The smell of a brand new ish
Saturday, July 30th, 2005It’s always the best feeling when a new ish comes out — I can’t describe the thrill of holding two months’ worth of work in your hands. On thursday, someone applying for the Council of Cool asked me, Mimi, and Angel what we loved about our jobs and the first thing I said was “holding a brand new issue in my hands!” It’s like holding your baby for the very first time. (Uh — but I really wouldn’t know how that feels! haha! :D) I look at each and every page, not just searching for typos (and crossing my fingers that there aren’t any) but drinking in everything — the colors, the blurbs, the photos, and yes, that sweet smell of freshly printed pages. I just love that smell! There’s nothing like it. I’ve got lots of favorite smells (vanilla, a bookstore, japanese food) but the smell of the pages of a fresh Candy issue is definitely among my top five!

August issue!!!!
Tuesday, July 26th, 2005I’m so excited!
We’re getting the management copy (the very first one to be approved before hitting the mag stands) of the August issue tomorrow. That means the issue will be out within the week! Can’t wait! Can’t wait! I really hope the printing of this month’s cover will be good. Last month’s was a disaster (as you all know!), but I’m crossing my fingers that our printing is much better this time around (they promised us!!!!).
I’ll keep you posted on how it turns out

Seatmates
Friday, July 22nd, 2005I loved my seatmates. It was so much fun finding out who my new seatmates were because I always ended up getting close to them. We’d not just pass notes or scribble on each other’s notebooks, but I distinctly remember one seatmate actually fixing my binder (he was a cute boy, too!), and another singing songs with me as our boring economics teacher droned on and on… (And I think I almost failed that class! haha! oops!)
But have you ever had the seatmate you wanted to bop on the head? The seatmate who wouldn’t stop talking to you even when the teacher was already giving you the evil eye? What about the seatmate who let YOU take the rap for her disruptive behavior? Enough to drive you insane. And it’s not like you could just say — “But it wasn’t my fault! It was hers!” How would that make you look?
I guess that’s why it’s still so important to me who my seatmates are. Nowadays, I can never sit still during a meeting (unless I’m leading it!) or a seminar, but if I’ve got a seatmate I can laugh with, poke fun at, or even just share yawns with, then it all works out. But imagine being stuck in a room filled with people who are sooo into whatever it is being discussed and you’re the only clueless one. That person’s most probably me. Trying her best to look interested, but failing completely. With no seatmates to talk my ear off and let me take the blame
Hmmm… kinda makes you want to have one…even if she does drive you insane.
haha! So here’s to seatmates!

Welcome to our world!
Friday, July 22nd, 2005So you think this is a good idea, Candy girls? Reading all about what happens behind the pages of the magazine you read every month?
Haha! Quite scary for me — now you’ll know all our secrets!!! Just kidding! I think this is such a great way of reaching out to you guys — and for you to reach out to us as well. But don’t go freakin’ when you find out what a dull, dreary existence this really is. Hahahaha! (I can almost see some of you going, "is she serious!?!") Well, there’s only one way to find out, isn’t there? Stay glued to this spot! Based on Mimi’s post, dull and dreary aren’t the words that come to mind. Unless it’s just MY job that can be described that way. Hmmm… maybe it’s time to switch positions with Mimi and Angel? Whatcha think?

Hey, Candy girls!
Friday, July 22nd, 2005WE’RE SO EXCITED TO HAVE A CANDY BLOG!!!
Now we can let you know what’s constantly happening on our side of the world. We’ll be giving you updates on who we’re meeting, what we’re shooting, and where we’re going (but we can’t give it all away until the issue comes out!
) as well as sharing lots and lots of behind-the-scenes photos/gossip!
Here are two snapshots we took while working on our July issue.
(From left to right) Our intern/COC 5 member Clara (I miss seeing her at the office!), Candy’s art director Mel, me (lifestyle ed), EIC Ines, ed assistant Angel, managing ed Mia, and beauty ed Ria.
This was taken at the office while we were interviewing teen model semi-finalists. Believe me, we had a hard time deciding who should be included in the roster of finalists this year. So many pretty girls dropped by our office that day! (Were you there?)

(From left to right) Hale’s Roll Martinez, Sheldon Gellada, Omnie Saroca, me and Angel, and Champ Lui Pio.
This second snapshot was taken at the EMI office when we accompanied the COC girls to interview Hale. They were all so nervous (I wasn’t surprised why…
Champ’s so cute!) and at the beginning, the band broke the ice by telling the girls they were new at this. It was a sweet gesture, and by the end of the interview, the COC girls had a great time… and so did the boys! (Check out the interview in our July issue. And don’t forget to grab a copy of Hale’s debut album, it’s one of my faves!)
Anyway, gotta go back to work! Let us know what you think of our new blog, and don’t forget to vote for your favorite cuties (www.candymag.com/cuties). I’m personally rooting for Chad and Champ. Hehe!
MWAH!!!
Mimi
