Sandali Lang

Wednesday, January 31st, 2007

Hello, Candy girls!

Let me introduce you to Silent Sanctuary:

Marla, Mimi, and I were at the Universal Records office when we bumped into them. They are our new favorite band! :P Marla says they're the Yellowcard of the Philippines. I love them because their songs sound weepy and sad (I think it's because of the violin and cello.)—and I love songs like that.

My favorite track on their album, Fuchsiang Pag-Ibig, is "Sandali Lang." *cries* Haha! You should grab a copy of their album. :) I'm not sure if it's out yet, though.

My favorite songs this week (also known as songs I've been listening to while I work.):
01 Silent Sanctuary's Sandali Lang
02 OK Go's Oh Lately It's So Quiet
03 John Mayer's Vultures and Stop This Train
04 Kate Havnevik's So:Lo

What are yours? I'd like to know. I'm open to new music. Hehe!

xoxo,
Macy

Every day’s a new day.

Tuesday, January 30th, 2007

Last week, my friends and I were talking about how we all wanted to hibernate. It sounds funny at first, but I’m sure you girls know the feeling—those days when you just want to stay in bed and watch Grey’s Anatomy and eat ice cream and not do anything productive. My friend even said he wanted to go somewhere far, far away and come back a completely different person after a year or so—and I could actually understand why he wanted to do that. :(

But as if she read my mind, another good friend of mine sent me this text a few hours after that conversation:

“There are days that are just so tempting to sleep through; when all we can think about is how to survive our next deadline, or delay our next argument. But if we always remember that there are people to turn to for love and support, there will never be a day that we fail to be happy and content. Thank you for being one of those people!”

And today, I woke up to this SMS from my Mom:

“Know why you were blessed with another morning? It’s to forget the pains of yesterday and see the chances the new day has brought. To dance and laugh again, to make up for the wrong things you’ve done, to see your friends, to love again, to make others feel happy and loved. You see, it’s more than just another long day ahead—it’s God’s way of reminding you that he cares. Good morning!”

Counting our blessings, looking on the bright side, embracing hope—I’ve always been aware of the value of maintaining a positive outlook on life. Sulking and whining and procrastinating have never really done me any good.

But sometimes, I just need to be reminded. And those messages did just that.

How about you, Candy girls? What are your Life-is-Beautiful Reminders? :)

Big hugs,
Marla

Good food and good friends

Monday, January 29th, 2007

Dearest Candy girls,

What do I do when I'm in need of a little happiness? Eat, of course! But not overeat — or I'll never hear the end of it from my family! (My lola just told me that I was looking a bit chunky. After sulking for a while, I decided not to let it get me down and to just watch what I eat.)

But today, I started my week with good food and good friends — the way a week should always start! Mimi, Koko, Becky, and I headed to Omakase on Libis and had these yummy eats! If you gals are in the mood for fusion Japanese food and are willing to spend a bit (not too steep, we spent around 300 a head) then head over there.

  Spicy Tuna Salad

This is my favorite! Uni tempura — soooo good but not for the faint-hearted. haha!

Mimi and Koko

Becky and me — I was trying to look away but just ended up laughing. Oh well! Check out that spread! Mmmmm good! Can't wait to go back!

What's your comfort trip?

love, Ines

Food Trip Galore Part 2: Worm Fest!

Friday, January 26th, 2007

Hey, guys!

As promised, here is the sequel to my previous post (Food Trip Galore)—shots of the Candy eds munching on real worms!

worms.jpg

These are fried bamboo worms from Thailand. They're considered a delicacy because they're quite hard to find. My friend told me they're "clean worms" so they're definitely safe to eat! (She also said they taste like French Fries—but that's just her opinion. Haha!)

mimi2.jpg mimi1.jpg

Mimi was very game to try them. She was a little hesitant at first but in the end, she was the only one who ate more than one piece. Hehe!

marla.jpg ines-macy.jpg

Marla, Macy, and Ines were not that enthusiastic but they each tried one anyway.

jen.jpg jen2.jpg

Jen was the least happy about it but we finally convinced her to try one, on the condition that Macy stand right beside her with a jug of water. It was a good thing Macy did 'cause Jen gulped a lot of water as soon as Mimi popped that worm into her mouth!

angel-and-mim.jpg

Since nobody else wanted them, Mimi and I tried to balance the worms below our noses instead. Mine kept falling off though so I just ate it. Haha!

Honestly though, the worms were crunchy and salty—not bad at all! Right, Candy eds? Wink

Craving for more worms,

Angel

For a Cause

Thursday, January 25th, 2007

Hey, Candy girls! :)

I know you love music as much as I do, but don’t you just luv, luv, LURVE it when artists come together to support something they’re passionate about? This Sunday and Monday, that’s exactly what’s going to happen. The biggest bands in town are uniting to help two worthy causes at the Eastwood City Central Plaza:

What: LivELY: A Fundraising Concert for the Benefit of Ely Buendia
When:
January 28 (Sunday), starting at 4 pm
Bands slated to perform: Parokya ni Edgar, Kamikazee, Rivermaya, Itchyworms, Sponge Cola, ChicoSci, Up Dharma Down, True Faith, Join the Club, Moonstar 88, and more!
What you can bring to help:
If you’re willing to donate money to pay for Ely’s medical bills, any amount will be gratefully accepted at the venue.

What: ROCKERPARK: A Streetball Challenge
When: January 29 (Monday), starting at 4 pm
Bands slated to play basketball: Sandwich, Sponge Cola, Pupil, Dicta License, Kjwan, Up Dharma Down, ChicoSci, and many others! (I’m rooting for the Yael-Yanny tandem if ever they’re teaming up!)
What you can bring:
Previously owned and used sports equipment to donate for public schools through the RockEd PE Project.

Hope you girls can drop by! Bye

Mimi
