Yup, we're totally obsessing over this 2-minute trailer. So much so that we've decided to put some scenes together with actual lines from John Green's book.
From Chapter One
"Why are you looking at me like that?"
Augustus half smiled. "Because you're beautiful. I enjoy looking at beautiful people, and I decided a while ago not to deny myself the simpler pleasures of existence."
From Chapter One
The hour proceeded apace: Fights were recounted, battles won amid wars sure to be lost; hope was clung to; families were both celebrated and denounced; it was agreed that friends just didn't get it; tears were shed; comfort proffered. Neighter Augustus Waters nor I spoke again until Patrick said, "Augustus, perhaps you'd like to share your fears with the group."
"I fear oblivion," he said without a moment's pause.
From Chapter Seven
"You realize that trying to keep your distance from me will not lessen my affection for you," he said.
From Chapter Six
"I'm like. Like. I'm like a grenade, Mom.
I'm a grenade and at some point I'm going to blow up and I would like to minimize the casualties, okay?"
From Chapter Nine
"I'm in love with you," he said quietly.
"Augustus," I said.
"I am," he said. He was staring at me, and I could see the corners of his eyes crinkling. "I'm in love with you, and I'm not in the business of denying myself the simple pleasure of saying true things. I'm in love with you, and I know that love is just a shout into the void, and that oblivion is inevitable, and that we're all doomed and that there will come a day when all our labor has been returned to dust, and I know the sun will swallow the only earth we'll ever have, and I am in love with you.
