It's no secret that we love our makeup here at the Candy HQ. From the different forms of lippies to all the shades of brown eye shadow colors, you name it! So when we heard about the proposed "Vanity Tax," we just had to know more about the said tax law.
In a news report on GMA's "24 Oras," Ako Bicol party-list representative Rodel Batocabe proposed a new tax law, which is now popularly called as the "Vanity Tax," where all beauty products—including all makeup products—and beauty services will be taxed in exchange of the proposed tax increase on petroleum products. "Ang lipstick P300, dagdagan mo ng P30. Siguro naman ang isang taong nagli-lipstick ay di naman magiging pabigat ang P30 sa kaniya," he said. Rodel Batocabe further argues that this tax law is pro-poor. (via gmanetwork.com)
There have been a lot negative reactions behind the proposed tax law, with people using the hashtag #DontTaxMyBeauty to express their opinions on the matter.
