If you're wondering why celebrities have been pouring ice-cold water over themselves lately, it's because they're participating in the Ice Bucket Challenge. The challenge involves pouring a bucket of cold water over yourself, tagging 3 people to do it within 24 hours, and donating money to raise awareness and help fight Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis or ALS.

Yes, this is a campaign to raise awareness for ALS, a progressive disease affecting the nerve cells, the brain, and the spinal cord which causes the body to slowly lose control over muscle movement. People who are diagnosed with it have a life expectancy between 2 and 5 years, and the only medication currently available could only extend it by a few months.

Famous celebrities have posted photos and videos of them doing the challenge as part of the campaign and to invite more people to do the same. Here are 7 of the celebs who've already done the Ice Bucket Challenge:

1. Bill Gates, Microsoft Founder

2. Mark Zuckerberg, Facebook CEO

3. Ansel Elgort

4. Demi Lovato

5. Chloe Moretz

6. Liana Liberato

7. Elizabeth Banks
