Series Stress Busters

Wednesday, May 31st, 2006

After a long tiring day at work, I make sure to de-stress by watching an episode of my favorite series. The first one I watched was of course, The OC. Aside from admiring Marissa and Summer’s great wardrobes every episode, I was also into the whole Summer-Seth romance like everyone else. At the same time, I was watching One Tree Hill and found myself addicted to the Naley (Nathan-Haley) team up. I’m really a sucker for cute love teams. For the entire Season 2, I was waiting for the episode when they’ll be back together. (Oops! spoiler for those who haven’t watched it yet.) After the season finale, I thought my whole addiction to TV shows were over. Not! My sister handed me a copy of Prison Break. I’ve seen her and my dad watch it but I didn’t think it was interesting. I thought it was just another action-packed series, but I was so wrong. After watching the first 14 episodes on DVD, I anxiously waited for my Limewire to finish downloading the rest of the episodes. Of course, Wentworth Miller, the cute guy who’s playing the lead character is reason enough to watch it (Too bad he’s more than 30 years old!) but what I love most about it (okay, maybe not most, but 2nd to Wentworth) is that the story’s so intriguing that you’ll hold your breath every second. Even my guy friends loved it and bugged me until I lent them my DVDs. I felt really bitin with the season finale because it means I’ll have to wait for a few more months before I can catch the next episode which returns next fall. Anyway, after all that Wentworth hoopla, I can add another series to my list of favorites, Grey’s Anatomy. Despite the story being all about surgeons, sick patients and surgeries, which I’m not a big fan of, the funny Sandra Oh and the relationship between Ellen Pompeo and Patrick Dempsey (told you, I’m a sucker for romantic stories!) makes me forget about work for a few minutes and just enjoy the moment/episode.

How about you? What’s your favorite TV series?

Let me know
Shar,

Sweet Nothings

Tuesday, May 30th, 2006

My beloved phone conked out on me the other day. It was strange, but the panic I felt had nothing to do with all the important numbers in my phone book. What actually made me upset was the thought of losing the precious text messages stored in my inbox. Somehow, these messages represented the things that were truly important to me: love, friendship, family. The messages were sometimes funny, sometimes inspiring, and always heartwarming. They were mostly sweet nothings (I had none of those mushy forwards)—an “I’m proud of you” from my Dad, an “I miss you” from my Mom, a wisecrack from my brother, a goodnight from my boyfriend—and perhaps, from an outsider’s point of view, they weren’t that valuable. Yet, receiving them made me feel less lonely during the times in college when I was homesick, and reading them never failed to give me strength when I was stressed.

Miraculously, though, my phone was revived yesterday. ;) And the first thing I did was to grab my trusty notebook so I could scribble all of them down. I felt so relieved!

I’m happy now, knowing that my favorite messages—bits and pieces of my life, really—are safely tucked away, ready to give me some instant sunshine when things get too tough.

On the Cover

Tuesday, May 30th, 2006

Hey Candy girls!

The June cover shoot was the first cover shoot that I went to. I was super excited to join the girls and take behind-the-scene photos and videos.  It was so much fun! We pigged out on fried siomai and yummy drinks from Dec (another first for me!). Mimi was the official tutor of Ellen on how to project - haha!

So here are a couple of pictures from the shoot (click on them for the bigger pictures):

Dec!

Here's our yummy food!

Shar looks like she's selling clothes! Hehe!

Color of the day was green!

Mimi and Ines.  I'm there somewhere in the background and I have no idea what I'm laughing about. Oh, and Angel's reading a magazine. :)

Checking out the shot

And here's a sneak peek of a new feature in candymag.com!

That should get you excited for the new candymag.com coming next month! Wink

Breakout!

Monday, May 29th, 2006

Hey Candy girls!

Ines has been buggin' me to post a message 'cause I totally forgot to do it last Friday. Blush Having a hard time thinking of what to post 'cause I've been so busy. Actually, everyone's been loaded with work since last week. We got the go signal from our publishers to do something (can't exactly say what, but we know you'll love it!) that would make the mag bigger and better! As of the moment, we're trying our best to meet our deadlines and deal with the extra stress that comes our way.

When I get stressed out, my skin breaks out really bad. Cry My mom even noticed how bad my skin was and even mentioned that she hasn't seem my skin this bad since my high school days. I'm trying my best to keep my skin clear, but it's soooo hot these days (my  skin's #1 enemy) and I've been sleeping late, so these things don't help at all. Do you have any sure-fire pimple-clearing remedies to share to me? HELP!!!

Gotta go back to work! MWAH!!!

Mimi

PS: Angel and I ate at Jay-J's Inasal (Metrowalk) last Friday and I recommend the Sisig Rice. Just thinking about it makes my tummy rumble. Yum! Tongue out

Boxing at the arcade

Monday, May 29th, 2006

Hi, Candy girls!

How was your weekend? Guess what I did yesterday!

My cousin held her son's first birthday party at TimeZone Glorietta and gave us cards so we could play all morning. It was tons of fun! I kept trying all these different games — but the best (and the most tiring!) was the boxing game where you hold these gloves (don't worry, you don't have to put them on. There's a handle so they aren't smelly, thank goodness!) as you face the screen. On the screen is the guy you're boxing. Thing is, you need to duck when he swings at you! I was so into it — reveling in each and every knockout that I didn't notice how much of a workout (albeit a short one) my thighs were getting. After I was finally down for the count (waah!), I noticed how painful my thighs were! AGH! Here we go — this is what you get from no physical activity! I had to sit down because my legs were wobbly. Yes, yes, pathetic!!! But it was so much fun that I actually want one of those things in my room! Then I'd never have to go back to the gym!!!! Yahoo! Haha! How much do those things cost anyway?

signing off because I have to rest my arms too (even typing hurts!), Ines
