldn't expect anything. Well, it worked!
That evening, Roland and I went to Ateneo to watch a play called "Sinta" by Dulaang Sibol. But first, we stopped by Kopi Roti to grab our fave snack!
Anyway, the play is a love story about a teenage girl named Sinta and her "forbidden love." It was very funny and touching! Oh and guess who played the role of Sinta? Maita Ponce—a former COC member! She was really good. And her voice was A-MA-ZING!
Here's a shot of Roland and me in front of the theater.
For dinner, we ate at Sweet Inspirations. Check out that stuffed squid and mango chicken salad—d'lish!
We didn't have dessert (I already ate too many sweets that afternoon!) but we did have these yummy drinks! I also couldn't resist taking a picture of the cute little hearts hanging from the ceiling.
All in all, it was a really fun day. Can I tell you a secret? This is actually the first time I spent Valentine's Day with a real date! But I realized that whether you're single or in a relationship, Valentine's Day can still be fun and meaningful. In fact, some of my best Valentine memories are those spent with my friends. In high school, my gal pals and I would sleep over at someone's house and have kilig movie marathons and videoke sessions. In college, my friends and I once went on a group date and it was really sweet because the boys gave flowers to the girls and they even treated us to dinner. It was so much fun!
What about you, Candy gals (and guys!)? What are your sweetest Valentine memories? Share your stories and spread the love!
Angel

Love Is.
Wednesday, February 14th, 2007
The Candy girls watched Music & Lyrics today. It was happy and hopeful—the perfect Valentine movie! Plus, we loved their songs:
I've been hiding all my hopes and dreams away
Just in case I ever need them again someday
I've been setting aside time
To clear a little space in the corners of my mind
I've been watching but the stars refuse to shine
I've been searching but I just don't see the signs
I know that it's out there
There's got to be something for my soul somewhere
All I want to do is find a way back into love.
And although I am not directly involved in the world of romance and roses today (meaning I have no official date, haha), I can clearly see that love is everywhere. Love, much like happiness, can be found in the most unexpected places and situations—in the laughter you share with your very best friends, in the little secrets you are entrusted with, and sometimes, in feel-good movies and wonderfully written songs. You can never alienate yourself from love.
It really is all around us.
Have a beautiful Valentine's day!
Big bear hugs and pretty candy hearts,
Marla
