What I loved about working on the September ish
Thursday, August 31st, 2006Hi, guys!
I'm sure you've all grabbed a copy of the September ish already. If you haven't, what are you waiting for? Get one na before it runs out!
Anyway, I just wanted to share some of the things I loved about working on this issue (as the title of my post says). Hehe!
1. Interviewing cover boy Gerald Anderson and writing the story about him for our On The Cover feature. Talking to a cute boy and staring at pics of him all day? Enough said!
Here I am (holding Mimi's iPod recorder) interviewing Gerald while makeup artist Cathy Cantada grooms him.
2. Working on Jawbreaker ("Our brother was shot by carnappers!"). This month, I interviewed the family of Richard Capili. It's a sad story and I almost cried while listening to them talk about him. But the truth is, Richard's story is such an inspiring one because though he died at a young age (he was only 19!), he lived his life so fully for God and his family and he continues to inspire other people. Have you read the story? Let me know what you think! Or you can log on to candymag.com/jawbreaker to share your thoughts.

Richard and his siblings Richmond and Kaye.
3. Writing the Quiz: You're the Man! If you were a guy, what would your ligaw style be? This quiz was so fun to do! It's nice to put your head in guy mode once in a while. So, what's your ligaw style? I'm Mr. Friendship! Teehee!
Our model Katrin gamely posed like Amanda Bynes in She's the Man!
4. Interviewing John Prats for Guy Firsts about his memorable showbiz firsts. Macy and I went to ABS-CBN Talent Center to talk to John. He's such a sweetie!

Me, John, and Macy take a snappie after the interview.
5. Working on Me, Only Better. This article is about how to deal with failure. I even called my high school guidance counselor and enlisted the help of my friends for this piece. Did it help you, Candy girls? I hope so 'cause it even helped me while I was writing it!
6. And last but not the least… helping out at the Candy Cuties shoot! Three straight Saturdays of going to the office and working the whole day might be a drag for some people—but not when you're shooting cuties all day! Check out behind-the-scenes pics in Marla's post below!
So as you can see, our latest ish is super jam-packed! Let us know your comments (positive or negative) and suggestions in TeenTalk!
Angel
P.S. By the way, be sure to hold on to your September issues 'cause it's your ticket to the Candy Fair on September 30 at The Fort. See you there!

Behind the Scenes
Tuesday, August 29th, 2006Hey, Candy girls and guys!
Have you seen our September issue? It's already out, so go run to the nearest magazine stand and grab a copy for yourself. Our 100 cuties are waiting for you!
After the pre-screening (where we must have gone through hundreds of nominations), we had our go-see/shoot on three consecutive Saturdays of June. It was stressful trying to fix scheds, making sure everyone will fit into our tiny makeshift studio, booking as many boys as possible, and keeping track of the people who came and went, but everything was worth the effort. We all had so much fun—and not just because A LOT of cuties showed up. Hehe.
I'm sure many of you are curious about what went on during those three Saturdays, so here are a few photos just for you. Enjoy!

Macy, with the instructions for the boys. Good thing we finally decided to write all of that down during the second Saturday, because it was tiring having to repeat ourselves over and over again. We actually memorized that speech!

The Magalona sisters Saab and Maxx, plus Candy cuties Frank and Rowell.

There's Angel trying out makeup artist Cathy Cantada's chair. We all wanted to sit there too! And there's Shar fixing RP Gutierrez's bonnet. Yihee! (Haha, just kidding, Shar.
)

Angel and Mimi with Starstruck cuties Marky and Chuck.

Chuck and Gian with their handler, Chris.
The Candy staff: tired but happy, and trying to look angas but only ending up looking funny.
Big hugs for everyone!
Marla

So you want to model? :>
Tuesday, August 29th, 2006Hi girls! I just want to clarify some things regarding modeling for Candy. By "portfolio" we mean a set of pictures of yourself. It is best if these pictures are clear. Now, you have to know that the pictures you send will not be placed in the magazine, I will just be taking a look at them and see if your "look" is the one I'm going for
Please remember though that to model for Candy you'd have to participate in photo shoots. Also, don't forget to include your contact information (like mobile number or email addy) and some info about yourself (age and if you go to regular school or are homeschooled). Since I handle the beauty sections, height and weight are not that important; but good skin is. Now, I receive a ton of emails so don't feel bad if I don't reply to your email, but rest assured that I've read it
Ok, hope I've clarified some things! If you have any more questions just email me at: jennie@candymag.com

If you're in Cagayan de Oro, check out the Machahambus Adventure Park and look for Sky! He took care of us and made sure we were 100% safe. Posted in Candy | 7 Comments »
Mystery Blogger #2
Friday, August 25th, 2006Hi! It feels great being here, being able to write a blog entry after such a long time. I missed doing this. I get to write about how I feel about certain things anytime I want! Hehe. I haven't written a blog entry since last summer, since I had to go somewhere… and practically live there!
Anyway, it was a really busy week in school; we had a few long tests, and there were a few projects to be submitted. High School really demands a lot, but it's the most fun time! We didn't have debate training this week. We celebrated the Linggo ng Wika with really cool contests like singing a Harana, and decorating the school. Last sunday, I attended a time management workshop with Anthony Pangilinan, to help our careers. This workshop replaced the usual acting workshops I had every Sunday. Last Monday was a cool day too, since I attended a dance workshop in ABS-CBN, and I learned a lot! I'm learning a lot of new skills nowadays!
Today was pretty busy too. Our teacher brought the special science class to an ice cream factory! We learned a lot, and we got free ice cream! Before that though we watched a movie in class about Odysseus and his journey. It's an old movie, but good nonetheless.
Hey, I heard that the country now's a new "killing field of Asia." There have been recent extra-judicial killings.. and people wanting to contribute change, like politicians, activists, and a few journalists are being killed. This is such a shame, since this shows immense crab mentality, and inserts fear in the hearts of people who want to do something good.
I'm in the candy office, and the people here are great! They're very accommodating, and fun to talk to.
Oh yeah, I really hope you can watch me guest in Yspeak next Sunday. It's on Studio 23. We'll debate about different teen concerns, which I found really fun!
Oh yeah, the reason I haven't blogged for a long time was because I stayed in the Pinoy Big Brother house. I'm Mikee by the way. Thanks for your time! I really appreciate you reading this. I do hope you can go to my blog and read my entries there. The URL's http://meltingpen.blogspot.com. Enjoy the rest of the day! God bless!
