17 Movies to Watch This May

From summer blockbusters like Godzilla and X-Men: Days of Future Past to YA classics like The Princess Diaries and The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants.

  1. The Fault in Our Stars. You can catch the movie almost a month earlier (the Philippine premiere is on June 5) if you're one of the lucky few who won a ticket to the Little Infinities screening tonight. Half of the Candy team will be there—let's get our ugly cry on!

  2. Godzilla (May 15). Hope they screen the Godzilla reboot at the new 4DX theater in Bonifacio High Street Central—the motion chairs and mist and wind effects were made for action movies like this.

  4. X-Men: Days of Future Past (May 22). Hugh Jackman, Michael Fassbender, James McAvoy, Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, Jennifer Lawrence, Nicholas Hoult, Ellen Page, Shawn Ashmore, Lucas Till, Anna Paquin, Halle Berry—so many big stars that even J-Law doesn’t get top billing. Still, she’s the best. Here she is, talking about fangirling over Peter Dinklage (Game of Thrones), while she was in full Mystique body paint.

  6. X-Men: First Class (on DVD). You still have about a week left to prepare for Days of Future Past, starting with this reboot a.k.a. the movie that brought J-Law and Nic Hoult together. <3

  7. X-Men (on DVD). But if you have time—and you probably do, hello sem break—start with the very first in the film franchise. Can you believe X-Men came out 14 years ago?

  10. X-Men Origins: Wolverine (on DVD). The one where Hugh Jackman, Ryan Reynolds, and will.i.am get stuck in an elevator with three other "guys on a high-protein diet."

  12. Oculus (May 14). The first big Hollywood movie of Doctor Who’s Karen Gillan looks super creepy.

  13. Maleficent (May 28). I remember an interview where Angelina Jolie said people kept telling her she was perfect for the role and she didn’t know whether it was compliment or not. It’s definitely a compliment in my book!

  14. Brick Mansions (now showing). A run-of-the-mill action movie you might want to see for the love of the late Paul Walker.

  15. The Princess Diaries (on DVD). With Princess Diaries XI hitting bookstands next year, it’s the perfect time to re-watch the first movie in the series. How cute is bb Anne Hathaway?

  16. The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement (on DVD). While I’ll never forgive the sequel for ditching Michael Moscovitz, it gets points for casting bb Chris Pine.

  17. The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants (on DVD). Sisterhood Everlasting, the fifth and final novel in the series, is going to become a movie, so of course you have to check in on the girls.
