It’s been a while since any of us has written because we’ve been swamped with deadlines — but here’s something to talk about: the Candy staff (and the rest of Summit) is now on a forced summer holiday . . . minus the sun, sand, surf, or anything holiday-like for that matter. Maybe I’m just trying to squeeze out all the optimism left in me because the current situation at Candy HQ is anything but desirable. Our air-conditioners are on the fritz! Yes, it’s like a sauna in here. Glamourous, much? Haha! Sorry — maybe I’m going crazy.  No matter how hard I try to focus on the pile of proofs that I have to read (these are the mag pages right before they are sent off to be printed), I can’t help wishing I wore my flip-flops today. Or maybe it’s time to head out into the mall and find me some ice cream! But I still can’t shake the image of me lounging under the REAL sun (and not just this sunless heat!), sipping a ripe mango shake. Yuuuuummmmy!!!!! Think that daydream can tide me over for the rest of the day?  I wish!!!!

 A Flippy Day! This wasn’t planned at all. Mimi, Angel, Mia, and I all came to work in flip-flops! Sigh… wish it were that day again!

My ATM balance is at an all-time low. I guess it’s because I had to make so many payments last month, plus my mind kind of went into crazy-mode and I started doing some frenzied shopping! I don’t know how some people do it—how do they pull off a new outfit every week but still manage to stay flush? I can’t seem to do it. I feel guilty every time I buy myself something new. But when I look in my closet, I get depressed over the lack of clothes I have. Or could it just be the lack of imagination in my wardrobe? I actually decided to shop smart and buy only pieces that I needed. But those pieces needed additional pieces for the look to fly!

When my sister looks into my closet, she tells me there are too many things I no longer wear. Which I grudgingly admit is true. My usual plan of attack is to take the skirt (shorts, pants, whatever) I bought last year and look for a top to go with it so I can finally wear it! But right now, a sense of panic overcomes me whenever I need to withdraw some cash to have a decent meal. I’ve resorted to bringing baon every day again (thank God Mimi and Mia also bring baon so I’m not alone!) because I refuse to give in to the panic. I need my ATM balance to grow once more! And it won’t unless I stop spending.

I actually tried keeping a money journal where I wrote down everything I bought. That lasted for about two months and I tore out all the pages in frustration. I didn’t see the point. All I saw was how much money I was losing!

So now I’m trying really hard not to spend…but guess what arrived in the mail this morning? My credit card bill! And I thought I was done spending this month! Argh!!!! When will it end?????

We had so much fun working on our August issue. I interviewed our cover girl, MTV VJ Claire Olivar. She is such a sweetheart! She answered all my questions with enthusiasm and she was so game to give us pictures from her childhood, even if some of them were pretty embarrassing (like the one with her in a facial mask!). Don’t you just love her  too?

This issue also comes with the Council of Cool’s mini-mag. Ines, Mimi, and I accompanied them to MTV where they interviewed the VJs and appeared on MTV Get Spotted. Looks like the council girls have reached celeb status. I’m really going to miss them when a new batch comes in!

Another thing that makes this issue so great is our college special! I remember how stressed I was when I was in fourth year high school and we had to fill up our college application forms and take all those entrance tests. Life would have been so much easier for me if I had Candy to read back then! It also made me reminisce about my wonderful college days and miss my best college buds. And you know what else? When I was in second year, I wrote in my journal that I wanted to work in Candy magazine (It’s true! I even showed it to Ines!)… and here I am living that dream I had in college! 

The issue is packed with loads of other great features. Believe me, it would be a crime not to check it out!
