Me Time

Monday, July 31st, 2006

Last weekend, after consecutive Saturdays of having to go to work, I was finally able to have as much time as I wanted for myself. It was funny, because when I woke up at 9:30 AM that morning, I actually panicked. I assumed it was a weekday, which meant I was already running late (we have to be at the office by 10 AM). I was brushing my teeth when I realized, “Oh great, it’s a Saturday.” I was smiling sheepishly as I snuggled back under my fluffy pink blanket, but I had no more time to feel silly because I fell asleep again right away.

I woke up at around lunchtime, and guess what I did? I washed the dishes, cleaned the bathroom, and did my laundry. Dirty surroundings make me unbelievably cranky, and I honestly enjoy doing these chores. I even gave my stuffed penguin Pinggoy a bubble bath! After that, I took a shower, pampered myself with a much-needed hot oil treatment, and headed to the salon in our building’s ground floor to get a pedicure. I only paid 80 bucks, and it was even better than the ones that cost 150-200. ;)

I was already feeling a bit restless—and extremely hungry—by that time so I walked to the mall to grab a quick bite. I passed by the cinemas and saw that I was just in time for The Breakup. I watched it alone—a first for me—and I’m incredibly proud of myself for doing so. I loved the movie; I love every movie that makes me cry. I’ve never really liked Vince Vaughn, so the whole time I was thinking, “Jen, you deserve a better man! Walk away from that sleazeball forever!” I won’t give away the ending, but I thought it was absolutely wonderful.

Overall, the day was amazingly good for me. It gave me one very valuable lesson: that I should spend time with myself more often. Although it’s great to have meaningful relationships with other people, it’s equally important to nurture my relationship with myself.

How about you guys? What’s Me Time like for you? :)

Big hugs,
Marla

Peas out!!!

Friday, July 28th, 2006

I've been Coldplay obsessed for a couple of weeks, but now I think the Black Eyed Peas are trying to take over. Went to their concert last night with my aunt and cousins (thanks for the free tickets, Auntie Debbie!) and I was so bilib with the band's energy and great dance moves. A few hours after the concert, my Auntie Beth and I still couldn't stop talking about Fergie's fit body (she even had cuts on her tummy!) and Will's rapping skills.

The BEP sang popular hits like "Don't Phunk With My Heart" and "Let's Get Retarded" as well as new songs from Monkey Business such as "My Style" and "Gone Going." (Too bad Justin Timberlake and Jack Johnson weren't here to sing those new tracks with them.)

Here are a couple of pics I took from my cell phone cam:

BEP apl.jpg
Here's Apl "reprazenting" the Philippines! Laughing It was nice to hear him speak in Tagalog and say he was proud to be Pinoy before singing "The Apl Song" and "Bebot." While he was singing "Bebot," a surprise guest appeared with Will.i.am and danced along. I thought it was just someone from production, but apparently, it was APL'S MOM!!! Aww…

BEP fergie.jpg

Fergie was simply oozing with sex appeal! I loved her 'do, her moves, and her voice. I was totally impressed when she starting doing one-hand cartwheels while singing. IMAGINE THAT! And she didn't just do it once, she did it about four or five times going from one side of the stage to the other side TWICE. (So probably 8 to 10 cartwheels!) WOW.

BEP will.jpg

At one point, Will.i.am revealed that he had a Pinay girlfriend for 8 years. Things didn't really work out with them, so he wrote a song about it. Can you guess what it is? Two words: "Shut Up."

BEP love.jpg
Recognize the ? dominating the screen? The BEP had to sing "Where Is The Love?" or else I would have complained. Haha! Before they sang it, Apl said that because they feel so much love coming from Manila, they'll be coming back each year. (Did you know that July 26 has been hailed Black Eyed Peas Day? That's what Will.i.am said during the concert!)

BEP.jpg

At the end, I realized I didn't even take a picture of Taboo (oops!) so I tried to make up for it by taking a snapshot of the band. That's Taboo (in red), Fergie, Will, and Apl moments before they sang "My Humps." If you've seen the video, you'd be delighted to know that Fergie did her chest expanding thingy (I don't know how else to call it!) without moving her shoulders. GALING! My aunt and I vow to learn how to do it as we sing, "Make you work… make you work." HAHAHA!

I wonder which concert I'll be watching next. The Pussycat Dolls are having their concert tonight (but I'm not really a fan so I'm passing that up) and INXS are coming this August (I love JD, but I don't know if I want to spend on them).

Now officially a concert addict…

The Search Continues

Thursday, July 27th, 2006

It's 7:00 pm and the first interviews for the seventh Council of Cool are finally done! :D

We (Ines, Mimi, Marla, Macy, Me, and Shar) interviewed almost 30 girls (29 to be exact) but sadly, we can only call back half for the 2nd interview, and only 8 will make it to the council. It's really hard to make a choice! Waaah!!! Cry

Anyway, I'm a bit woozy now from interviewing the whole afternoon so I'm off to my spinning class to de-stress. For those who were interviewed, just wait for my text or e-mail to find out whether you made it or not. Don't make me kulit ha, I can't think right now so I might not reply. Hehe! You will know in due time. ;)

Love ya, Candy gals (and guys)!

Shoe Dilemma

Wednesday, July 26th, 2006

blog.jpg

Hey Candy Girls! Look at what I've found while pulling out (stylist's term for borrowing clothes) at Topshop today. Aren't they just the cutest? They're absolutely perfect for my current I-want-to-wear-flats-everyday phase. The black star-printed pair on the left also comes in fuschia (with black combo) and I love the peep toe and ribbon detail. The one on the right has a vintage feel and graffiti prints which are more subtle than the previous pair but still stylish. I haven't decided what to get so I hope you girls can help me by letting me know your pick. As you can see both pairs come in a black-and-white combo which is what I need in my shoe cabinet right now. Both shoes (available at the Rockwell store) are very comfy and making it's P1,145 tagprice a real deal for me.

While you're there, check out the limited collection flown in from the Topshop store in London exclusively available at the Rockwell store. They've got clothes, bags and shoes that are super unique and would effortlessly add some pizzazz to any girl's wardrobe.
So, let the voting begin! :)

Happy birthday, Candy blog!

Wednesday, July 26th, 2006

I was checking the archive and guess what, it's been an entire year since Candy started this blog! Here's a link to the first entry. I haven't been writing here that long, but hopefully next year, I'll still be here. :)

Taking a break from HTML (hahaha!),
Macy
